Epic Games confirmed last week that the latest update to the popular Unreal Engine development suite, 4.8, would feature integrated support for the SteamVR platform. That latest edition of the engine is available to download now and is free to use under the new terms established by Epic Games back in March.
Summer showcase for upcoming VR games!
It's wonderful to see studios investing in virtual reality concepts. Maestro, Coaster Mania, Dixotomia, and Bounce Arcade all seem quite intriguing. Miracle Pool would be my top pick.
It seems this confirms that the N4G community's interest in VR gaming only matters when it's about PSVR2, as I appear to be the only one who watched the entire presentation dedicated to VR gaming.
Bit & Quantum: Save the Earth is a VR puzzle-solving game where players will help repair a space station to aid a friend. Bit & Quantum: Save the Earth is coming to PC (SteamVR).
Kid Pilot is a flight adventure game where you soar through amazing worlds just by moving your hand. Explore beautiful environments, earn badges, discover secrets, overcome challenging boss fights, and become a Top Pilot. Kid Pilot is available now for Meta Quest and PC (Steam VR).
Cool, i was just playing around with UE4 just last night.
Are we that close to UE5??
I would love to mess around with UE4, but sadly my pc can't handle it. What kind of pc would I have to invest in to be able to handle it?
A quick shortcut tip. Makehuman and Daz3D are both character creation studios that are free To download, and they can export to UE4. According to their EULA, they allow you to make characters using their software in games and sell them residual free. You however cannot sell individual characters, or them as DLC.
Makehuman exports characters as low as 35,000 polygons up to 80k. characters can be exported with bones, no animations. Daz 3D has a character creation studio+ animation studio and can export them to UE4. Daz3D exports models no lower than 100k. To export them lower you need to purchase the game developer version.
It's important to read up on all the EULAs of all software.
