Phil Spencer confirms Microsoft will hold an Xbox conference at Gamescom 2015

Sony will skip Gamescom 2015 in favor of Paris Games Week, in a tweet to a fan Phil Spencer confirms that Microsoft will hold an Xbox Conference in Köln as usual.

Microsoft knows what important E3 and Gamescom just more prove E3 will be best yet for them.

poppinslops3705d ago

Seems they've got a lot of stuff to show off... Personally, I want to see a compilation of the games that are using DX12, one after another, with detailed narration of how it's features are being used.

Gamescom seems the more appropriate venue for such tech-talk, whereas E3 should just be like last year - games, games and more games... with a dash of Hololens.

TheCommentator3705d ago

MS has way too much to both announce and go into detail about everything just at E3. I suspect that only the big guns get center stage at E3 and the rest get more detail at Gamescom.

christocolus3705d ago (Edited 3705d ago )

I love these events and i'm glad MS will be having a conference at E3 and Gamescom. I can't wait to see Scalebound,Rare's game, TR, Halo 5 sp and all the mega announcements. Their focus on 1st party is a major step in the right direction.

beans3705d ago

Yeah I'm excited too. MS simply has so much going in the right direction.

deadpoolio3163705d ago

Oh good lord, I wish they would demo the Xbox one games using DX12 so the Xbots and MisterX cult memebers would finally shut the hell up about it.....

DX12 is NOT going to have a major impact on Xbox one games..PERIOD, DX12 will be fantastic for PC games and only PC games. For Xbox the difference will be slight if much at all

DJStotty3704d ago

Listen to deadpoolio about DX12. He knows what he is talking about since he designed it /s

Enlighten me deadpoolio what definitive prove have you that DX12 will not improve any game on the xbox one???

christocolus3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

@Deadpolio

It was fun reading your comment. now go away.

@DjStotty

Lmao.

gangsta_red3704d ago

@Deadpolio

Is simply stating from a Phil quote that DX12 will not have an immediate impact on Xbox One...I mean didn't anyone else read Phil's quote...

Ooops!!! Wrong quote...

It's because they know both E3 and Gamescom are important and because history has shown that MS loves to put all their eggs in one basket. All announcements in the summer, and all games during the holiday season.

Automatic793705d ago Show
poppinslops3705d ago

Yeah, 'Summer Lesson' (or whatever that sex-offender sim was called) was a real 'high point' for gaming... and for society, in-general.

Whilst I doubt the sarcastic '/S' is necessary, I feel obliged to use it here.

TGS... Bah!

StarLord_Who3704d ago

Yeah, all the japanese card games where you masturbate the women to powering up?

The dating simulators, the rapelay style games and then the worst offenders of them all, the RPGs!

Eonjay3705d ago

They skipped a GamesCom conference in 2013. Less than two years ago.

RiseofScorpio3705d ago

There was still an unfilmed conference with Phil Spencer and Harrison. I believe they announced Fable Legends at it.

VenomUK3705d ago (Edited 3705d ago )

@Walugi_isunderrated.

It wasn't a press conference as such. It was an 'intimate' roundtable for a select group of writers from the major websites. It wasn't live because this was back when Microsoft were trying to control their 'message' after the negative reaction to the XBO reveal. However it was filmed and after it was edited it was posted on YouTube,

EDIT: Here is the link! https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Pogmathoin3705d ago

Would be nice if there are no leaks, E3 and others used to blow you away with reveals, now its all out there before the events.

christocolus3705d ago

Agreed. Leaks ruin the whole surprise but Phil and the team have done a much better job this year keeping their plans secret. Hope the announcements are exciting though.

lelo2play3705d ago (Edited 3705d ago )

Smart move by Microsoft. They need all the help they can get in Europe. MS should keep a couple of surprise exclusives for Gamescom to create some buzz...

XanderZane3705d ago

Well, with so much stuff to show, I'm sure they couldn't fit it all in the 2hrs show at the E3. So they have to carry some of the game announcements over to Gamescom. Unlike Sony, Microsoft isn't skipping anything this year. Well maybe they will skip TGS since Japan gamers don't seem to want their great games. I can't wait for both of these shows this year. It's going to be a lot of fun.

wegetsignalx3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Wrong, Sony is not skipping anything this year. E3 in June, TGS in Sept, Paris in Oct, and then PSX in Dec.

Sony will still be on the Gamescom show floor, they are just moving the conference to Paris in October.

DigitalRaptor3705d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

@ KNWS

They know what's important after having being told numerous times what is important, so that's good. I'd say the company that has the most current games, the most upcoming games, the most diversity in their lineup, and is attending and/or hosting the most gaming events this year knows just a bit more about what is important.
------

@ MichaelLito79

You have said that countless times because as an Xbox fan that is what you blindly believe. Meanwhile, facts dictate that PS4 still has more games, and far more studios lined up to make announcements than MS does. That goes for both first and third party. Pile up everything Sony has against everything MS has and the pile is taller, so them having "not much to show" is ironic. Almost all of Sony's first and second party developers are ready to show their PS4 games and third party support from Japanese devs and indies is unparalleled.
------

@ MichaelLito79 (continued)

Say what you want about my bubble count. It's seems not to help you disprove the valid points I made in response to yours. I've been bagging on Microsoft for years when I had 6 bubbles (for years), that went down to 4, down to 2, back up to 5, down to 3 and now down to one. It was not exactly like that, but close.

Why one bubble now? It's nothing to do with Xbox One, because there's plenty of people on here who do the same as I have and still have 3, 4, 5 or 6 bubbles and won't go down to one. I've also heard that this is a Sony fanboy website, so shouldn't the Sony fanboys have the most bubbles? Doesn't seem to be that way. No, I have one bubble because the mods decided in a relatively short space of time that calling out people as liars, proving them wrong with lists of facts, and calling people trolls where they were clearly trolling in a truthful and honest manner deserved restrictions, many times in a row.

They decided that me posting a list of review scores on a Bloodborne review article only minutes after all the reviews came flooding in was "Spam", when in normal circumstances, that would receive a "helpful" bubble. I saw Gangsa_red post almost the exact same list (copied and pasted) and it wasn't voted down. Strange double standards.

Back on point, every single time you have replied to me as you are now, the point I was originally making went completely over your head, and today is no different.

I didn't say the XB1 didn't have diversity. I didn't say it didn't have games. I didn't say that it doesn't have a good lineup. This was only ever about exposing people who have been telling fibs or misinforming others on purpose.

I said that PS4 still has the most diversity. Key word being "most".

I said that PS4 still has more games than XB1 (key word being "more") and Sony still has more to announce from more studios within their first-party and outside of it. The game announcements on PS4 have always, always outnumbered the game announcements on the XB1.

I said PS4 still has the higher rated games, and that list you posted has several poor games on it.

These are things that you cannot conveniently sidestep just because you have a penchant for Xbox over PlayStation. I won't keep my bias to myself when you purposefully and blatantly misinformed people about Sony's lineup.

Automatic793705d ago (Edited 3705d ago )

@DigitalRaptor

I remember the days you had a ton of bubbles, do you want to guess why your down to one bubble because you use to run your agenda knocking on Xbox One.

This Digital Raptor is a diverse portfolio

DeadRising 3
Ryse
KillerInstinct
Forza 5
Max and the Cursed brotherhood
Lococycle
Crimson Dragon
Halo Spartan Assault
Zoo Tycoon
PowerstarGolf
Titanfall
Kinect Sports Rivals
Dance Central Spotlight
Dark Dreams Don't Die D4
Disney Fantasia
Project Spark
Kalimba
Sunset Overdrive
Halo MCC
Forza Horizon
Idarb
ScreamRide
Ori and the Blind Forest
Dungeons and Dragon Never winter
State of Decay

We are only reaching the second year and Xbox has provided an excellent lineup. You and a few on this website always try to push an agenda by stating Xbox one has no games meanwhile its people like you who knocked 360 for not having diversity. Now that Xbox One has that, plus more, you find something else to complain about. Please keep your bias to yourself. The future looks even better.

jznrpg3704d ago

@MichaelLito a lot of those games aren't good. Imo

gangsta_red3704d ago

The Xbox One has the most divers line up of games. That's just logic and facts. And who is to say that the "pile" Sony has stacked up also doesn't include games that are poor or most gamers aren't interested in.

You just can't pick and choose your points for MS but then disregard those same points for Sony.

See Digital, we can all share our own opinion of our console of choice and then follow it up with words like "logic" and "fact".

You're on one bubble because you yourself were making comments that were negative as well as name calling and did not present "logic" or "facts" as you always like to say, you blame others for lying but how about the times you were also caught in your own lies and being extremely hypocritical.

And I was also down voted Digital, since you like to bring my name up.

wegetsignalx3696d ago

@gangsta_red

This is wrong. PS4 has more games + more highly rated games at the same time, and a wider variety of game genres (more diverse). This is easy to prove looking at metacritic or listwar.

E3 2015 will certainly be Microsoft's best. I mean, there is no other alternative. The slide of the XboxOne has to stop and it starts at E3. They hit it out of the ball park or go home. I hope they bring their A++++++ game!

NeoGamer2323705d ago

What slide?

X1 is selling as good or better than X360 at the same time in the life cycle.

What we are seeing is an increase in PS4 over PS3 in a dramatic way. And mostly at the expense of Nintendo.

X1 is doing good, PS4 is doing fabulous, Wii U is a failure from sales perspectives.

zeuanimals3705d ago (Edited 3705d ago )

The Xbox One is only doing slightly better than the 360 but it is selling less every month. The huge 3 million launch just catapulted it ahead and I wouldn't be surprised if it's sales start dipping behind the 360 in the same time span.

The 360 had the virtue of not being completely dead in the EU. It launched first and it was quite popular in Germany, France, and it was especially popular in the UK. The Xbox One does not hold the same position. It's doing okay in the UK though, but everywhere else, it's far behind what the 360 did.

When the 360 started dipping in sales, Kinect gave it a bit of a resurgence. MS needs something like Kinect if they want to really not fall behind the 360. Something like Hololens but apparently it won't be nearly as cheap as Kinect was.

Papafynn3705d ago

Slide 1: Decoupling Kinect & still not selling.
Slide 2: Price reduction & still being outsold

Possible Slide 3? If E3 doesn't rally their core audience. They can't afford to mess E3 up. I really really hope they bring it!

aceitman3705d ago (Edited 3705d ago )

well ms skipped gamescom and Tokyo game show a couple years back now sony is doing it but sony is holding a different one in paris in October , the thing I didn't like was there so back to back , but this year sony is stretching it .here is the link to ms skipping gamescom
http://www.engadget.com/201...
disagree all u want I put proof that ms skipped gamescom how about u look at the link im not saying nothings wrong with it but some people think sony is the only one to skip it.

SoapShoes3705d ago

Microsoft did skip GamesCom and when they came back it was essentially a recap of E3 with one extra announcement. Both will have plenty this year, Sony just wants to spread it out.

aceitman3705d ago

exactly gamescom had very few big announcements from sony and ms because e3 was so close it basically was a recap of e3 with a couple of different game announcements not much . thanks soap.

Chevalier3705d ago

Plus more events for Sony to be at. Over 6 1/2 months.
E3 June
Gamescom August
TGS September
Paris Game show October
VGX November
PS Experience December.

aceitman3705d ago

no matter whats said the xbox fanboys will think sony has nothing to show because they choose to have it at Paris , so does that mean ms has nothing to show because there not holding a press conference at paris . no it doesn't, sony has done well with them spreading the news for games no matter what people say. sony has been doing very well and people will take anything they can and turn it into bad news even though its not. all I have to say is wait till e3 and see

You got downvotes by pathetic gamers for feeling hopeful about good games coming out next year. Imagine how small your brain must be to downvote someone excited for future gaming joy? It is pretty neat to see people's world view blow up in front of them as they realize Microsoft has put themselves in a driver's seat that Sony hasn't been able to touch all generation.... What's even more pathetic is the same people downvoting you are the same people wishlisting Microsoft games on their ps5s 😂

and then all the good games that's been cooking
Pragmata, Sands of Time, Saros, Gears E-Day, 007 First Light, Blood of Dawnwalker,
Mortal Shell II, Onimusha, Marvel1943: Rise of Hydra
current-gen only Infinity Ward's CoD, Duskbloods
+ My guess: Wolverine, Exodus, Mudang, Crimson Desert, Clockwork etc ...
~ seems like it might get too stacked

So the new excuse is they don't count because it's from the ABK now huh. I guess all those 3rd party games count even less because they don't own them. According to your always crappy logic.

Flight simulator
Hell Blade 2
Minecraft update
Gears of war reloaded
Indian Jones:expansion
Gears E day
Clockwork revolution
Fable
Doom the dark ages
The outer worlds 2
Grounded 2
Call of duty

OtterX15d ago

How many of those titles were just buyouts of companies that were going about making their games anyways? *Throws cash - "Oh look what we made!"

dveio15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

This list, that's been posted again, and again, and again in every single topic like this, contains almost nothing, literally almost nothing from Microsoft's own creational thoughtprocess.

It's a bunch of former 3rd party IPs.

Now even slowly returning to Playstation in some cases like Indiana, Hellblade, probably Starfield soon too, after they were made exclusively to Xbox on purpose.

Due to Microsoft's lack for own IP material except Halo & Forza. Which, the lack of, was the sole reason for all of it to happen in the first place anyway. Please don't pretend it wasn't.

And just look at all the games that come from Obsidian alone.

You really think Obsidian wasn't already working on Avowed and South of Midnight even without Microsoft buying Zenimax?

Microsoft delivered nothing but cheques.

OtterX15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

@dveio THIS. Lol, this dude thinks Call of Duty wouldn't exist without Microsoft! smh 😂

neutralgamer199215d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Common narrative I see often — that Microsoft shouldn’t get credit for the games its studios release because they “just bought them.” But this viewpoint ignores key context and sets a double standard that other platform holders aren’t held to

No one is saying these games wouldn't exist at all without Microsoft. But let’s not pretend that having a trillion-dollar company backing a studio doesn’t make a massive difference. Obsidian never had AAA funding before the Xbox acquisition. Pillars of Eternity was crowdfunded, and their resources were always stretched thin. Now they’re working on Avowed, with proper support behind it.

Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was made by around 20 people, using borrowed equipment and doing mocap in a boardroom. It was a passion project held together by tape and willpower. Today, Hellblade II exists because they were given resources, time, and freedom — something many developers don’t get unless they’re owned by a company that believes in their vision.

ZeniMax (Bethesda’s parent company) was in real financial trouble before the Microsoft acquisition. Reports and insider accounts have pointed out how much they needed a cash infusion. And while some people want to write off Xbox’s ownership of Bethesda titles, they forget the alternative could have meant layoffs or even closures.

The same goes for Activision Blizzard. Would you really prefer the company to stay under Bobby Kotick, after all the documented workplace misconduct and toxic leadership issues? Say what you want about Microsoft, but their acquisition brought accountability and change to a company that desperately needed it.

At the same time, Xbox gets hated on for doing what every major company does. Sony bought Housemarque, Bluepoint, Insomniac — but no one says Spider-Man 2 “doesn’t count” because of that. Why does Xbox get treated differently for acquiring struggling or undervalued developers and giving them a chance to thrive?

And the idea that Xbox locks games away is outdated. They're pushing cross-platform releases, cloud gaming, Game Pass, and backward compatibility more than any other platform holder. They're not forcing all studios into live service. If anything, their upcoming lineup is less GAAS-heavy and more focused on narrative and creativity — Avowed, South of Midnight, Clockwork Revolution, Fable, Perfect Dark, Towerborne, and others show real variety.

Whether people like it or not, Xbox is now the biggest publisher in the industry and owns the most gaming IPs. But what matters more is how they treat their studios. Most of these teams were previously stuck making AA games with limited scope — now they’re getting the tools and support to aim higher.

So when people say “Microsoft didn’t make those games,” they’re missing the point. It’s not about who started the studio — it’s about who enabled them to do their best work. You don’t have to love Xbox to admit they’ve helped a lot of developers and are taking a player-first approach.

Instead of writing off everything they do, maybe try recognizing the good they’re doing for both devs and gamers. At the end of the day, we should want more studios to succeed — no matter who owns them

BeHunted15d ago

I'm surprised Clockwork Revolution (BioShock meets Dishonored) isn't getting more media attention. The game looks interesting and reminds me of the old RPG games.

anast15d ago

The only good game on that list is Flight sim. The rest are either average or will be average. It's not a good look for MS.

TheEroica15d ago

My god.... Look how many comments are upset about microsoft's successes... 😂 This may be my new favorite thread. Not one gamer saying thanks for all the goodness coming their way, just bitter anger and downvoting the very games they themselves will purchase throughout 2026.... Sony really worked you guys over this generation.... Condolences.

DivineHand12515d ago

@neutralgamer1992 You said what needed to be said.

I have heard for years from older gamers that fanboys are the biggest issue with any fanbase. They will defend or gloss over negative news as long as the correct logo is on the box and they bash the competing platform no matter how much good they are trying to bring.

Right now their advocacy for PlayStation is elevating that platform so high that Sony no longer believes they need to do anything to satisfy their loyal fanbase like they did in the PS4 days.

I just hope most of them will eventually start advocating for themselves and encourage others to do the same. No one should blindly support one platform because these companies do not care about anything other than profit.

neutralgamer199215d ago

Hunted

And first proper game done by the studio with proper AAA budget and saying it will be released when ready

Anast

I believe we went through this before that you are objectively wrong. Meta critic, user reviews, game sales. In Playstation top 10 best selling games were 5 from Microsoft studios

Otter

No this dude is saying so many other studios wouldn't be thriving without MS money and people would be getting abused physically and mentally with Bobby kotick and his side kicks

Also maybe look up how the original founder of Bethesda and zenimax was kicked out of his own company by his best friend lawyer. So that was always a shady place and had been struggling financially before MS paid a premium of almost 7 billion

Eroica

I use to be a die hard Playstation fan and now I only have a Pc. I see how these fans are so toxic. They just can't handle any positive news regarding Xbox. When the best selling games on playstation are Xbox titles. Look at Forza horizon being best seller and that's years old game by MS. I guess ms don't deserve credit for that success too since they are the only company in gaming making acquisitions

Forget the fact Sony paid 3.6 billion for bungie and MS 6.9 for zenimax. Which investment has turned out better

Destiny and marathon with a lot of controversy

While zenimax output is nothing short of amazing compared to what bungie has released

crazyCoconuts15d ago

Yeah it's tricky. "Xbox" has morphed to mean different things to different people.
Console, now Windows, GamePass, and the cross platform games. There's a mix of attitudes towards all those things individually, and maybe an overarching attitude towards MS. But can't argue that the game companies MS recently bought continue to flourish, and GamePass PC has been a great value over the last year.

Phil Spencer 'Very Excited' About Xbox Handheld Plans For 2025

With ASUS seemingly teasing an Xbox handheld last week, there's been a lot of talk about the device in the days ever since, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer has also teased something to do with handhelds happening in 2025

purexbox.com
neutralgamer199281d ago

I really hope this isn't a windows based device even though coming from MS that's highly unlikely. SteamDeck is much much easier to use and offers a much better user experience than any other handheld device because it's all based on steam app. The Xbox handheld should be based on that because a Windows device with a 7-8 inch screen makes it's difficult to navigate

darthv7281d ago

Coming from Asus... its going to be an Xbox branded ROG Ally.

neutralgamer199281d ago

That's fine but hopefully it will be a Xbox app based instead of windows

VenomUK80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

When the casual market learn that there’s going to be an Xbox branded Asus handheld they will cancel their Nintendo Switch 2 preorders and get the Asus. No it won’t have exclusive games like Super Mario or Zelda or Metroid or Pilot Wings or Mario Kart or Animal Crossing or Donkey Kong or Pokémon or Super Smash Bros - but who cares as it will have access to the entire library of the Steam Store running on Windows. It will also have access to Game Pass with all the modern day classics like Avowed, Hellblade II and Grounded and Pentiment.

I think we all have to acknowledge that after all the criticism of Switch 2 on ResetEra it’s evidence that it will fail to sell and the Asus will outsell it. Dreamcast pushed Sega out of hardware, we all have to accept that the perfect storm of Switch 2 pricing, an Xbox-branded Asus and Phil Spencer and Aaron Greenberg’s persuasive promotion will likely kill off Switch 2 within a month. AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

FinalFantasyFanatic80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

@VenomUK,
I don't think that even has a remote chance of happening, Nintendo has so much brand loyalty, even with the backlash on their not so great pricing, I still think it's going to sell, Xbox doesn't have as much brand loyalty. Plus, if it's just Xbox branded ROG Ally or something similar, why not just choose a ROG ally or Steam Deck? They can both do everything that an Xbox branded handheld can. If Xbox is going to compete in the world of windows based handhelds, it has so much competition, it's going to struggle.

You're way too optimistic about the Xbox handheld and the demise of the Switch 2, I'm going to predict the opposite and say the Switch 2 will demolish the Xbox handheld in terms of sales/popularity.

S2Killinit80d ago

@VenomUK
Not sure if sarcasm or satire.

VenomUK80d ago

@S2Killinit Satire. I’m not going to hate on people for being excited for a new console. But what is happening in the Xbox community is something wicked, content creators are hyping up the Asus to their audience about how great this thing is, and how it will be more powerful than the Switch 2 and the Steam Store outweighs any advantage the Switch 2 has with its library of games. I don’t believe they believe it but they are grifting. By all means look forward to it but don’t sell it as a Switch 2 PS5 killer.

Steam Os is amazing. By far the best. Can’t imagine MS having an OS that can top it (CERTAINLY not windows)

crazyCoconuts81d ago

Well they're gonna try. They've already stated they've been working on it.

FinalFantasyFanatic80d ago

Windows as is, isn't a great experience for a handheld, they really need to make a dedicated handheld OS, unfortunately they've always been hellbent on making a single product for both PC/touch screen use.

I really can't imagine them making something that stands up to Steam OS, it just works so well.

RaidenBlack80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

This is not their in-house made Xbox handheld for next-gen, which is slated for release in 2027 alongside with the next Xbox console, which might run a version of their usual Xbox-ified OS optimized for the handheld.
This is just a brand collab to produce an Xbox branded updated Asus RoG Ally (Project Kennan), which as usual ships with Windows. Think of it as the 5th main competitor in handheld PC market, after Deck, Legion Go, Ally and MSi Claw (I know others exist, but these are the popular ones).

And RoG Ally didn't get an update this year like the Legion Go, so this Xbox-Asus one might be that?
Anyways, even with 2025 chip upgrade, the Legion Go underperforms compared to 2023 Ally and 2024 Ally X.

crazyCoconuts81d ago

It can't be anything but Windows if it has the Xbox brand on it. Outside of the politics (which would be a showstopper), SteamOS/Linux can't run GamePass natively due to the crazy protections implemented by the Windows Store.

neutralgamer199281d ago

I am not asking the Xbox handheld to run steam, I just wanted a dedicated Xbox app on the handheld that handles everything from playing games, downloading games, gamepass and most importantly all updates are done from that app. Just a better overall user experience

Having to download multiple different things on a Windows based device becomes really a chore in a smaller screen.

crazyCoconuts81d ago

Having the windows handheld auto launch the existing Xbox Windows app will accomplish everything you mentioned, and I'm sure that's what this will be.
Fact is that MS will need to add a lot into that app to incorporate all the system level controls Steam incorporated into their handheld UI.

OmegaSoldati80d ago

Steam Deck for the win! Switch too.

Profchaos80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

It'll be windows all leaks indicate this is a windows based device with a Xbox skin it will integrate other storefronts because at its core it's windows.

@venom there's is no chance that parents will be buying their kids a rog ally setting up steam and other storefronts over a Nintendo switch 2 at Christmas.

That's a mass amount of hopium there.

Portable PC's in total have barely cracked six million sold the switch 2 will continue to dominate the casual crowd all known about it and news of a switch successor has already started spreading in mainstream media

neutralgamer199280d ago

I think switch 2 will do well but dominate I think we need to wait and see. The prices of the console and games is much more than switch so don't expect parents in this inflation time to spend $600 on 2 games and a console. Since it's Nintendo it should sell but I think we are underpaying the importance of the inflated market

Every inch of this things is going to be a subservice.

Aloymetal81d ago

And an even bigger flop in the making, it's like they're just throwing crap at the wall and see what sticks or rather find another ''clever'' way to keep squeezing more money from the already miniscule and gullible fanbase. Smfh.

Reaper22_80d ago

Squeezing money. Isn't that what sony is doing with tbe ps5pro. And what about all those remakes and locking some ps4 games to a subscription.

ABizzel180d ago

At first I thought this was a huge mistake on MS part. But after thinking about this more and more, while I still don’t think it’s going to do anything beyond 10 - 20 million in sales, I think that’s exactly what MS and ASUS are expecting and both are okay with.

I assume this is more of Asus saying to MS, look we have ten/twenty million of these handheld PCs already in production and we’ve only been able to sell a couple millions, partner with us and let’s brand them as Xbox handhelds ASUS will do all the heavy lifting so we don’t take a loss on all these, and all MS has to do is market the platform and put your logo, the new Xbox OS/app you’ve been working on, and together we’ll helps each other out and push more GamePass subscriptions.

That make complete logical sense as to why this came about, because otherwise….. So technically it would be a win:win for both companies, or a win for MS and a reduction of loss of ASUS, even if they only sell 10m - 20m units.

As for the handheld itself honestly, it should be solid and most likely based on the Rog Ally 7, but hopefully with the Rog Ally X case as that has a much better port and I/O layout. Plus if the Xbox OS is wayyyyyyy lighter than Windows then it should be a a good piece of tech getting more performance than the Ally 7 Windows version for around $499.

But that’s where the next problem comes into play…..Price. It’s Switch 2 all over again. The slight different is outside of the potential of DLSS, this should be a slightly more powerful handheld, especially if they create their own dock, but that dock will likely be sold separately meaning now we’re looking at $550 or more, for what will essentially be a docked Xbox Series S and a slightly more powerful SteamDeck / Switch 2 in handheld mode.

peppeaccardo81d ago

The Irrelevant-Held will be able to connect to the XFLOP Series X

anast80d ago

ha! It might last longer than the Stadia.

Profchaos80d ago

Basically what windows os turning into now every few weeks logging on I'm greeted with a hey how about some office 365 or your gamepass lapsed how about renewing and decline is in little blue writing while subscribe is a huge button

anast80d ago

This and I also get a pop up to subscribe to Xbox GamePass.

PanicMechanic81d ago

So smart of you caveman Phil sphincter. Did you get the memo on what Nintendo is releasing this year?

Kyizen81d ago

I dont trust Microsoft to build an OS for this looking at the Windows phone so I think this will be just Windows with a Steam like Big Picture mode locked in the UI to launch games.

Rockstar81d ago

This is good advice from Reaper here. I trust your advice and you've got my word...I wont buy it.

Thanks Reaper!

YourMommySpoils81d ago

Then don't complain about facts.

PanicMechanic80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

So in other words, it’s just another ROG Ally. I think MS has a winner🤣🤣

FinalFantasyFanatic80d ago

I remember when my sister bought a Windows phone, that thing was missing so many basic features, she didn't even own the phone for 3 months before getting frustrated and swapping it out.

Profchaos80d ago

I'll be honest I had a older relative that loved the windows phone cause it had a huge dial, contacts and camera button that was all it got used for.

Oh and it was bright green so easy to find

Moral of the story one person's trash is another's treasure

Reaper22_80d ago

Windows phones weren't the best but I also remember sonys phones didn't fare too well either. As a matter of fact they're newest ones aren't doing so great either. Not even in Japan. That says alot.

Profchaos80d ago

@reaper22 honestly Shane about the Sony phones to I brought the Xperia 3 when they announced remote play for it and it was one of the best ones I have had the battery lasted a few days the camera was some obscene 50mp but the physical design lagged behind Samsung and I think that was a huge reason it failed

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Reassures Xbox Gamers Their Gaming Library Isn't Going Anywhere

Xbox's CEO Phil Spencer assures that, even though they are expanding to other platforms, Xbox gamer's libraries aren't going anywhere.

jznrpg130d ago

Phil, the words of a guy who only speaks the truth.

If I was an Xbox owner I wouldn’t feel comfortable with what he just said

crazyCoconuts129d ago

Reading his quote sounds like word salad. I'm not sure he said anything really.

darthv72129d ago

I'd rather him say more of our library will be made available now. It sucks to have so many 360 era games still stuck in limbo, especially Activision ones now that they are buddy buddy.

VenomUK129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

Sarah Bond had committed to backwards compatibility, so interpreting Phil Spencer’s quote, old Xbox games will always be playable with a PS3 on PSN like cloud solution, and on new hardware if a new Xbox console is ever released.

Scissorman130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

why does this even need to be reassured? it really goes to show you how nervous there fanbase is.

Eonjay130d ago

Right. I was thinking the same thing. This shouldn't be some sort of 'benefit' for Xbox gamers as MS goes to Sony and Nintendo... This should just be implied. No matter where the games go in the future should have any impact on the purchased games libraries of current Xbox consumers.

pwnmaster3000130d ago

Yup no matter how much they say they don’t care, the fanbase care lol

Profchaos130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

What's left of them one the last 12 months I've seen Xbox consoles flooding second hand marketplaces and going for half of their RRP

In addition this interview the whole panel was clearly not believing the viewpoint but not wanting to offend their guest

LabRat129d ago

When (or "if") Xbox goes out of hardware those who don't play on Cloud or prefer hardware...where will they play their library?

PhillyDonJawn128d ago

Not the question. If you already gave the hardware and games. Why would it disappear?

Chocoburger130d ago

Ah yes, Phillip, the pinnacle of honesty, and he never changes his mind. We can all take his word for it without hesitation. 🤥

Profchaos130d ago

He did but in the follow up sentence he talked about charging pricing because they are a business so who knows maybe the next gen box has a fee to use their emulator service I imagine wine ports to a PC architecture
