Hmm,never had an issue with choppiness. I am using a 1TB passport HD, however it does not have an external power source, instead I use a Y cable adaptor.

Nintendo recommends a Hard Drive with an external power source, but I have had Zero issues with My Passport HD, and I have about 200 MGs of games on it. Also its the size of a wallet, and I have no bulky power source.

This trick works

I thought I would save money by sticking an old hard drive in a cheap, powered case. What a mistake that was. The damn thing would disconnect even after I tried this trick, would basically disconnect EVERY time I used it.

I switched over to one of Nintendo's recommended drives, and have had zero problems with it so far

I use a WD 320gb 7200 rpm drive with 8mb cache in a generic external case with its own power supply. Not had any problems yet. And hopefully I wont now that I have mentioned it.

Is this a problem with bus powered drive or both self powered and bus powered?

I got my Wii U not too long. Would just plugging an external HDD into the USB port work or do I have to open the Wii U and attach it? Cant view the site on my phone.

You just plug it into the USB ports, depending on the hard drive you're using. Nintendo recommends using a HDD that has an external power supply. However, i have had no problems what so ever with using an external USB HDD ( http://goo.gl/pA3NOH) with a USB-Y Cable like this: http://goo.gl/j7V3NO - Little end goes in HDD and the 2 USB's go into the back ports of my WiiU.
It needs both USB's plugged in as one is for carrying data and the other is for supplying the power to the HDD.

Hope that helps.

@DiscoKid: To add to Dubman helpful comment. I think you also need to go into the system file and format the external hard drive so that the Wii U can register it. Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I had to do this for my Wii U. Hope this helped.

Dubaman3665d ago

You are correct mate. I should have mentioned that it must be formatted to WiiU's File System. I do believe you can set a partition however if you still need to use the HDD on a PC or something akin.

Will do! Thanks so much!

Reason number 1 why I haven’t played yet:
Cannot commit the time. :/

The nice thing about X is you have a Follow Ball. If you haven't played for a few days it will help you jump right back in! Fantastic game! You should at least have 5 initial hours over 2 days or so to invest. I also suggest grinding to at least level 14 before chapter 3.

It's nice that definitive edition makes level grinding easier. Quite a bit quicker than the original release.

I bought it thinking it was like the trilogy and expansion on Switch. I played it for 15 or so hours and stopped. Couldn't get into it, the gameplay was not like the previous ones, it was not what I expected.😕

I bought it on the Wii U years ago and couldn’t get into it too 🙁

I feel ya, sucks cause I wanted to like it, I tried.

Greatest RPG ever except end game makes it impossible to complete for anyone who focused on mech battles. Do not focus on mechs or you will be disappointed
