IGN: E3 '08: King of Clubs Mini-Golf Hands-On

King of Clubs Mini-Golf is one of the seemingly endless games that play in the same space that many Wii developers have found irresistible: Wiini-golf. The mix of fun, family-friendly, semi-sport content combined with the easy, obvious functionality of the Wiimote as a golf club has resulted in a glut of Wii mini-golf games.

Making them stand out is the difficulty, of course, which led Oxygen Games (of "My Secret Diary" and "My Dress-Up" fame) to develop its own niche with King of Clubs Mini-Golf; white trash mini-golf. The game's protagonist is mini-golf course owner Bubba, whose character is a late-model Elvis impersonator.

GamerDad Reviews: King of Clubs

GamerDad writes: "Standard golf can only be jazzed up so far, but by its very nature, miniature golf is just crying out for enhancement and improvement. In King of Clubs, gamers play on over a dozen different mini golf courses based around six different themes such as prehistoric, medieval, or Egyptian. In addition to standard miniature golf obstacles and hazards, players can use clubs and golf balls with special abilities to make their way around the course. With tournament, career, fast play, and even a speed version of the game, King of Clubs provides a decent option for some fun golf-related Wii entertainment."

Game Boyz Review: King of Clubs

Game Boyz Writes:

"While King of Clubs' visuals are colorful, the mini-golf courses and games environments lack any real detail or sophistication. Granted I did not expect EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA quality, however I was expecting the environments and characters to look a little sharper and cleaner. I also noticed some jaggies and some of the visuals simply looked dated. For instance, the surrounding trees look dreadful and characters look grainy. On the plus side though some of the water and lighting effects are decent. The games menus are also easy to read and use which will certainly appeal to your younger gamer.

While the overall presentation could have been improved, the speed of the game is good. The loading times however can take some time but once you get into a game there is no noticeable slow down. At the end of the day there is nothing visually innovative with King of Clubs visually speaking."
