The world of X-Men is an excellent backdrop for storytelling, especially in games. It has a huge array of memorable heroes and villains, a winning combination of political strife and giant purple robots. But short of a few Marvel crossover games, the X-Men have been fairly quiet in the gaming world since the X-Men Legends series. This new Android platformer at least fulfills the promise of playing as a wide range of characters, but it seems to be a bit lacking on the gameplay front.
Carl Williams writes, "The X Men are a franchise that during the 8-Bit days was horrible in gaming, then got better in the 16-Bit days and had a decent run in the 32-Bit era. Marvel licensed games have always been hit or miss in gaming. X Men Days of Future Past is a game based on the incredibly popular comic story arc of the same name (and recent movie that shared a similar plot). This is a 2D side scrolling action game that would probably fit in well on the Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis (two 16-Bit consoles)."
TTP:" Uncanny X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the action game developed by GlitchSoft released a while back on the App Store, has received a few updates in the past, adding new playable characters and new features. Unfortunately the game hasn’t received new updates for quite a few months, making players think that no new content would be hitting the game in the future. Thankfully this is not the game, as Uncanny X-Men: Days Of Future Past recently received a new update adding new areas and several gameplay tweaks."
The CEO of Glitchsoft, Andrew Fisher, talked about how he sees the industry veering away from free-to-play with loads of microtransactions and more toward free-to-play with paid expansions. The article is still fresh, as of right now, with only two comments. And those comments pretty much strike at the heart of the free-to-play vs. pay-to-play debate.
