1 fix video embed, 2 When copying text from the source article make sure you read over the text and edit it if necessary. A good example is when a site writes "We" or "I" , as this should then be replaced with the site's or person's name, or you can quote the source.

Backpack Harry

What would seem to be the closest thing to a Mario Maker style of game for iOS gamers has just recently been launched for all iOS devices and the new Apple TV.

Prepare yourself for an epic adventure in a classic, retro-style platforming world. Better yet, it’s a world that’s truly yours. So, go ahead, craft every level, play them, share them, as well as use them to challenge others, then run, jump, fly with a jetpack, and bounce off enemies like a trampolining god on your journey to the finish line.

Are handheld consoles on the way out?

The handheld market could one day be rendered obsolete as new tech devices are released. Smartphones are becoming more powerful by the year and it looks as if handheld consoles may be on the way out. Nintendo may be able to last for a while longer, but there's a big chance that Nintendo may even need to call it quits on their handheld side.

Man, I hope not. Between my Vita and my 3ds, that's where I do most of my gaming when I'm not giving my ps4 some love.

3-4-53468d ago

No handhelds are not on the way out.

Nintendo isn't going to leave a market space that they have dominated since the beginning.

That would just be a stupid business decision.

Sony is going to eventually release another handheld as well, but not until around the time of the PS5.

* Handhelds are completely different than mobile gaming and actually offer quality games were as mobile games are trash distraction apps that barely qualify as games.

* Can't stand these lame BS articles written for clicks.

Apocalypze3468d ago

Exactly , how can people enjoy mobile games with the annoying microtransactions? It boogles my mind just how much money people waste on mobile games on freaking microtransactions!

vegasgamerdawg3468d ago

Nintendo is branching out into smartphones, they know more than you...lol.

MrSwankSinatra3468d ago

Sony is not releasing another handheld LOL, really don't know where you conjured up that nonsense. Sony has come out on record giving excuses as to why there won't be another handheld in their future. Not even mentioning the purely evident failure that was both the PSP and Vita.

ruefrak3467d ago

The problem is it isn't Nintendo's choice if handhelds stick around or not. The market makes that decision and sadly people have opted to ditch dedicated handhelds in favor of smartphones and tablets. That's not hyperbole, that's a sad and horrible fact. The people who used to buy their kids Gameboys or DSs now give their kids hand-me-down iPhones and cheap android tablets.

3DS is doing quite well and I use my Vita everyday, I'm doubting a successor to the Vita if Sony doesn't plan on stepping up their game, but Nintendo handheld's are not going anywhere. I wish Microsoft would make a damn handheld already.

Apocalypze3468d ago

I think sony should had waited this generation of handheld and just come out with a PSP 2 implemented with VR . Now tell me who wouldnt had bought that in a sec?!

rainslacker3468d ago

I take my Vita, and occasionally my 3DS with me every time I go out...so I guess in a way, they are on the way out....along with my keys, and if I remember, my pants.

vegasgamerdawg3468d ago

If you can't see smartphone taking over handhelds, you don't have any vision. Why would you take your handheld console with you when your smartphone can do the same exact thing? Makes no sense, try making sense and living in reality.

EverydayJoe3468d ago (Edited 3468d ago )

My Game of the Year, Snake the reboot.

Honorable mention, Brick Breaker

ABizzel13468d ago (Edited 3468d ago )

Nintendo is here to stay, everyone else either needs to make a gaming based tablet or they're DOA.

MrSwankSinatra3468d ago

Sony is pretty much done with handhelds as if that wasn't evident, Nintendo on the other hand will never leave the handheld market until it reaches ZERO consumers. Handhelds are Nintendo's bread and butter.

Sgt_Slaughter3468d ago

According to the 3DS, no.

See how logic works?

jaycptza3468d ago

Dude the 3DS is not selling as wonderful as you seem to think. Is it selling more than the Vita yes. But the market is changing

Sgt_Slaughter3467d ago

56+ Million in a market that has smartphone companies trying to invade it... sounds impressive to me.

Tross3468d ago

Not one of these articles again. Once smartphones can offer the same experience as handhelds I will accept them as the successor to them. In the meantime, they need at least a few modifications, not the least of which is a proper control scheme. Dedicated handhelds may fall by the wayside, but that doesn't mean smartphones will be ideal successors. It will be a sad day indeed when that happens, and I refuse to click on some third rate article by someone who's clearly too casual to be taken seriously as a gaming journalist.

HighResHero3468d ago

Another one of these articles and a few years late.
They used to post these years ago when smartphones were at the height of their novelty and nothing came of it.
Then there were the ones who knew next to nothing about technology talking about tablets replacing consoles and pcs. Pretty funny stuff.

Junebug3468d ago

Gaming journalism sucks! :/

Darkwatchman3468d ago (Edited 3468d ago )

I read the article and am honestly afraid of how much of a positive spin it put on gaming on smart phones. The day dedicated handhelds make way for mobile gaming is the day I give up on new games and stick to just collecting every good game possible for the 3ds, vita, and any handheld before it. All those games will keep me company until death. Mobile gaming will not eclipse dedicated handhelds and any real gamer that embraces mobile gaming with open arms makes me really upset. I've been playing my 3ds a lot recently after spending 2 weeks straight on vita. I can't see mobile games ever being this good and controlling this well. There's also the problem of convenience. Getting a call or text while playing a game on your phone. Phones are primarily communication devices. This will get in the way a lot and I'll never ever support mobile gaming as anything more than a mindless diversion.
