Look I get that this is an opinion piece, but seriously though, this is what is to be expected. New hardware comes out, devs learn how to do more with what they have, and the older gen gets left behind because of its limitations.
And then the cycle starts again.
Are we finally moving away from referring to the current gen as 'next gen'? Looks like it, at last ;)
I don't know why it's so surprising when the current generation of consoles are around 18 months old.
