Gears of War's Bleszinski on BF: Hardline's First Hour; Enjoyed it but wishes there was more "doing"

The creator of the famed 'Gears of War' Cliff Bleszinksi is known to be a real fan of shooters and on Twitter the developer has shared his thoughts on the first hour of Battlefield Hardline and the more recent AAA titles in general.

One could even see his statement lashing out at the recently released 'The Order: 1886', which was from the beginning compared to Bleszinski's Gears of War.

The first hour is a bit hand holdy but Episode 3 onward is fantastic, it's not quite as open as Bad Company 1 but way more so than BF3 or 4.

VER1ON3746d ago

I do think Visceral and EA have valid points for going into another direction and I have to agree with Bleszinski on the first hour. The game improves vastly afterwards. I do feel that he's hinting at Ready at Dawn's The Order as well though.

MadLad3746d ago

After reading the Tweets, while he is directly just speaking of the title in question, there's no doubt his comments are a bit of a throwback to his position on the Order from a couple weeks back.

Is this a new trend when a new game comes out we're going to get a "What does Cliff think of the beginning of this game" article. WTF!?

A lot of developers comment on others work. Both positive and negative. It's Cliff though, and he's rather disliked among the N4G circle. The vocal ones, anyway. Easy for hits.

This was sent from my PC. Using a CoolerMaster Recon Mouse. I have a BenQ monitor, and my desk is made of a nice, finished wood. Perhaps mahogany. I'm not sure, I am not an expert on these things.

That's what I was thinking too.

Personally, Devs' opinions are immaterial to my gaming experience. Just like reviewers', I guess.

Considering I have no desire to purchase BF Hardline I really don't have anything to add as far as my own experience with the game. However I'll point out that it seems like Cliff will always have something to complain/whine about with any game that he's not involved in, just saying.

VER1ON3746d ago

Reminds me of some other industry person ;)

spicelicka3746d ago

I don't think he's complaining or whining. He's just saying what he feels professionally. And it sounds like something anyone else would say.

MadLad3746d ago (Edited 3746d ago )

And, to be fair, he sort of has a track record of rather stellar games.
And he's just voicing his opinion. He's a gamer. We're on a site where many come to to do just that. Just because he makes games, does that mean he can't have an opinion on other people's work?

@die_fiend

He created the entire Unreal Brand. He created well received titles before then, developed when he was just a teenager even. And then he created the "decent" Gears. I don't care if you don't like the man, give credit where it is due. He's a game developer, and a good one. His opinion matters. And saying that a game should give players more actual gameplay than cinematics . . . is that even something to disagree with?

die_fiend3746d ago

He's constantly criticising other people's work. When the only thing decent that he made was Gears, and that game died within about 2 games, with the multiplayer basically lasting 1!

So instead of wishing there was more 'doing' (whatever garbage English that's supposed to be), maybe take your righteous piggy nose and start 'doing' something yourself Cliffy B! And not a free-to-play microtransaction piece of belloni that no-one will play.

Antifan3746d ago

Don't worry. It's just a reskin, so you're not missing out on anything. Payday 2 is a much better game. Even the GTA5 heist update beats this entire game. Don't waste your money unless you're rich

Forn3746d ago

Thanks for the heads-up ;-)

I know this guy shaped gears but everyone enjoys games differently. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

VER1ON3746d ago

Yes correct but his tweet is directed at The Order: 1886 it would seem.

PudgeyBurrito3746d ago (Edited 3746d ago )

I honestly don't give 2 shits what Cliffy B thinks. Judging a game on the first hour? I could see if you got through half the game and it was still the same, But the first hour? not ever game is going to be gears thankfully.

This was one of my harder platinums to get, mainly because the game was the beginning of the Battlefield decline, this game was horrible.

Yi-Long227d ago

DLC for shooters generally splits the player-base between ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’, and it often means that servers became less populated and as a result, many dropped the game completely once that happened …

myDorazio227d ago

Yeah, kind of ironic isn't it. If they had released it a year later with the DLC part of the base experience, it would have gotten a bigger audience.

Hardline at least tried to mix things up for the first time in a while. This was pretty much the nail in the coffin for Visceral though.

The map were to small for a lot of ideas, riding around two streets was stupid

Cacabunga232d ago

Yet another great decision made by EA. They really know what they’re doing

just_looken232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

The vip mode was a great idea but the whole game had that need more time in the oven feeling. My only big issue with hardline as a whole was the smgs.

But vip plus c4 classic

Hardline was my favorite Battlefield.

Demetrius233d ago

Hardline was fun af, nice size areas to get around in. Got a good 10 hours out of it because I took my time much as I can. Sucha good story and atmosphere

RavenWolfx232d ago

I didn't even know this was something that had been requested. A new Bad Company, oh hell yeah. Hardline? Not so much.

HyperMoused232d ago

Hardline was great for what it was and it had the best MP mode with the moving hardpoints, if you havnt played it the hard points to capture were vehicles, with points earned for how long you are in one, so its this huge mash up of ground warfare and taking out vehicles and getting in one and tearing ass trying not to get blown up...was awesome.
