Final Fantasy VII Remake shipments and digital sales top seven million

Total worldwide shipments and digital sales for Final Fantasy VII Remake surpassed seven million units, Square Enix announced.

CrashMania15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

What's interesting about this is, it's across 3 platforms in 3.5 years. FF16 sells almost half of this in a matter of days, but a certain group are convinced it's a failure.

Both games have clearly sold well, but they can't carry the weight of every bad decision a publisher makes.

CrimsonWing6915d ago

Pretty sure FF7 Remake did 3.5 mill on ONLY PS4 in 3 days, which was faster than FF16’s sales to the 3 mill mark.

FF16 didn’t sell enough to recoup the dev cost and sales have slowed, which consequently made Square Enix pay out of their own pocket the dev cost so that future sales of FF16 would be at a profit. This dropped net profits by 65% and operating income plummeted by 78%. I don’t know what fantasy world where you’d call that a success.

I don’t get why we’re at this FF16 vs FF7 Remake point. Like the game you like, but let’s not kid ourselves on things.

gold_drake15d ago

you also need to consider that the biggest ff7 haters are final fantasy fans themselves. alot of ppl just didnt like it cause it wasnt the 100% faithful remaster they wanted it to be.

raWfodog14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

FF16 sold well enough to make a profit. It just didn’t make enough of a profit to cover the losses incurred by other titles.

“Analysts told the publication that Final Fantasy 16 failed to make up for the poor performance of previous Square Enix flops, such as Marvel’s Avengers and Forspoken, and mobile games that were shut down soon after launch.”

They were looking for the ‘high end’ of profits but they were a lot lower than they hoped.

“During a post-earnings call to analysts, Kiryu said the high end of the company's expectations were not met and the slow adoption of the PlayStation 5 was a limiting factor”

That seems awfully low given how hyped the game was and how well it was reviewed

Not to mention, it says shipments not physical copies sold, so the amount that people own is probably only at six million

This might just be me over-thinking/expecting what the game should have sold though, and this could be great for all I know

Which JRPGs Should FFXVI Fans Play Next?

Final Fantasy XVI is a thrilling action-heavy spin on the RPG formula, and other JRPGs like Tales of Arise and NieR:Automata are just as exciting.

shinoff218387d ago

I'd say try one of the older final fantasy games. 6, 7, or 9. That's final fantasy at its best.

cemelc86d ago

I would agree with you. but 16 is nothing like those.

Whoever liked 16 probably wont like turn based probably, gameplay is too much of a departure from older games

closed_account86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Dynasty Warriors , because they like mashing the X button to exhaustion. (any of them - they're all basically the same w minor tweaks) If FFXVI can be considered a jrpg, then so can Dynasty Warriors. You get XP, level up, and it was made in Japan. These are the prerequisites that people argued here were the only thing needed to make a jrpg. So who knows? 🤷

**But seriously, I would say the Tales Series. I really liked Tales of Arise... some people don't. The stories are hit and miss sometimes, but I still enjoy them to some extent. Tales of Berseria is good if you like a darker story. There's a bit more typical JRPG tactics and ability utilization aside from the action focus of the game.

closed_account86d ago

My apologies - I actually hate the Dynasty Warriors series, I wouldn't really recommend it. I was just trying to make a point. 😂

S2Killinit86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Not necessarily. Personally, I like turn based and I also like live action, both contingent on it being done right.

Cemic your right. Just my sad attempt to get people to play the old schools

Road to Zanarkand holds a special place in my memories. Haven't played it for probably 15 years but Auron was 👌 Awesome music and story.

Flawlessmic86d ago

Ahhh your speaking my language!!!

Auron is my fav FF character, I just thought he was so dam boss when I was younger hahaha

Knightofelemia86d ago

Any Tales games even the ones before Arise, Trails games are also good, so are the Y's games.

cemelc86d ago

Tales are awesome, Arise doesnt have the best story, but it has really good gameplay

shinoff218386d ago

I thought arises story was pretty damn good
