In light of Warner Bros announcing Batman: Arkham Underworld for mobile devices, Grab It Magazine discusses whether Batman's image is being dragged through the gutter.
Warner Bros. announced it's pivoting to live-service games, which could be a disastrous move for its devs
I don’t think there ever was a time for GaaS. Its entire resistance is revolved around making a game that generates recurring revenue constantly throughout its lifetime. It’s straight up a corporate scumbag design.
I watched the video seeing if anything changed since the initial Suicide gameplay vid before the delay and it looks the same. So weird watching all the characters just start a gun to their back and bounce super high shooting with no kick-back animation in an empty dead world. The voice acting is cringe and there doesn’t have any sense of atmosphere or immersion like the Arkham games.
And they expect you to pay $70 to $100 for this and then pay more for Battle Passes and items to make grinding less a chore. Yea, no thank you. I hope you learn a hard lesson with this one.
Today, during Warning Bros' conference call, chief executive officer David Zaslav talked about Mortal Kombat 1, Hogwarts Legacy, and the company's gaming business.
yea, because thats what people want, especially after those games sold millions and are not live service games haha.
so dumb haha.
New mk sold less then the last in the same time frame the NEW MK is legit a live service game with its horrible monopoly board. I just wanted a normal title...
From GameWatcher: "Total War: Rise of Mordor has been removed from Mod DB following a DMCA takedown claim filed by Warner Bros.. Development of Total War: Attila's ambitious total conversion mod will continue, according to the developer, who is also looking into rebranding to avoid similar issues in the future.
"... we have received word from ModDB officials that Warner Bros has sent them a DMCA takedown request to remove Rise of Mordor from their databases. We are grateful to ModDB for giving us time to put our affairs in order before the page is taken down," read a post announcing Total War: Rise of Mordor's departure from Mod DB."
I think the CoC formula can now really just be considered a genre and developers are bound to work within that genre with existing IPs at some point. Some of them might even turn out to be good.
And with the financial success a few of those are reaping, it obviously speaks to a lot of people who seem to be enjoying this style of game.
As gamers we can make the choice to play them if we are interested or not play them if we aren't. It's not like the existence of this style of F2P game is going to mean the non-existence of other genres.
Although having said that, F2P is creeping into some pretty weird places. But I think it will all just end up being co-existing options for gamers and devs
Hopefully.
They're not the first - and some like Star Wars Commander are fun enough
Tarnishing Batman's image???
Has the author not seen the TV show from the 60's! Or the travesties that Joel Shumacher inflicted on the world. Or the epic(ly ridiculous) Bat-Mite / Bat-Hound storyline! Or Kevin Smith having Batman tell a story about when he pissed his batsuit!
Even if Warner released a pay to win mobile game where Batman fends off rubber sharks with a repellent spray he happened to find in his utility belt while Robin tweaks his rubber nipples, they wouldn't be tarnishing the reputation!
Just because Rocksteady have done a couple of terrific games, and everyone (for some reason) lost their shit over the Nolan films, all of a sudden Batman has a reputation to protect! Money is the key factor here, not protecting the IP.
