Too many developers still treat co-op as a binary solution to making a game more appealing: it either has the option or it doesn’t. But the best co-op experiences aren’t just single-player games that you happen to be able to bring your friend along with. They’re specifically designed – in terms of the mechanics, the enemies, and the level design – with the idea of having one or more human companions working together. And Helldivers is certainly not a game you want to play alone.
