This article outlines six steps to consider while battling competitively against opponents in Pokémon.

When you’re paired up against an opponent, both you and your opponent are given a couple of minutes (less at VGC) to choose the four out of six pokémon you’re going to send out against each other in battle. It is here, in this finite amount of time, that the odds of victory are stacked for or against you. Sure, nothing is set in stone; some moves aren’t guaranteed to hit and comebacks do happen, but by and large these beginning moments matter just as much as the core battle itself.
