Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII going "international" in Japan

Three years after it came out in Japan, Square Enix will release Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII International as a value priced Ultimate Hits game on September 4. Don't get envious yet. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII International is in actuality just the North America version of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. When Square Enix localized the game Vincent learned how to run faster, got a limit break item to transform instead of using his MP, and had a number of post game Extra Missions. The catch was online play via PlayOnline found in the original Japanese release was removed from the game.

The hugely popular Final Fantasy 7 universe shows no signs of slowing its expansion, so here's all the spin-off games released so far.

The gift of FF7 keeps on giving.

Some serious misfires in here, but a lot of good stuff too.

Final Fantasy Games That Deserve the Remake Treatment

Final Fantasy has a long running history with numerous numbered titles and spin-offs, but which games stand to benefit from a remake?

gold_drake127d ago

i feel like all of them.
well except 2 haha.

shinoff2183127d ago

Agreed. Ff2 though can be made better, so it's not entirely a lost cause. Ff8 will gets its time. I do wish they'd do the old ones. From ff10 and up those ones still hold up pretty well.

kevco33126d ago

Honestly, I've always felt that VII and up 'hold up well' in that regard. The early 3D games just needed a cosmetic update. But the FFVII Remake is so different to the original in execution that a lot of games could be done in a similar fashion and feel far more modern.

I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing (that depends on your personal preference!), just that they could feel very different.

shinoff2183126d ago

Kevco I liked remake but I think your right. Idda been happy with a 1 to 1 remake that looked like ever crisis to. Or both

I'd just love I square would one day give us a turned based one with today's graphics. I can't really think of a jrpg that does that.

andy85126d ago

I'd rather the 13 trilogy just be ported tbh. No matter what you think if it, it shouldn't be the only numbered offline games not playable on new consoles. But naturally I'd play the **** out of 8-12 remakes.

shinoff2183126d ago

I do agree. I'd give it another shot even though I didn't like it at first. My taste change over time. Gta 4 for instance I was so disappointed it lacked so much of what san andreas had I didn't play it for like 5 years. One day went to a semi pro football game(American football) came home drunk and decided to try 4 again. I actually liked it after giving it a fair shot.

Just make new games. Not every game needs to be remade.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Won't Be Complete Until Its Most Hated Spinoff Gets Remade

Crisis Core received positive reception as the latest entry into the FFVII: Remake Universe, but it won't be complete until Dirge of Cerberus is remade.

2moda5gamer450d ago

I think most would welcome a remake - there's a lot to improve.
Also the Yuffie DLC shows it's characters are far from forgotten, and a big highlight to the whole 7R experience.

Hofstaderman450d ago

They can cover Vincent via DLC . I wonder how he will control, I imagine like a more agile Barrett with Beast limit transformations

Reibooi450d ago

I loved Dirge back in the day but I have never gone back and played it because so many people hate it and I wonder if I was just a dumb kid or something.

That said a from the ground up remake would be great as it would be able to not only fix game play problems, but they could take another stab at telling the same story in a way that more easily fits in with what they are doing with the 7 Remake stuff now. But because of a lot of different factors, I doubt it will happen. More likely Square will either ignore it or just do a heavy remaster and tweak a couple things.

Fist4achin450d ago

Nah. Not dumb. I played it too. I don't remember much, so it probably wasn't anything to amaze gamers. Just another gaming experience.

phoenixwing450d ago

I never got a chance to play dirge of cerebus so if they remake it with better whatever I'll enjoy it I think

solideagle450d ago (Edited 450d ago )

my DP :p

It's gameplay was no offense bad...

CrimsonWing69450d ago

Eh, I mean yea, technically, but the story is so throw away. I guess mostly for Deep Dive, but Rebirth could tell more of Vincent’s backstory instead.

Cerberus ends on a cliffhanger so even with this remade the story wouldn’t be complete unless FF7 Remake somehow becomes a sequel to it and Genesis is in it.

ERMAGERD, Dirge of Cerberus!
