Square Enix has trademarked "Square Soft" and "Enix" in Japan

Square Enix has trademarked "Square Soft" and "Enix" in Japan. It's unclear if this is to prevent other companies from using them (highly likely!) or if Square Enix will use them for branding (perhaps!)

In my opinion, Enix just fused to destroy SquareSoft. It was such a great company. Enix should separate again.

Enix can focus on Dragon Quest, Square on BD,FF and others.

not sure what that means as the main teams at Enix who did the DQ games have still been doing the DQ games and Squares teams have still be heading the FF series and KH series...

Yea it's more of a what if based on the article.

In the current way though, if SE ends up bankrupting somehow and going under, it WOULD effect the DQ games, where as before that wasn't the case.

And Parasite Eve 3 has been made on PSP.

Let me cite, Kingdom Hearts series, War Of The Lions, Crisis Core, Bravely Default and many more.

Don't let 3 bad games with FFXIII some how equal all of Square in general...they are much more then just 3 bad games.

Square doesn't own the name to the series over a legal dispute as they down and never owned the rights to the name Parasite Eve, its based off of a novel of which they don't own the rights to.

What would happen to Eidos if that were to happen? Some of SE's major IP's are behind that subsidiary. Tomb Raider, Just Cause, Kane and Lynch, Thief, Hitman, Deus Ex. They couldn't possibly split if they were going to also split up Eidos.

Every game in the 90s with a Squaresoft logo on it was full of epicness. Hopefully its a rebranding of SE that harkens back to the old days.

People always wanna bring back Square Soft cause of their games, but Enix was a powerhouse too back in the day. Valk Profile, Star Ocean, Dragon Quest. Fall back.

I never liked the merger in the first place, but thing is, I'm now more worried than before. If they'd split, it's not as if the same devs would still work there, and there's no guarantee of same ideas, or even ips. It will most likely be mixed groups, with a lot of fresh blood, and working in their own new pace and with their own ideas. Whether it would be for the better, or to inherit the spirit of Squaresoft, it's an unknown gamble.
