Mad Catz Secures Petz Licenz

Accessory manufacture Mad Catz have just announced that they've signed a licensing agreement with Ubisoft to create branded accessories for the Petz series of games for the Nintendo Wii and DS. Yes, that's right - Mad Catz is going to make accessories branded with Catz, as well as Dolphinz, Dogz, Horsez, Bunnyz, Tigerz, Hamsterz, and any other number of animals that can be pluralizes by swapping out an S for a Z. The only question is why this didn't happen sooner.

New Developments for Ubisoft's Petz Dolphinz?

Split-screen.com: "For all it's cuddly annotations and inspiring thoughts, the Petz franchise has a convoluted history. Originally a Tamagotchi-style pet raising game that preceded even Tamagotchi itself, Petz allowed one to adopt their own animals and raise them as, er, pets. The particulars are typical with a cross-breeding option also available but things really got dicey when users started to reverse-engineer the game to produce new breeds, playscenes, clothes and dev tools for the game. PF Magic, Mindscape and Ubisoft (the controlling parent company) approved.

"In 2006, Petz was reinvented for home consoles and handhelds. And why not? Nintendo showed that the virtual pet genre had plenty of life left with it's Nintendogs DS games. The six different iterations correspond to different breeds: Bunnyz, Horsez, Tigerz, Dolphinz, Monkeyz and Hamsterz. Now the confusing part starts."
