Hardcore Gamer: If I were to say that I’m a fan of RPGs, I’d be lying. Rather, I’m a fan of Paper Mario and Persona 3. I’m a fan of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. But above all else, I’m a fan of Earthbound. I can’t think of a single game that charmed me more in my formative years than Earthbound; I even befriended a kid I didn’t like when that game came out to gain access to his copy. No game since has managed to be quite as surreal or trippy as Nintendo’s oddest RPG. Needless to say, when the first Citizens of Earth trailer dropped into my life, I was pretty excited.
I’ve been playing Citizens of Earth for the last week or so now, and after ten hours of playtime I don’t know if I’ll finish it.
VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "As time went on it became clear that many of these projects were hobbyist titles and a large amount of the developers had never actually researched the practicalities of launching a game on Vita, leading to an ever-increasing number of cancellations over the years. And yet some delivered. It’s this I’m aiming to examine in this article – how many projects succeeded in reaching the Vita, how many failed, and how many are in limbo, as well as a conclusion on the overall state of Kickstarter (and other crowdfunding sources) on the handheld."
Nintendo Everything: Citizens of Earth is no longer available on the 3DS eShop, and if you’ve been keeping up with recent news, you probably know why. A homebrew vulnerability was discovered within the game just a few days ago. Nintendo was expected to follow up on that, and they certainly have.
Laguna Levine writes: "I don't think Earthbound/Mother 2 needs much of an intro, but if you need it, it's a Super Nintendo RPG set in modern times with an unhealthy dose of pop culture references and humor that's got quite the cult following. The series isn't very long, but perhaps its uniqueness and history of being unavailable to English made it somewhat legendary. Well, those of us who grew up with the game are in the work force now, and it's inspiration has lead to two interesting Kickstarters: Citizens of Earth and Undertale. Both drew a lot of inspiration from the same source, but each branched out into completely different directions."
I was going to get it but my friend git it and I didn't like what I saw much. Probably still get it just because Vita has nothing.
It's not an easy game to live up to. Brilliant writing, music, and atmosphere. It was ahead of its time. Citizens of Earth is still a great game though.
As much as I want to like it, I can't bring myself to play citizens of earth for more than 30 minutes bursts. :/
