Square Enix has filed a trademark for “Shinra Game System” in Europe.
Shinra Technologies is a subsidiary of Square Enix focused on cloud gaming. The trademark might suggest Square Enix is readying a stationary device to support its upcoming cloud gaming services.
Additionally, Sony Computer Entertainment filed a trademark for “PlayEnglish.” PlayEnglish was a game released for PSP in Spain in 2010. Developed by Tonika Games, it had players investigating a mystery while learning English. Read more about it here. It’s worth noting that the new trademark is different from the 2009 trademark.
Square Enix made a surprising announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2014 when it unveiled its plan to create a cloud gaming service under the name Shinra Technologies, the same name of the evil corporation at the center of Final Fantasy VII. At the head of this cloud gaming initiative sits Yoichi Wada, the former CEO of Square Enix who stepped down in 2013, presumably to get Shinra up and running.
Didn't they drop the Luminous Engine?
Agni's Philosophy was really interesting. It might make a good setting for Final Fantasy 16.
