“It’s about time” – The Elder Scrolls Online drops its subscription, but is it too little too late?

Dealspwn: "Credit to Zenimax to trying to salvage their sinking ship, though. I'd suspected that we might see the console versions of TESO quietly fall completely off of the map, but this presents an exciting new opportunity for both the developers and us players. At the very least, I'm contemplating a return to a game I found deeply, desperately disappionting with Tamriel Unlimited (all existing accounts will be upgraded come March 17th), and it certainly bodes well for the console versions.

Just how well remains to be seen, of course."

Bought it for $60, played it a few times and never again. Would definitely like to jump back in to check out the improvements (loved Skyrim, hated ESO). Just could not bring myself to re-subscribe. This changes things!

Can you summarize the good and bad of the game?
I'm interested and, to me, one random opinion on a forum is more worth than 10 "critics" review...

Also, they gave up on the subscription but will probably fill the game with paywalls.

Honestly it was just regular MMO stuff that bugged me.... Enemies randomly appearing, hitting an enemy and they dont react. I honestly didnt play long enough to find the good in the game, its just the bad that was overwhelming. You also have to remember I played right at launch, who knows how much it has changed.

I was always interested to try again, however there was NO WAY I would pay for a monthly subscription.

Thanks for the feedback. Will watch it.

a man might try this Summer if he hears good things about the PS4 version. Won't buy at launch though that window belongs to Batman Arkham Knight as a man already has the CE preordered

i forgot this game existed

I hope the PS4 version is 1080p/60FPS.

I so totally saw this happening....

Let's keep it real for a minute. ESO should never have launched a subscription Retail/Digital model. $60 and $14.99 per month was a big ask, plus Elder Scrolls, as good as the series has been, just doesn't have that kinda star power.

I'll definitely play it now Bethesda/Zenimax have come to their senses ;o))

The subscription isn't the real issue, the real problem is that they created a game following the standard linear mmo design and slapped the Elder Scrolls title on it. If they had instead went for a more sandbox based route and created something more along the lines of a Skyrim MMO with replayability, there would have been loads of people willing to pay the standard subscription fee.

I just don't think ES has star power as an MMO. The series was best noted for the SP offline RPG games. If this was a new entry in the ES series (or even a remaster of Skyrim for PS4) I would have been excited for it, as an MMO though my interest is zero.
