4 Reasons to Jump on the Wii U Bandwagon in 2015

The Wii U has fought long and hard to earn your respect and hard earned cash. Here are some reasons why you should give it a shot in 2015.

Gave it a shot at launch, no regrets. Now that the Wii U has started to move units it is about time for the 3rd parties to come back, exclusives would be nice, but at this point anything would help.

wonderfulmonkeyman3449d ago

Anything aside from gimped ports, ya mean.
I don't care what anyone says, I don't want to see any more multiplats hit the Wii U until there's some guarantee that they'll be done right.

Exclusives are the wave that the Wii U needs to ride to gain success for the rest of its life-span.

superchiller3449d ago

The only problem with your excuses, is that the multiplats can't be "done right" on hardware that is hugely inferior to the true current gen consoles, and even inferior in many ways to the last gen consoles that came out seven+ years before it! Stop with the "done right" excuse, and just admit that Nintendo completely dropped the ball on the Wii U console itself, left out or gimped too many features, all to accommodate the gamepad gimmick.

And if you don't buy into that gimmick (as most people don't), and are not a diehard Nintendo fan who simply MUST have the next Mario/Zelda etc. game, then the Wii U is just not worth buying.

wonderfulmonkeyman3449d ago

@ Chiller
The thing wrong with your excuses is that the ports that have hit the Wii U so far COULD have been done right.
As could any future ports that hit the system, in terms of content, despite visuals.

Just go crawl back under your bridge. We all know you're only here to rag on anyone that isn't sucking Sony's ****.

George Sears3449d ago

I find it funny when Nintendo always tries to do something new, everyone calls it a gimmick. Last gen they added motion controls for the Wii, everybody called it a gimmick yet Sony and Microsoft were like crazy trying to imitate its success with Kinect and the Move controller.

From the little things like the D Pad, Rumble Packs, wireless controllers etc, Nintendo has done a lot for the industry and they continue to follow and do there own thing like they have been doing in the past. Although Nintendo was struggling the first year of the Wii U, now with there latest exclusives they have been doing fairly positive. Most exclusives have sold millions of copies and above all, they have legs to sell a lot more.

thelwebb1003449d ago

My only fear is that I'll buy a Wii U and then Nintendo will stop supporting it by 2016 when their new console comes out. I keep hearing that there's not much Virtual Console support as well, would you still recommend a Wii U?

wonderfulmonkeyman3449d ago

@ Thel
Those are rumors, my friend.
Nothing more and nothing less.
All of Nintendo's home consoles have lasted at least five years before the new one was released; you're not going to see a replacement for the Wii U released until AT LEAST 2017 or 2018.
You might hear HINTS about what they're PLANNING for it in 2016, but that's about it.

1080p 60fps is one reason.
Free online also.

Magicite3449d ago (Edited 3449d ago )

Only 4? But I need 5!

Hopefully Wii U sells at least 2/3 of what Gamecube sold.

superchiller3449d ago

There are a lot more than "4 reasons" NOT to jump on the Wii U bandwagon in 2015. Based on current trends, the Wii U will fade out in 2016, and a new Nintendo console (probably handheld/console combination) will release in 2017. The future library of the Wii U looks to be very anemic at best, with virtually no 3rd party games and just a handful of 1st/2nd party games.

With the PS4 and XB1 just ramping up with tons of great games in the pipeline, there really is no reason to consider the Wii U in the future; the other systems offer far, far better hardware, and far larger/better libraries over their respective lifespans.

CorndogBurglar3449d ago (Edited 3449d ago )

People have never really bought Nintendo consoles for the 3rd party or multiplat games.

if they are there, then cool. But most people buy Nintendo consoles for the exclusives. These games are usually high quality fun that you can't find anywhere else.

I'm talking about the Mario Bros games, Zelda, Metroid, StarFox, Smash Bros, Mario Kart...

Again, every now and then Nintendo gets the exclusive on 3rd party games like they did with Bayonetta 2, or Resident Evil 4 with the Gamecube, and those usually turn out to be huge successes. But still, those types of games aren't what people expect when they buy a Nintendo. They are just added bonuses.

Also, its a much more family oriented console. I'm getting one next month so me, the wife, and our 5 year old can all play games together. I would also be lying if I said I wasn't excited about the Wii Store that is filled with so many older, classic titles.

Don't get me wrong, I have a PS4, and I won't act like the Wii U is better than that, or the Xbox One. But it isn't fair to act like there aren't more than enough reasons to own a Wii U.

gerbwmu3449d ago

I already have 1 and it is a fun machine with some great titles but my 4 reasons that I'm excited to have a Wii U in 2015 are:

1) Xenoblade Chronicles X (I know it may not make it)
2) Zelda
3) Splatoon
4) Star Fox

I'm hopefully FE vs SMT will make an announcement at some point as well but that seems to be either canceled or 2016

jayzablade3449d ago

My 4 reasons for owning a Wii U

1 - Games Playable From Day 1 - No broken games requiring 20gb patches or missing features till the devs can be bothered to fix them....after they've taken your money!

2 - Franchises I Love - Do I really need to list them all?!

3 - Backwards Compatibility - I own over 50 games for the Wii, nice to be able to play those previous titles without needing another machine, subscription or even worse....a rental fee!!! (I also own over 30 Game Cube titles, if they were to add a GC channel it would be amazing but i still have that so not a biggie for me!)

4 - The Game Pad - I can play games while the Mrs watches her stuff on TV, watch Netflix the same or just take it to bed for an hour or so while she reads her book and we fall asleep!
While it could be utilised better in some games and add additional features, i'm happy with it and happy with my purchase!

randomass1713449d ago

1 - Except for Sonic Boom lol, but I agree.

2 - I haven't played a lot of Nintendo franchises since the NES/SNES days so it's kind of refreshing to get into them again.

3 - Yeah, that made it easier for me to get Trauma Center. :)

4 - I like the gamepad too. It's not the best controller I've ever used but I think it's pretty underrated.

PsBoxGamer3449d ago (Edited 3449d ago )

That price needs to drop to at least $225 and it must have at least 7 ganes I really want to play and right now where at 4

kwandar3449d ago

We're at 4?

Zombi U, Rayman, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros U, Super Mario 3D, Lego City Undercover, Supermario Bros U Bayonetta 2 (and arguably 1), Monster Hunter 3

..... I haven't got interest in Capt Toad Treasure Tracker, but mind you I didn't have interest in MarioKart of SuperMario or Lego ... till I was convinced to try them.

Anyway .... there are 10 very good games based on ratings ... and other than Capt Toad, based on my experience.

That doesn't even include the great 2015 lineup.

Don't care what anyone says, Smash isn't a traditional fighting game. May as well call Powerstone and Playstation All Stars fighting games. They're more of an arena fighter /party game.

NotoriousWhiz399d ago

You don't have to care what anyone says. It's not a traditional fighting game. But it is a fighting game.

CrimsonWing69399d ago (Edited 399d ago )

I mean what makes them an arena fighter than say something like Tekken? Because there’s platforms?

NatsuXTheMaxspeed21399d ago

because theres a bunch of pokeballs and other random stupid stuff on stage that you can use at your advantage and flying ultra super power ball that you got to chase on the stage to get your ougi LMAO.

CrimsonWing69399d ago

@NatsuXTheMaxspeed21

I mean what it sounds like is they took a fighting game and “added” unique mechanics to it to me.

When I think arena game I think of things like Spawn: In the Demon’s Hand or Virtual-On.

Smash to me is a fighting game, they have fighting game tournaments for it. It just doesn’t jive with me to call it “not a fighting game” because you have poke-balls and platforms or because it has 4 players at once duking it out.

Power Stone I’d consider a fighting game as well. Hell, if you google what it is everyone calls these games “fighting games”. So yea, they’re fighting games…

Immagaiden399d ago

What’s next, you gonna say Mario Kart isn’t a racing game?

NatsuXTheMaxspeed21399d ago

oh its a racer but its not a realistic one like GT or Forza. only kids check for mario kart and smash .

Immagaiden399d ago

I didn’t say it was realistic. I said racing game. Does Burnout not being realistic make it not a racing game?

What does a demographic have to do with a genre? Do kids playing CoD make it any less an FPS? You see how ridiculous bringing up that subject is?

repsahj399d ago

"Only kids and kids at heart check for mario kart and smash".

-fixed!

FallenAngel1984399d ago (Edited 399d ago )

Nobody said it was a traditional fighter. Everyone acknowledges it as a platform fighter

PSASBR & Power Stone are fighting games, the former being a platform fighter and the latter an arena fighter

gleepot399d ago

You're correct, it isn't traditional. It's a fighting game though.

repsahj399d ago

Because if cute and lovable characters are fighting it's not a fighting game? XD As long there's a versus fighting, it is a fighting game.

MrNinosan399d ago

Including Smash Bros in a list of fighting games, is like including GTA in Racing games.

NotoriousWhiz399d ago

I hate to break it to you but smash bros has fighting game tournaments so it qualifies.

MrNinosan399d ago

"and here's how it competes against other fighters"

No, Mortal Kombat doesn't compete with games like Smash Bros? It's a different genre for a different audience.

NatsuXTheMaxspeed21399d ago

Anybody can host a tournament in their garage it doesnt mean it qualifies.

NotoriousWhiz399d ago

I'm going to assume you're not part of the FGC. However, I am, and I can tell you that there is a ton of overlap between people who play smash competitively and those who play other fighting games competitively.

Now for casuals, there is a lot less overlap between the two for sure.

PapaBop399d ago

While technically true, Leffen comes to mind, FGC and Smash community have always had a rocky relationship.

Thundercat77399d ago

And yet, If Smash Bros was over 80 million, you wouldn't be complaining. On the contrary, you would be bragging about it.

Immagaiden399d ago

Bad comparison. You do a LOT of things in GTA outside of a car while fighting is what you’re mainly doing in SSB

Ezio2048399d ago

Given the volume of games released, I would say Tekken has sold the best.

lodossrage399d ago (Edited 399d ago )

Yeah, that's a good point. Most of these games have parts to the franchise outside of traditional fighting games.

Like for example, with Mortal Kombat, do Special Forces, Mythologies: Sub: zero, and the Kollection count?

With Tekken does death by degrees or the tag tournament games count?

With Street Fighter, are we counting all the iterations of 2, 3, and 4? how about the ex series or alpha series?

There are a lot of variables at play here

Ezio2048399d ago

Even after including Tekken Tag, they have less titles compared to all MK and SF games.

CS7399d ago

Yeah, i realized that too. Very interesting.

Nintendo will not allow Super Smash Bros. on the Evo 2022

Kim writes: "Super Smash Bros. will not be shown at Evo 2022, this year's biggest fighting game event. The Sony-owned sports organization announced the loss of the platformer in a statement on Twitter today, and seemed to blame the decision on Nintendo, which has historically tried to control how their games appear in the wild."

The moment Sony acquired EVO the writing was on the wall. A big loss for EVO.

blackblades845d ago

Sony acquiring them had nothing to do with it. Nintendo fault.

AnotherGamer845d ago

That has nothing to do with Sony though.

ZeekQuattro845d ago

Yeah I'm supposed to believe that Nintendo who has been apart of Evo since 2007 up and leaves after Sony acquires Evo is just a coincidence. Yeah okay.

Michiel1989844d ago

pretty sure Sony would allow them to compete. But nintendo has seen all smash bros tourneys as free advertisment from the community, instead of providing setups/games etc they demand that you play their adds on the tourney and put up posters with their newest game instead of actually supporting the competitive smash scene. They just piggybank off them. Now that Sony runs it they wont get free advertisement over there, thus fuck over their smash community by not allowing having it at EVO.

Brazz844d ago

Also big loss for smash community.

Vengeance1138844d ago

Huge loss for Nintendo, could have been huge PR for Smash and to further the titles reach and to gain even more players but Nintendo is happy to let it slip into nothingness. No new content is coming to Smash so literally all it has left is potential tournaments.

Knightofelemia845d ago

In away this hurts Nintendo Smash Bros has some dedicated fans. What better way to help build hype and sell more of the game then showcasing it at EVO.

Atom666845d ago

https://www.gamesindustry.b...

They wanted more control, which led to starting up their pro circuit. We'll see if it works out.

EVO's recent troubles probably played a part in the decision, but my bet is that they were planning this for awhile.

-Hermit-844d ago

Because it's Nintendo, they just don't get it. They are so ass backwards. At this point, they deserve to get left behind by everybody else. The only reason why they remain relevant is because they appeal to nostalgia.

Neonridr844d ago

except they are currently the most successful. Left behind, lol. Cute Hermit.

-Hermit-844d ago

@Neonridr

I never said they are left behind, I said they deserve to be. Nintendo hasn't done a single positive thing for gaming for a very long time now.

They are anti consumer, release weak and overpriced hardware and shit out the same games to appeal to nostalgia. They don't put any effort into their "remasters" they go after fans for making fanmade games, they go after emulation when they don't give a damn about their older games.

They charge to play online for the Switch after it was free for a year and are behind every single company when it comes to online infastructure. They make it difficult to back up save games. They lock content behind those crappy Amiibos. They sell cardboard to people because they are too cheap to develop actual good hardware to go alongside their console. They go after people streaming Nintendo games.

I would argue that Nintendo are less consumer friendly than the likes of EA, and that's saying something.

whitbyfox844d ago

They just announced 48 new Mario Kart tracks for free with the expansion pass, that’s a whole new game for free.

You must have missed that one.

luckytrouble844d ago

@whitbyfox

"Included with the expansion pass" is not free. It's part of what you're paying for with your subscription fee. I get people try to call things included in subscriptions free to help rationalize costs involved with this subscription heavy model that has taken over, but the addition of something in a pretty unanimously agreed upon to be an overpriced subscription isn't Nintendo being nice; they're trying to incentivize people to finally see the cost of the expansion pass as a good value. In this case though they already established the cost of permanent ownership, which I'm sure was forced low to not over value the subscription, so you know that pack is actually worth $25. It's not free in any sense of the word, and Nintendo is only trying to do themselves a favor with this move.

whitbyfox844d ago

@luckytrouble

We never knew we were getting the Mario Kart tracks, we thought we were just paying for the N64 Megadrive and Animal Crossing DLC so it’s free to me.
