A couple of SNK Playmore series like Samurai Shodown have been adapted by Korean developers. Metal Slug Revolution takes the run ‘n gun game and adds RPG elements by letting players customize their slug. There are over 250 slugs in the game and a player versus player mode.
Developer InPlay Mobile is promoting it with Metal Slug cosplay. RZ Cos, a cosplaying team in Korea who did League of Legends cosplay, dressed up like Fio and Eri for Metal Slug Revolution.
Developed by Interactive, ‘Metal Slug: Revolution’ shows the appeal of the classic IP Metal Slug. According to the official, the new shooter has got 200,000 pre-registers so far. It is obvious that the IP has a massive user base in the world. And many players have high expectations for the mobile version of Metal Slug.

*sigh* It seems all my beloved classic Japanese arcade games are moving to mobile, and I will never be able to experience them again.

Consoles are not as lucrative as they once were.
Carl Williams writes, "SNK Playmore are not scared to update their classics into new genres. We have seen Metal Slug Defense (review here) where the classic shooter series was transformed into a tower defense game. The King of Fighters has been transformed into a rhythm game and now, we have another Metal Slug game. Metal Slug Revolution brings the classic series into the realm of action role playing games similar to say, Popful Mail on the Sega CD. The only problem is, Metal Slug Revolution is currently only headed to Korean iOS devices."
