Poison was always a woman, until the localizing "edits" happened in the 1990s. Similar to recent Dragon Ball Z Kai televised edits. Mr. Popo turning Blue, but we all know he's Black. (Mr. Popo's race is actually Genie and I guess changing him to the color Blue is an Disney Aladdin reference)
