It was a whirlwind of good and bad in the video game realm this year. There were epic titles, disastrous releases, and striking controversies that made up all 12 months for gamers. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo battled it all out to capture the gaming universe and not one escaped praises and blunders, big and small. As the year winds into a close, gamers now determine which console offered unsurpassed gaming experience in 2014.

PS4 Sold more Hardware and Software through 2014.

Opinion wise Wii U had Smash and Bayonetta Mario Kart That's just not a win overall no matter how much I blindly love Nintendo. X1 Had Halo Collect, Titan Fall Sunset, Forza. PS4 had Second Son, Drive club, LBP3.
I'd say X1 got it in Exclusives overall and all 3 consoles had astounding 3rd party multi-platform titles. ALL three had a slew of unadvertised network and indie games that no one would know about unless you own the console, That brings me to believe that unless you own all three you can't justly make this decision. Just choose your console of choice and run with it.
I do love how all the fair-weather Wii U fans are coming out the woodworks now that it has momentum.

X1 and Wii U are shutting it down right now.
BTW I know their are many other exclusives that came out this year.

I owned a Wii U since launch and a PS4 since xmas day. PS4 definitely the better console with the more epic game experiences. Comparing Zombie U to The Last Of Us is just embarrassing, GTA 5 is epic, FIFA 15 epic too. Sure Wii U has some cool games, hell i'll even admit it had the best line up of 2014 but lets not kid ourselves it is the weakest console and doomed to be third this generation.

The WiiU had an incredible year as far as content goes. It's a highly under-rated console with some must have games not found on any other platform. 2014 was a very good year for the WiiU while the Xbox One and PS4 had typical launch droughts and bug plagued game releases. If you can separate sales from gaming you will see the WiiU arguably had the best year.

I'm glad you enjoyed the PS4 offerings this year. You must not have the most broad tastes if you hate 4 of the biggest, most critically acclaimed series in gaming. But to each his own, right?

For me it was

Sales: obviously PS4

Games: Wii U

And although i don't think the xbox one won either of those categories, it successfully re-established itself over the course of the year and had some good games to boot. I look forward to every console's next year.

I have to agree with you that Wii U have the better exclusives. However, I'm at the stage of my life where im no longer interested in Mario and pokemon games. I just wish Nintendo first party would make more adult theme exclusives.

My fave Wii u experiences in 2014: Donkey Kong country, Mario 3d, Mario kart, sonic lost world.

Ps4: Alien isolation, killzone, tomb raider, trials fusion, live watching other players.

Xbox one: Murdered soul suspect, titanfall, killer instinct, cod aw, other gamers videos.

Personally, I think Microsoft made the biggest effort in 2014 and improved a lot, so I vote Xbox!

In exclusives: It's subjective, but the sheer quality of its games has lead many to side with Wii U on this one, which is great because high quality games that work day one deserve to be noticed.

I would say PS4, WIIU, and my PC were all disappointing this year. On my PS4 Infamous Second Son and Watch Dogs were disappointing and below expectations as far as story and length. On Wii U Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Super Mario 3D World were disappointing since I expected these games to be some of the best in their series but they weren't even close. Also on my PC finding out even though I just built it for $600 a year ago and it can't play almost any of the ports from XO and PS4 this year sucks. XO is probably disappointing too since it has most of the disappointing games PS4 has but I don't own one.

All 3 won in different ways.

Sony won sales - by ALOT.

MSFT won in terms of exclusive releases (TF, SSOD, FH2, HMCC vs TLOU and SS) and momentum. PS4 sold 25% LESS consoles this November (in the US) than it did in 2013. XONE sold 25% more.

Nintendo kept its core fans VERY happy with SSBM, Mario Kart and Bayonetta.

Also Nintendo basically announced a new handheld and console for 2016. Console will be 2.5x more powerful than a PS4, so I think we will see 2-3 years of Nintendo being back on top.

Unfortunately, if its not already WELL under development for the WiiU - it ain't going to be released. So 2015 and 2016 will not be pretty for the WiiU. Hard to make $$ on an install base of 8 million. Did you know the Xone has sold 1.5 million more games than the WiiU and the PS4 has sold 2x as many? The Xone has 25% less titles and the PS4 only has 10% more - so sales PER game are MUCH higher.

PS4 - DriveClub, Final Fantasy XIV, MLB 14: The Show, LittleBigPlanet 3 and Guilty Gear Xrd. In addition to TLOU AND inFAMOUS: SS.

Wii U - Donkey King Country: Tropical Freeze and Hyrule Warriors. In addition to Smash Bros, MK8 and Bayonetta 2.

The Wii U had some great game releases as did the Xbox One.

The fact is the PS4 dominated in sales both hardware and especially software.
The PS4 has sold 17 million consoles worldwide and the Xbox One just hit 10 million.
