Final Fantasy VII – Nanaki and Seto’s Story Is Kind of Haunting

Retrovolve: "Final Fantasy VII was filled with emotional moments, but there’s one scene in particular that I’ve always found especially dark and moving. It might not get brought up in FF7 conversations as often as Aeris’ death scene does, but the image of Seto’s petrified remains has always haunted me."

This scene always resonated with me more than Aeris's death when I first played this game.

Sadly we never see this kind of emotional scene again after FF XII. That's why personally i found FF XIII story really boring. I felt nothing when i watched the dead of Hope's mother, Sarah got crystallized, or Vanille & Fang relationship. Maybe Sazh & his son Dajh gave some emotion for me. But the rest are flat out boring. Hell, even the main protag motivation to safe her sister also felt emotionless.

After Sakaguchi, Tetsuya Takahashi, and Yasumi Matsuno left, Square really lost all their great story teller...except Nomura. Hopefully FF XV can rectify this messed up. I expect Nomura will bring great story that resonate with players without giving to many mumbo jumbo plot twist like he did with KH series.

The villain also carried no emotional weight for me. Characters like Kefka and Sephiroth and the others, you could hate or pity or at least be interested in. When it came to FFXIII's villain, I just felt nothing.

Tetsuya Takahashi never wrote a FF game though and Yasumi Matsuno only ever worked on FF XII as a writer. The person responsible for FF XIII's crappy story is Daisuke Watanabe, he wrote all three Lightning games.

Kazushige Nojima is the one writing for FF XV. He wrote for FF VII, VIII X, X-2, & Crisis Core.

Yes Tetsuya Takahashi never wrote story for FF. But what he did with Xenogears are awesome. The main story a bit complex for mainstream gamers but he can created characters that i really care. Even when he left Square and created Xenosaga, the game still have better characters than FF XIII.

Yasumi Matsuno is the director, writer, and concept designer for FF XII. Until he got sick and hospitalized. Than SE replaced him with Hiroyuki Ito and Hiroshi Minagawa. Matsuno is Sakaguchi's golden boy. That's why Sakaguchi refused to play FF XII and only watched the opening CG when he knew Matsuno got removed from XII.

Matsuno also the creator behind Tactics Ogre, FF Tactics, and Vagrant Story which are some of my favourite RPG's of all time and still have better story than any FF game that SE produced this past 5 years.

For Kazushige Nojima, he already left SE from 2003 and founded Stellavista, a freelance scenario company. SE still hired his service though. And yes i heard his working on FF XV scenario. But Nomura got removed from XV, so i don't know if SE still use his talent...

FFVII, what a unique and rich gaming experience that until this day gamers still remember and discuss it with passion.

I'm luck to have experienced this gaming milestone to its fullest back in its days.

One of the best parts of the game as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah. That’s the first I’ve seen it anywhere near #1.

Mario 64 is great but I wouldn’t put it over Mario World.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list is a crime.

CUnit12312363d ago

Sorry lol. I wrote the article but 5 of us voted for many different games and majority went on the list then we worked on the list. If it were just my personal top favorite we'd seen some xenoblade and star ocean as well as some others. Thanks for checking out it!

Chrono Trigger at 31 makes my heart hurt.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list at all is a crime.

The effort here is impressive. Hope it doesn’t get taken down.

He should have done it in Dreams though, the limitations of having done it in LBP are obvious.

solideagle273d ago

ah Dreams had so much potential, I think they should have released it on PC. one can only dream about dreams sale and popularity on PC. PC has modding/creative crowd and I think it would have been a hit

I love seeing projects like this. So much passion and time.
