Most memorable for me is Links from Zelda - A link to the past on the snes.

The first time I saw cloud with his buster sword, will always be very memorable for me. I was only 10 at the time and yet it gave me such and impression. Big poster at a randomn little electronic market.

I have no clue. Im starting to think "gamers" do not like Zelda. I have posted few things about Zelda in the past few days and have had a lot of disagrees. I think its funny because I do not think there is a Zelda game that is even close to being mediocre better yet bad, they are all amazing.

Its a good list, I do agree that the energy 'sword' is one of the most iconic weapons in gaming, is it really a sword though? It works more like a Kakute or a large Tekko.

I always thought the Gunblade was more iconic then the Buster sword...it's basically just a massive Butchers knife really.

It's certainly a more iconic weapon, but then FF7 has always been the more populer game.

Suppose but then again I feel it's popularity means people feel the need to include it in every "Top 5/10/20" lists even when other Final Fantasy games do things better

True, personally I would have put Squalls Gunblade in the Buster Swords place, but I'm biased since I like the design more.

For a more recent addition (somehow i think the author confuses old with iconic) i think the MEAT CLEAVER should be added.

I agree. The buster sword was neat, but was still just a "starter" sword as it was done away with after the initial part of VII. The gunblade maintained its presence in various forms throughout the entire play through of VIII

Actully, in the top 5, was a fencing standoff I had against one of those fencer guys in Dark Souls while I was underlevledin he Undead chuch.

I was an epic battle that lasted for 15 min in which I reigned victorious.

So yeah, that should have been on the list.

Yeah all my personal faves and based on a combo of looks and the bad asses that wield them. So Link and the Master Sword don't look very B.A

My favorite sword would be The Northern Regalia from Demon's Souls. Once you hit new game plus and the enemies are insanely hard, this sword definitely comes in handy. Plus it looks badass.

It isn't iconic really at all, but I think one of the coolest swords for me is the Fierce Diety sword from Majora's Mask...that is one badass sword!

The Master Sword is easily the most iconic, but the Monado needs to be on this list. You ask any JRPG player about the Monado and they will most likely know what you're talking about.
