You Don't Have To Kill Prostitutes In 'GTA V'

"Here’s a small fact: You don’t have to go around killing everyone in Grand Theft Auto V. The game gives you an enormous amount of choice, at least outside of the main missions, in who you help shuffle off this mortal coil. It’s a game largely about choices, actually."

Yi-Long3800d ago (Edited 3800d ago )

Agreed: The player has the freedom to decide what he wants to do. Very simple.

Yes, I can kill cats and shoot animals, but I don't, because for the most part, it just isn't very fun TO ME. But I certainly applaud the fact that they exist in the game! ( I just wish there was ALSO an 'interact' button that allows you to pet a cat, instead of only the option to stomp it, or leave it alone completely)

You kill millions of guys in video games, but with GTA we have a game where you can ALSO kill women (for the simple fact that they exist in that world), and suddenly some people are outraged?

Ridiculous.

Nothing wrong with GTA5's content. In fact, they're already implementing quite a bit of self-censorship, by not including children, disabled, old people, etc etc, in their gorgeous Los Santos.

Also, the violence itself is far from realistic of course, and not at all gory.

TheShiteHawk3799d ago

What if they don't have my MONEY?????

Lightning Mr Bubbles3799d ago

I've never even picked one up in GTA V.

Yi-Long3799d ago

I did pick one up, just to see what would happen, and to check out the 1st person view, but it's nothing special, 1st person view doesn't allow you to actually see anything, and I also didn't bother killing her afterwards, simply because there's no real incentive to do so.

It's nice that you CAN kill a hooker afterwards. Not because I'm into that kinda stuff, but because it would be stupid in this kinda game if you couldn't. It's an open world with lots of freedom. If someone walks in front of your car, yeah, you can run them down. Or you can get out and shoot them.

I don't have any problem with that kind of freedom in these games. I welcome it.

I do have a problem with these hypocrite people jumping on the anti-GTA5 bandwagon about it's so-called 'violence against women', as if somehow fictional violence against women in video games is somehow a huge taboo, while we've seen millions of games where we kill, beat up, maim, etc etc fictional MEN in video games.

Apparently, to these people, the lives of men, both fictional as well as in the real world, are worth much much less than the lives of women(!)

Also, once again there is this huge divide in outrage between video games, and other forms of entertainment, like movies, books, TV shows, etc etc.

Kill some women in a movie? No problem. Write a novel about a serial killer who goes after women? No problem. Have a video game set in an open world which gives the gamer the freedom to get into a vehicle or pick up a gun, and kill pedestrians? OH LORD!!! BAN IT!!!

It's just ridiculous, the different standards and the hypocrisy among many of those attacking GTA5 right now.

As always, it's very simple: If you don't like it, then don't buy it.

But do NOT go around trying to censor and/or ban it for everyone else!

Because that would make me a whole lot more filled with anger, hatred, aggression, etc etc than any video game would ever manage to accomplish.

NukaCola3799d ago

The only reason I have ever killed a hooker in GTA is because I get my money back. I don't enjoy killing them for any reason.

Yi-Long3799d ago

BTW, the Bible, just like other holy books, is filled with horrendous acts of violence and murder.

It's not just filled with violence of murders, but it actively states you should enforce it's rules and punishments.

Now, obviously, the vast majority of the people in the world will not take that literally. Not any more at least. We've mellowed out over all the cruel evil stuff that's in the Bible, and 'we' take from it the parts that seem reasonable and are of use to us.

I sure hope it won't take as long as 2000 years for video games to reach that kind of rational acceptance.

There's no old people in GTAV? I could have sworn that I spotted a geriatric in amongst the crowds

MasterCornholio3799d ago (Edited 3799d ago )

I know its just a game but when I drive I try to avoid hitting animals. However I dont give a dang about people though.

LOL

Mutant-Spud3799d ago (Edited 3799d ago )

In Saints row you can do a flying tackle on a woman and pound her face into the pavement, in Dragon's Dogma you can pick up your female companion and throw her off the nearest tower or cliff, in Red Dead Redemption you can tie women up and leave them on the railroad tracks or drag them behind your horse, in Fallout 3 you can...you get my drift.

In the old days, the Romans used to actually kill people for fun. Nowadays, we use virtual worlds. It's better.

TheShiteHawk3799d ago

If GTA stops at least one real life psycho acting out his sick fantasies on innocent people by venting their deviant behavior then this game is a lifesaver!

pkb793799d ago (Edited 3799d ago )

That's the thing. A psycho is already crazy before they pick up a game controller. It takes a life time of abuse to make killer. A game is not going to create one or stop one for that matter.
It's already in their heads regardless of what the read, watch or play. It's just easier for society to blame an entertainment medium then actually get to of root of the social problems that cause these server mental problems.

Agent_hitman3799d ago (Edited 3799d ago )

Well in sandbox games like GTA you can do everything that's prohibited in real life. Although, for other people it's ridiculous and unacceptable. Man! it's just a game.

creeping judas3799d ago

I feel bad when I run over people? Or animals like deer in the mountains.

PaleMoonDeath3799d ago

I'm aware that I don't have to, I just want to.

‘GTA V Gets Pulled from PS Plus as PC Players Continue to Favor Legacy Over Enhanced’

That’s an awful clickbait title. The use of the word ‘as’ means the first statement is the result of the second, when in reality they’re not connected.

Profchaos11d ago

Also the same for red dead redemption 2 and GTA trilogy (albeit they split that into individual games)

Tacoboto11d ago

It just got put back on Game Pass recently too.

GTA V is the pass-around sub title, and it probably doesn't even matter because everyone owns a copy or even two by now.

Trash article and trash website.

Noticed my copy of gta5 on Steam was already upgraded without me doing anything. How can you still play the legacy version?

Shiore2u10d ago

There should be a second listing right under it in your library.

Is there anything wrong with the enhanced version if you’re just playing single player?

My problem with the game is they want to install a Kernel level driver before I can even boot the game in sngle player mode I don't care about GTA online

I flat out refuse to allow any game kernal level it's a huge risk I don't need to take

It's not the only game that has done this. Ut it's absolutely shutting the dorr completely on PC gaming for me kernal level drivers are ineffective at preventing cheaters but publishers insist on continued use

My big issue is how long it takes to transition between open world and interiors in Online.
Sometimes it can take over a minute of just starring at a black screen.

It looks great, got everything running on ultra, have long shadows set to max and it's running silky smooth.

The ray tracing and lighting makes the game look amazing.

CrimsonIdol58d ago

The reflections are a noisy mess, particularly with DLSS. Shame they didn't have ray reconstruction, seems to work wonders for cyberpunk

MrDead58d ago

The reflections are like a mirror, I have no noise at all. Are you sure you have it set correctly?

CrimsonIdol58d ago

I've everything maxed out. the reflections DO have a lot of noise in them in motion. When you stop for a second to look at them they look okay but when you're driving around there's a definite blur and sparkle to them that you often get from RT. Again, exactly the same as you get in Cyberpunk without ray reconstruction but is much reduced with.

MrDead58d ago

I really don't have that, what you see here is what I have in motion even online vids have it completely clear. I'm running of a 5090 with everything set to the highest.

https://m.youtube.com/watch...

CrimsonIdol57d ago

Ah I see. Well if you have a 5090 then I'm guessing are you're probably getting quite a high frame rate (I'm guessing hitting that 120 fps max), which will make a difference too, since the RT samples in the reflections accumulate temporally. I'm on a 3080 so I'm keeping my frame rate around 60-75 at 4K, and the low sample/high noise of the RT is definitely apparent… particularly on moving cars at night time I've noticed the most (makes sense given highest contrast between light and dark) DLSS amplifies the noise too, it's the big thing that sticks out as low fidelity when the rest resolves nicely

CrimsonIdol57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

Just had a chance to watch this on my 4K monitor now. Do you not see the blurriness of the reflections in relation to everything else in motion? Like it's definitely better and less noisy than it is for me at 60fps with quality DLSS but it's still pretty bad compared to how crisp the screen space/cubemap ones were when driving about. fine when you stop for a second but driving around you're rarely stopped so it's near constant muddy reflections.
