The Witcher 3's delay to May breaks devs' promise to fans regarding "no more delays"

As many gamers already know, CD Projekt RED’s highly anticipated, open-world RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has been delayed yet again – this time to May 19th, 2015 – which is 7 months after the studio promised that the game wouldn’t be delayed any further.

The Witcher 3‘s May 19th delay marks the second such delay for the title. Naturally, many fans are quite disappointed to hear the news regarding The Witcher 3‘s most recent delay.

However, it appears that fans’ disappointment has been largely exacerbated because of the (now broken) promises made by the game’s developers earlier this year.

In March, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski promised fans of the franchise that The Witcher 3 would receive no further delays or setbacks – stating:

“This is not our first game; we are not newbies. It’s not like, ‘Hey, we delaying and we’ll keep on delaying.'”

It appears that the latter part of Iwinski’s statement is certainly not the case.

Boo Hoo, another delay... :( Still it will be an awesome game once released. Well worth the wait.

DesertFoxJr3426d ago

It's actually probably a good thing it's delayed. 2015 is very heavily front loaded so far.

BitbyDeath3426d ago

Yep, early 2015 is packed.
Delaying this a few months was a good move.

poppinslops3426d ago

Still sucks though...

I guess I'll have time for the Dragon Age games, but GODDAMN IT!!!
I've been so insanely keen for Wild Hunt... I've avoided almost all of the promo material, I've been reading Sapkowski's novels and I was DELIGHTED when my hair started turning grey (I'm young, so it'll look great)...

But every time this game gets close, it gets delayed! Yes, I'm aware that this helps CDPR deliver a better product, but it's SO frustrating!
They must really want a Game of the Year award...

UKmilitia3426d ago

im glad tbh because i have enough to play

jan
dying light
grim fandango

feb
The order

march/april
bloodborne

and i still have a couple to play from this year yet.

Bhuahahaha3426d ago

i wont mind the delay

this guys(CD Projekt RED folks)really think of making a great game first before making cash

spacedelete3426d ago

its not the complainers that annoy me but trolls like you who whines that no one has the right to complain. its even more ironic as your the first post. troll who flamebaiting nothing to see here folks.

Relientk773426d ago

Guess people will be playing this like all summer

DesertFoxJr3426d ago

Yeah, seems like it. A bit of a bummer though. But it'll most likely benefit the game in the long run.

DanielGearSolid3426d ago

Sorry but ppl cant get mad at delays...

Do you want another broken game at launch?

DesertFoxJr3426d ago

I agree, but I don't think devs should make empty promises saying there will be no more delays. It just looks bad and disappoints fans. But as I've said, I do believe it will benefit the game when it releases.

LordMaim3426d ago

I would rather have a Dev go back on his word and delay a game to make it better than have them stick to a release date and ship a broken game because they were afraid to break a promise.

Either way they disappoint fans, but with the delay they also ship a better game.

Palitera3426d ago

Hype is bigger for games closer to release. That's the only reason why they lie about fake release dates.

The game was never meant to be released in the other false announced dates.

CYCLEGAMER3426d ago

I agree, these games need to be finished before they are put out and people should let devs finish the game.

However, I think that these devs need to stop giving release dates until they are 95% percent sure that they can deliver on said date.

LamerTamer3426d ago (Edited 3426d ago )

There better not be any "day one patches" with this then. Due to the delays I expect this will not be a buggy mess.

It sucks it's been delayed but it hasn't been delayed by all that long, 2 extra months will fly by, Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2+ will keep me more than entertained

DarXyde3426d ago

As long as it's polished and ready for release, I have no complaints. I'd rather they do it right. Day One patches look like the norm.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan20d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

MP games need micros to keep the lights on. Path of Exile is a good game with micros. It can be done as long is the game is not the scheme itself.

CrimsonWing6925d ago (Edited 25d ago )

You end up paying more than $70 in micros for a game specifically designed around them and that’s not a “scheme” by design?

I’ve played plenty of great MP games that didn’t have micros. I love how at one point we were like micros bad, GaaS bad, and now we’re like, well GaaS is MP so it’s ok.

anast24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Path is a free game. How else are they supposed to keep the servers on? You don't need up spending more . I've been playing the game since the beginning and I've spent less than $20.

Destiny on the other hand....

An MP game embedded in a SP game shouldn't have them.

I know you understand this. I have to be optimistic here.

CrimsonWing6924d ago

@anast

I’d argue “free to play” are more egregious than just a traditional pay to play game. You end up spending far more on a game than just $70 and I think the “free” games are sneaky by design to make a consumer think “well, it’s free, let me dump money into it.” I mean, they’re specifically designed to make you continuously put money into them. I heard with Path of Exile you hit a point where the grind is obnoxious without buying micros.

lucian22925d ago

Odd, I remember micro transactions for Witcher 3

CrimsonWing6924d ago

What micro-transactions do you remember being in Witcher 3?

FinalFantasyFanatic25d ago

I agree, I never pay for microtransactions, and in the few cases where I have, I've felt dirty afterwards, especially when older games used to give you so much content for free (like cosmetics).
