Sprite DLight – Instant normal maps for 2D graphics
Pixel art and dynamic lighting? Easy 3D effects in 2D games will soon be possible for everyone!
This Kickstarter project smashed its funding goal within 17h and is now approaching the second stretch goal – a Mac version.
Sprite DLight creates voluminous normal maps in one click, based only on the original sprites.
No additional work is required, and no artistic skills needed, just load your images and have the tool generate normal, depth, ambient occlusion and specularity maps, which can be used with any game engine that supports shaders.
There is still some time left to get in on the beta and to help the project reach some more stretch goals like re-rendering of sprites for different environments and a feature for manual artistic control over the generated normal maps.
