Assassins Creed: Unity’s planned optimizations are a slap in the face

MWEB GameZone Writes: "Assassins Creed: Unity's planned performance optimizations, which might not even make it into Patch 3, are a slap in the face to the gaming community.

Here is why the planned performance optimizations are absolutely disgusting and too little too late."

Glad i held off buying this game. What is ubisoft thinking.

Sillicur3596d ago

It was a very wise decision to hold off on buying it, well played sir!

^^
This title belongs to next-gen GTA IMO. ACU has nothing on it.

Nekroo913596d ago

decrypt solid? thats funny because at neogaf people complained about getting 25 fps while using a 970, yes it run at 60-50 most of the time but it still drops a lot. But if you use AA youll get 40 average.

And Sherlock you're talking about a gpu with a 400 euros price tag, you can buy a console for that price so dont compare it performance wise

Griever3596d ago

@decrypt

Decrypt, why do you ALWAYS have to go to each console articles and bash them for being weaker than PCs?? Just why?? Dont you have anything better to do?? Do you drive some kind of satisfaction from it??
As for that GTX970 running the game on 60fps; you are just using brute force. There are not achievement or accomplishment in there. Besides how does a GTX 970 costs??

retro_3596d ago

Performance is dreadful in some aspects on PS4. It's a nice looking game but you can see it's running below full HD so it's not that good looking in my eyes.

Grap3596d ago

i can't even access the other half of the game. coop is not working for me and many other player.. hell i dunno why i bought this game from the start.

Silly Mammo3595d ago

Besides, occasional dipping framerate, I've run into no real glitch issues on the PS4. I've played it every night since launch and have played many co-op missions. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

The only [irritating] problems I have had are with the damn companion app. It has reset twice on me and never reliably syncs with the game to allow me to open the Nomad chests and play the extra Nomad missions.

I have experienced the game slow down with HUGE crowds that you are running through, but it wasn't slowed to the point of game breaking. It was noticeable though because it seems like you are moving at half the full running pace only to have it speed back up once the large crowds are far enough behind you.

starchild3595d ago (Edited 3595d ago )

This site is pathetic. With the absurdly slanted review they wrote, which was mostly bullshit, and now this article, it's clear they have an ax to grind. What a complete bunch of hyperbole and exaggeration. I won't visit sites with such horribly biased writers.

The game runs damn well on my GTX 970 and I haven't had any crashes or serious bugs. It also runs just fine on my previous GTX 770 at a solid capped 30fps. This idea that it is a complete buggy mess on PC is just complete bullshit. Yes, there are some glitches, mostly related to the NPCs, and hopefully those can be fixed with a patch. But even as it stands now, it is very far from being an unplayable, broken mess.

It runs very well (but is justifiably demanding) and looks absolutely incredible. It's also a pretty damn good game, in my opinion. I agree with decrypt that this is the best looking game of the year, easily. Hell, it's the best looking game I've ever seen on any platform.

My 780Ti SLI setup is ready and I guess can handle the game fine. However out of principle alone, I am not getting it.

Ubisoft with ACU screwed both console and PC gamers alike, for that alone regardless how good I can play it, I will hold off.

PS: Decrypt: Reducing the resolution on the consoles is a "cheap" and coward's solution to the problem, poor optimisation. Ubi needs to fix the console versions. Same thing applies for PC gamers with AMD cards, the 290X should had been more than enough to run the game...but yeah.

Sadly, that seems to be the rule of thumb now with game buying. You should just hang back by default nowadays.

Magnes3596d ago

I agree as long as we leave our wallets open letting game makers stick their hands in anytime they please they will do whatever they want. Close those wallets I bet they snap to. The games aren't going any where show them the consumer is in charge not them.

MasterCornholio3596d ago

I enjoyed Blackflag but I won't be buying this game.

I know consoles are not as powerful as PCs but the game shouldnt have a horrible framerate and game breaking bugs.

I dunno, its at least a step in the right direction. Is there any ETA on the patch?

Sillicur3596d ago

No ETA on the patch yet and all optimizations might not even be included. They did say there will be more details at the end of this week

CongoKyle3596d ago

I just don't know anymore :< I'm just glad nothing bad has come from Far Cry 4 yet.

Choc_Salties3596d ago

It's ridiculous that this state of game affairs continues to happen. You'd expect that most games release should perform "well" on the games' stated mid-range spec, not run like an old dog.

Crikey, my dog (my actual dog, not the PC, or the SO) can still run at 45kp/h sustained - a hell a lot better than some of the framerates that you'd see out of these games these days...

Not a fair comparison to my dog though...

Sillicur3596d ago

Hahaha perfect analogy kind sir! Well done :)

HoldenZA3596d ago

This game really seems to be disappointing a huge amount of people. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot Ubisoft

Sillicur3596d ago

Yup and they just continue to dissapoint with these measly planned performance optimizations :( Very dissapointing

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis673d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde673d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils673d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia674d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack673d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain673d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

staticall673d ago

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

anast673d ago

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
