PS3 SALES CRASH IN MGS AFTERMATH

Sales for Sony’s PlayStation 3 have crashed a mere week after the release of Metal Gear Solid, despite topping the hardware chart a week previously.

PS3 sales for the week ending June 22 have plummeted from 75,311 units to 20,335 units, ending the boost given to the platform by the release of MGS4. However, Sony continues to lead over all hardware sales with the PSP, which, despite a drop of roughly 5,000 units, outsold every other format with 59,351 units sold.

Nintendo’s Wii also suffered a loss in sales, falling from 45,564 units to 41,037 units, as did the PS2, which declined by a little under 1,000 units to 6,346 units. Both the DS and Xbox 360 saw minor rises in hardware sales, now at 36,599 units and 2,555 units respectively
