New Nintendo 3DS (XL) review – Should you buy one? | MMGN

MMGN: Nintendo has taken the best handheld on the market, tweaked it, and prolonged its lifespan. If you’re a Nintendo fan, you’ll want a New Nintendo 3DS. But you needn’t necessarily buy one right now as, frankly, there’s almost no benefit to upgrading when there isn’t a single game that requires it or fully takes advantage of its new control features. But if consumers, and gamers in particular, followed such sound logic, there would never be any day one adopters.

Traded in a 2DS and a couple old games for my pre-order - Metallic Black N3DS, Adapter and Charge Base. Got a 32GB Class 10 MicroSD and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on hand, ready to go. By this time tomorrow I would have started my warm-up for MH4U. Along with Smash Bros., Pokemon ORAS and maybe Persona Q, I should be all set for Summer.

Been playing with it for the past few hours now...

The C-Stick feels a bit weird at the moment. It feels kinda jammed in the corner between the hinge, the border of the bottom screen and the X-Button. The indentation on the hinge is definitely a help but your up on the screen frame with your thumb when directing left to right. It is likely to take some getting used to that's for sure as at the moment I am unable to do quick thumb flicks with it - I'm having to slowly guide my thumb into position for a split-second first. Playing MH3U and the camera control feels either super sensitive or unresponsive at the moment. Again, just a matter of training co-ordination. Finding it easier the more I use it.

Metallic Black XL looks SIIIICK! More of a gun-metal grey colour. Has a diagonal cross-grain.

Plan to pick one up for MH4 and Xenoblades (not interested in paying $90-$100 for Wii version on Ebay), also can't wait to see how the improved 3D fairs.

I might be vaguely tempted if the XL had replacable plates. And if there was any actual reason to upgrade.

Honestly, only reason to buy a New3DS is if you don't already have a 3DS to begin with.

I cannot comprehend how anyone, when given the option, would take the regular 3DS/N3DS over the respective XLs. Those bigger screens make a helluva difference.
