So this guy was just a developer for Ubisoft, but yet he claims that he was at the meeting here Yves Guillemot (the CEO of the company) said that he doesn't care about PC gamers because 90% are pirates anyway. Yeah sure that sounds totally legit lol

Internet where anyone can claim whatever they want, without having to prove anything.

lunatic00013835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

Yeah it sounds like bs to me even though it does feel like ubisoft doesnt give a shit about PC gamers....I'm not saying Yves said that but ubisoft does have a record of releasing shitty PC games

Rimgal3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

Yeah they do have a track record of bad releases on PC, but anyone can claim to be an ex-employee of Ubisoft on the internet, especially on a open forum like reddit. Not saying that the guy is lying or not, but he shows no proves of what he's saying. And there are some serious accusations

Kevlar0093835d ago

I remember a Twitch streamer a year ago saying he doesn't buy Ubi games on PC. It all makes sense to me now. Not because of this article but because of Unity and Watch Dogs

starchild3835d ago

I've only really had problems with AC4 and Watch Dogs, and even then they still ran decently well on my PC. AC4 just needed better multithreading for multi-core processors and Watch Dogs needed a better streaming system for streaming in assets. Most other Ubisoft games I have played over the years have ran very well.

morganfell3835d ago

Just remember, anyone with a solid, good, original, and imaginative idea is likely to be an ex-employee of Ubisoft...

Irishguy953835d ago

I've found Ubi games to be ****y and broken for a long time, AC was the exception and even that had a crap load of glitches on release. Their quality control is atrocious.

starchild3834d ago

Can anybody that disagreed with me provide me with some reasoning or facts to show how I am wrong? Most Ubisoft games I have played did run well and look great.

Prince of Persia = Excellent
Splinter Cell Blacklist = great
Child of Light = Excellent
AC1 through AC Revelations = Excellent
AC3 = generally good but some CPU bottlenecking (lowering environment detail one notch allowed for perfect 60fps)
AC4 = again some CPU bottlenecking, but not as bad as previous game. Demanding on GPU side, but justifiably so.
Far Cry 3 = Great
Rayman Legends = Excellent
AC Unity = no CPU bottlenecking with my i5 2500k, but graphically demanding for obvious reasons: massive open world, highly dense and detailed environments, and the best overall graphics I have seen on PC. = Great

So from my experience playing the above games on PC I would have to say that most ubisoft games generally ran great for me.

0nespark3835d ago

It does sound a tad bit plausible though considering he does say that a well respected and well paid programmer asks the question from back in 2000s. Him being a developer, he could have been in one those large meetings that happen every now and then. Plus not to mention, back then, ubisoft wasn't all that big as it is now. So it doesn't sound like something that's absolutely made up.

k3rn3ll3835d ago

True, but I feel anyone who breaks NDA after such a controversial release is hard to trust. Especially when he says they can sue him he Doesn't care. In this case he could easily get sued And lose. Most NDAs don't have an expiration date on them for when you leave the company, and or after so many years. So I would definitely take this with a grain of salt everyone

radler3835d ago

I dunno, I'd say this story is pretty believable to be honest. Ubisoft are a terrible publisher whose whole business strategy revolves around misleading consumers with faked gameplay and screenshots, and repeatedly pushing broken and unfinished games onto the market year after year. The fact that it's reasonable to believe that Yves said that speaks volumes, in my opinion.

wsoutlaw873835d ago

The fact that is reasonable to believe also could prove its fake. It's what pc gamers were already thinking and want to hear.

NarooN3835d ago

Actually I'm pretty sure I recall several Ubisoft higher-ups basically giving the same excuse for their dismissive attitude towards PC. Why do you think they've been implementing all this shitty DRM on their products over the years? Has everyone forgotten the flak they'd gotten just a few years back for DRM on their games, and then they brought it back with Uplay? Come on.

Rimgal3835d ago

Yeah I know that they said that. They even said that a couple of years ago. And a simple google search is enough to find that claims.

http://www.pcgamer.com/pc-g...

So what this guy says anyone can say. So are you 100% sure that this guy is who he claims to be? If he wasn't hiding in anonymous, I might find his story credible. But he didn't even tells us his name.

But like I said this is the internet, anyone can claim whatever they want, without showing any proof.

cemelc3834d ago

@Rimgal

If he gives any proof he would land on a no hire list, there is no way in hell he will give it, no one sane would, stop asking for it.

Marcello3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

Well i totally believe it, what Yves Guillemont says is true, 90% of PC gamers are pirates. If you want to play Far Cry 4 on PC right now you can, will the 90% of those playing it now pay for it on Tuesday ?? will they fu@k !! if anyone believe`s anything else there a naive fool.

& yes Yves Guillemont prob is a c@nt, he`s just got one of those faces you wanna slap.

Wizard_King3835d ago

90%

Blow that out your ass, that figure is way overblow and Ubi have been flogging that horse for years as an excuse to cut corners (and save $) at every chance with their PC titles.

NarooN3835d ago

It honestly doesn't even matter whatsoever whether or not this guy is telling the truth. Ubi's actions over the past decade+ have been evidence enough to show that they suck and have made countless mistakes, especially in regards to their treatment of the PC as a platform.

frostypants3835d ago

"who said that he doesn’t care about PC gamers because, and i quote '90% are pirates anyway'"

Well, if he actually said it, it's hard to argue. He's right.

Razuel3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

PC Gamers only pirate is a very ignorant statement. If you pirate, hack on Steam then you are asking for alot of trouble, and will easily lose your entire game library.

k3rn3ll3835d ago

You don't have to have steam in order to play pc games. That's why they started u play because they felt there wasn't a viable option to prevent games from getting hacked. I play provides that for them. I don't enjoy u play either. Nor am I defending Ubis decisions. Just playing devils advocate for a minute

"93-95% PC piracy rate means F2P is just as effective, with lower costs"

-Yves Guillemot, 2012

modelgod3835d ago

Rimgal he wouldn't be able to submit proof without getting sued. Your his proof, you and everyone else who feels that ubisoft pc ports are shitty. He gave details as it pertains to the amount of hours he puts in every week, he's telling you how many employees have been let go. AC has become the new COD so what he's saying isn't too much of a stretch. As a business major, what he's stating very consistent and I believe him 100%.

Rimgal3835d ago

Again I'm not saying that the guy is lying, but what he says can be easily found with a simple google search.

http://vfxsoldier.wordpress...

Even I can create an acount and claim what he's saying. And this story is not even consider a rumor. People are accepting this as a fact.

its_JEFF3835d ago

This is the problem with coming out on the Internet... nobody believes you. Everyone wants proof, proof that if this guy is telling the truth. If this guy were to give the Internet the "proof" would likely land him in the "never hire" category. I'm sorry, but I'd rather stay anonamous than be deemed "unhireable" just for some internet credibility. I'm not saying this guys is telling the truth, but to ask for this guy to provide "proof" would be too much of a risk for him.

frezhblunts3834d ago

MaxwellBuddha3835d ago

Her recent departure from Ubisoft would invite speculation.

Marcello3835d ago

After the release of AC1 we didnt see her again, think she found out the hard way wat kind of rats nest she stepped into.

Adexus3835d ago

This is a bit too conveniently timed...

Ashunderfire863835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

Like I said its the management that is the problem, not the developers. They didn't even say they went gold for Assassin Creed Unity or Rogue? They just release it the way it is. What a way to treat consumers.

Baka-akaB3835d ago

Shocking ? While ever the experienced politician ... they'd ve never been shy about they lack of interest for pc versions , at least since the ps/360 era and the first assassin creed games

Three companies keep showing their true faces and telling us who they are but for some weird reason we refuse to believe them. Even when everything they show just makes their greediness even stands out more

Keep messing with the consumers and keep being greedy. Keep telling your consumers to get comfortable now owning your games and we will. You only have few IP's that gamers care about anyways so

"soon enough tencent will buy you out. They already own 49%. Keep deleting games from gamers libraries and getting sued over it instead of making offline play possible for the crew" it's sad that I believe in 10 cents more than UBI because atleast tencent knows how to run a proper business

These executives can taking millions and bonuses and stock options yet they fire those actually making the games without thinking twice. Gaming has become so greedy that their own greed will be their downfall. Companies like Capcom have realized making good quality games and treat gamers with respect

AC series started with a soul but now it's just a soulless empty option world with icons filling the game map. They make their own games so grindy so that they can see the XP boosters to even the odds. As a gamer in my 40's all I want to know is when did gaming just stop being about Fun and all about greed. Double XP weekends selling cosmetics and dances. I use to be a big sports game guy when I was in my 20's the other day I wanted to play NBA 2k and after doing some deep research I realized the best NBA game was 2k17 and NBA 2k25 at $9.79 I couldn't pull the trigger on that 2k25 for how egregious the micro transactions were. So much of the fun is behind a pay wall

dveio1d 5h ago

True words, buddy.

Q: "So how many units did Shadows sell?"

Ubisoft: "Well, look, we ... it's been a busy week."

neutralgamer19921d 4h ago

For over a decade, the price of video games remained steady. We paid $50, then $60 for full, content-rich experiences. Developers found creative ways to deliver incredible games without charging more. From the PS2 era through the PS4/Xbox One, pricing consistency gave players a sense of value and trust.

But then came the jump to $70 during the PS5 and Xbox Series X launches—justified by "rising development costs." And now, barely four years later, we’re seeing $80 price tags becoming more common for standard editions. At this pace, by the time the next generation of consoles launches around 2027, $90 games could be the norm. And with a behemoth like GTA 6 on the horizon, a $99.99 base price wouldn’t be shocking at all.

Yet we’ve also seen proof that this kind of pricing isn’t necessary for success. Look at the recent launches of Expedition 33 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Both released at $49.99 and have been met with strong sales and positive reception. These games show that there’s still plenty of room for high-quality, mid-budget (AA) titles that offer great value—and gamers are more than willing to support them at fair prices.

But here’s the problem: the big publishers don’t care. If we as consumers keep paying for deluxe editions, early access, and overpriced base games, they’ll keep pushing the limits. They’re not going to back down unless we speak with our wallets—because that’s the only language they listen to. If they see record sales, they’ll take it as validation.

It’s frustrating when these same companies report record-breaking revenue and profits—yet still complain about tariffs, still find excuses to raise prices, and still hand out bigger bonuses to their CEOs. If they’re doing so well financially, why are they passing more of the burden onto players?

It’s because gaming has become the second biggest entertainment market in the world. And with that comes attention from hedge funds, investors, and boardrooms focused on short-term profit, not long-term player trust. To them, your passion is just a revenue stream. They care about quarterly numbers, not the health of the industry or the joy of the experience.

And unless we—as players—take a stand, the greed won’t stop. The monetization will grow, the price hikes will continue, and the soul of gaming will keep slipping away. The choice is ours. We can either keep paying more for less, or we can push back. One purchase—or one refusal to purchase—at a time

dveio1d 3h ago

"And unless we—as players—take a stand, the greed won’t stop."

And that's the tough part about it.

Look at those annual figures showing billions and billions of money being spent on the most ridiculous add-ons, DLCs, pre-release accesses, even pre-orders, digital deluxe crap, etc.

I mean - we've stood together at times. I don't say it didn't happen before.

But within all of our communities there's so much passive aggressive defensiveness.

Look at the debates regarding physical vs digital.

Publishers can't keep a straight face reading our discussions in which many people abandon physical.

Playing straight into the cards of publishers out there.

neutralgamer19929h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Like I said gamers are the biggest issue with gaming. We may united on a issue but as soon as our favorite gaming franchise gets a release we will support it. If there any doubt Mario kart will be one of the best selling games on switch 2?

Things we use to unlock by simply playing a game has not be sold to us as extra content

Rainbowcookie21h ago

I think people arebgetting tired of the formula. We see it in sales. People just want fun again.

neutralgamer19928h ago

I just want games to be fun and not geindy and full of micro transactions

anast17h ago

Even the $130 ultimate editions of UBI games are only a bit less grindy and they still beg people to buy helix coins throughout the whole experience.

It's a travesty what 2K did to NBA 2K.

neutralgamer19929h ago

It really is because NBA 2K is simply unplayable without spending money and you can't even respec for a new my player you are required to spend again

Ubishit burned so many bridges with fans, releasing filler dreck that was purposefully designed to push you towards micro-trash-actions. It didn't have to be this way, they could have respected us players more, instead of making players waste countless hours of their life just to see stupid "experience points and resources numbers go up" and attempt to profit off us in such a disrespectful way. I stopped supporting them a long time ago. Keep burning bridges, and keep burning your company from within.
