Assassin’s Creed Unity Review - GamingMen

Two Assassins Creed games are released this year. Unity marks Ubisoft’s first incursion into next-gen era. This time Ubisoft decided to come to AC’s roots and bring whole experience to land-locked city of Paris. Unlike the previous installment no more wide spread seas, but believe me as soon as you start playing Unity you won’t regret it and start loving the beautiful Paris.

I am sorry, but no way a game with broken gameplay mechanics deserves an 8. The free running is entirely broken and feels like it should still be in its concept phase.

And before someone says, 'you mad bruh', yeah, I am.

KrisButtar3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

Yeah it already had a price drop in some places here by $10. I don't think I've ever seen that happen this close after launch.

FullmetalRoyale3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

You have every right to voice your dissatisfaction of a product that you purchased. I am having a great time with the game, but the "download the app so you can 100% the game chest" crap in *the game is unacceptable. Had I known about it prior to purchasing the game I would have purchased the game used. It really irritates me that I cannot get the platinum trophy in this game. What am I supposed to do, play the game for fun?! ;)

Haha it really does make me mad, but just poking a little fun at myself.

I think the parkour system works great, it just doesn't always LOOK great, if you know what I mean. It always works, even when there is the occasional clipping, etcetera.

While I have really enjoyed the core game, the obvious push to release it in a less that complete fashion is just plain disrespectful. Ubi was one of my absolute favorite third party companies. After the "download our app chest", and the obvious(I cannot emphasize that word enough) performance issues. I will be purchasing Ubi games, from now on, entirely in the secondhand form. It isn't about saving money, it's about not giving THEM my money.

I'm damn sure not going to miss out on a fun game(far cry 4), but after this I just can't support them. Which of course puts me in an awkward position because I buy all my games new to support the devs. I feel guilty, but Ubisoft did it to them, not me. I just want to have some fun with a damn game. Shame on them for making it anything more than that.

*Edited for typographical errors. Also sorry for the wall.

Assassins Creed Unity, better known as "How to tell if a reviewer is full of ****." Sorry, a game this broken doesn't deserve higher than a 5. I don't care what your opinion is, it's wrong, as it's based on misinformation and inaccurate facts.

TheWackyMan3501d ago

Just because you disagree with them, doesn't make what they said wrong or less valid. Stop it.

Perjoss3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

In most cases you would be correct, but a game with serious performance issues and many glitches and bugs should never be scored highly. And before any AssCreed fans jump in to defend, Ubi themselves started a live blog to keep people informed about the progress of fixing everything. Even PC gamers are complaining that the frame rate is terrible on a good machine even with settings on low (TotalBiscuit).

The fact that there are 'micro' transactions in Unity that cost more than the full price of the game is just disgusting. This is clearly a franchise that needs 2 years of development between each release not just 1. Not to mention the side by side release of Rogue, its pure greed with no respect for the fans.

Bugs, glitches, and simply broken gameplay is not an opinion. To ignore these is to do a disservice to your readers. The game, in its current state, simply cannot be an 8.

Bennibop3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

Considering the crap driveclub (which single player ran brilliant) got this game seems to be getting off lightly. This game runs like poop.

starchild3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

And in my opinion, having played the game, anybody that gives this game a 5 is just trolling. I wouldn't even give that site any traffic if they are going to be that deceptive and biased.

This review was fair and lines up pretty well with my experience of the game. People like you are the liars. You've had an ax to grind and were against this game since it was announced. That's the only reason you are exaggerating the issues and trying to say the game is broken.

I'm not saying there aren't glitches because there definitely are, especially with the NPC movement. But nothing even close to game-breaking. I want them to fix the glitches that are there, but it's just sad how massively these issues are being blown out of proportion.

Unity runs just fine on my PC and glitches are nowhere even close to as bad as some of you are trying to mislead people to believe. I like the game a lot and have had no significant issues with it.

Servbot413501d ago

Handwaving broken games and giving them high scores based on the assumption they'll be fixed will get us nothing but more broken games in the future. I've never even posted in a single thread about this game prior to this article, so I don't know why you'd assume I have an axe to grind. I simply despise reviewers giving broken games free pass after free pass.

And that's nice it works well on your PC. It may surprise you that the game also exists on two other platforms.

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Shaz from GL writes: "Assassin’s Creed Unity is looked at as one of the worst in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. But playing it nearly 10 years later reveals it may just be the best"

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis573d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde573d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils573d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia574d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack573d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain573d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

staticall573d ago

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

anast573d ago

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
