I don't know what is the insistence of purists looking for excuses like if a remake could make the original game disappear. Just play the original then and let other people play the new one, if there's ever a new one.
its weird though. they've remade 1,2,3,4,10,10-2. 5 wasnt so memorable. but 6-9 were the best ones why not remake? oh thats right we needed a boring FFXIII trilogy that ate up their development time over the past several years
Knockknockannefrank nailed it. I want a remake of 6-9 for PS4, but you can't trust Square-Enix nowadays, they don't care so much for jrpgs anymore. Lucky us that we still have Atlus, Level-5, Namco Bandai and Monolith. Like ACDC said once: " For those about to jrpgs, we salute you!".
I think Square has made so many bad decisions for so long, they would not make the game people wanted. It would disappoint the fans, embarass the company, and end in disgust.
Because for as long as the actual argument to make the remake, for triggered by Square themselves, has gone longer than a competent dev could have made it.
That the same can be said of FF15 is besides the point.
Edit: And at the same I see this trailer and just pine for the RPGs that could be made rather than an MMO: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
I think that's been their business model for the past decade. ;)
Jk. They've PUBLISHED some seriously fun games, imo. I also loved my time with A Realm Reborn. They still "got it". They just don't know how to use it, it seems.
that's the struggle lol..7-12 (excluding 11 of course) have all been amazing in their own respect, having engaging stories, awesome graphics for the time, emotionally character driven development etc etc.. So it's hard to just say 7 was the best or 9 was the best.. They ALL were the best imo, but for me 7 holds my memory and childhood the most. For others it may be different for sure, but no one can deny the perfection that is FF7 and the impact it had in the RPG industry (or lack there of) back then. I don't think there should ever be a remake of this game, imo .
I agree with you that when it comes to 7-12(although I would say 4-12 in my opinon) There is no best FF among them and that they are all exceptional games and it really just comes down to which one did you connect witht the most and which is most memorable to you as far as your favorite is concerned. VII and IX are equally my favorites and I love them both dearly but I have to give the slight edge to VII since it was my very first Final Fantasy game and my memories of that game and the time in which I first played it mean a lot to me. I am in the process of replaying it right now actually and am still in Midgar and I would love to see a next gen remake of it using The Luminous engine. If the game fails and doesn't live up to the hype or something then so be it. It won't mattter one bit because the original still exists. I would just really love to see that masterpiece fully realized in hd next gen graphcics. It would be a gigantic undertaking though.
As much as I would like a remake, I do think it would fail to live up to our expectations and would end up tarnishing our memory of this great, legendary game. Was a different time. The best way to do it would be to keep it in its original form, but to just use better character models and up the visuals. Kinda like the pc mods out there.
FF VII isn't really that great. I myself love it, but I know the reasons why I do-nostalgia. The story was confusing. While the whole story of the VII universe is great, the original FFVII failed at telling it. The most important aspect of Cloud is his personality disorder caused by Zack and you don't even get that info, wtf? Without all the spin offs we'd know nothing. The characters aren't that likable, if you'd play it now for the first time you'd find them meh, the only interesting ones were Red, Vincent and Cloud. And the game has many goofy moments, which were funny cause of the bad graphics. If they remade the game for today's consoles with FFXV graphics, they'd have to make the setting serious and take out all the fun scenes. Imagine the Cloud dress up story with all the bodybuilders in the tub with today's graphics....fail
Zack existed in the FFVII universe way before the spin off dealt with it. It just wasn't spoon-fed to the players. And character likability is subjective. All the playable characters in this game are memorable to me while I find more than half of FFVI's cast to be forgettable.
Memorable cause you were exposed to them via movies and spin offs to the extend you can't forget them. And I know Zack was in the game, I didn't say he wasn't. I said his connection to Cloud and the reason for Cloud's behavior wasn't portrayed in a clear way, which is a huge miss in the story.
When it comes to the recent final fantasies, people have stupid expectations. They expect way too goddamn much. There have been plenty of FF remakes in the past, and all of them have been fantastic. Thing is, when people talk about an FF6 remake, how many are imagining an expanded script, voice acting, and new art/sprtite assets?
And when it comes to FF7, how many people are imagining anything else than Advent Children: The Game?
I think there absolutely should be a remake, and I am a purist. So I think there is a right way and a wrong way. the wrong way is making everything look like Advent children. The right way is rendering all of the static backgrounds in real time 3D, remaking all of the character models in the chibi(super deformed(small)) style, all of the battle models in Advent children Style, and all of the serious style cutscenes in Advent Children style. That way the game still has charm, the funny awkward scenes are still funny and not just awkward, and we get a beautiful game!
A remake would be great. They could make the characters more muscular and give the girls bigger breasts. Also get rid of the rubbish battle system and give everyone guns in a first person perspective. Add more explosions and quick time events too.
every fan of final fantasy 1-10x2 should own lost oddessey its what weve always wanted an HD final fantasy game you'll love it i have 2 copies one never opened on the wall and the other over 100hours gameplay/ leveling up its turn based beauty
I'd like a remake of it but I wouldn't want it to be by S-E. If we get a remake of this from them then the next thing you know we would have a terrible battle system and we would only be able to control 1 character.
The original FFVII will not cease to exist if the remake it you know?. I don't understand why so many people think remaking it would cause the original to stop being the masterpiece that it is.
FFVII was a pretty big game. Remaking it by today's graphical standards would be massively expensive, particularly if they made it fully 3D. FFX+ were all rather small games compared to their PS1 counterparts.
I don't know what is the insistence of purists looking for excuses like if a remake could make the original game disappear. Just play the original then and let other people play the new one, if there's ever a new one.
It will never be remade. Everyones expectations would be way to high.
I think Square has made so many bad decisions for so long, they would not make the game people wanted. It would disappoint the fans, embarass the company, and end in disgust.
