Assassin's Creed: Unity Review - Death Never Looked So Pretty - TGC

Chris from The Games Cabin writes: "Ubisoft's insistence that we need a new Assassin's Creed game every year has brought a level of stagnation to the popular open-world stealth adventures, but Assassin's Creed: Unity looks to buck the trend by presenting an entirely fresh approach - but does it live up to the hype? Or has the series fallen on its own blade? Read on for the full Assassin's Creed: Unity review."

Good score but What I want to know is how much the reviewer paid for their copy? Oh go on, do tell.

psvitamanfan3881d ago

£75 on gumtree. Standard edition. Worth every penny.

16bitNutritionist3881d ago

Are most games available on Gumtree before their release date? I want games early :)

psvitamanfan3881d ago

Depends, if you're lucky you'll find someone who managed to get an early copy, either through working at one of the big places that stocks them or more likely the small independat game shops who don't really care for street dates, especially if they can make a few quid extra by selling them a day or two early.

bunt-custardly3880d ago

While expensive, I thought it would have been much higher. Thanks.

RealtorMDandDC3880d ago

Don't understand how you have the game already. I will pull your cards and call your review a farce.

-Where's the game play footage, whats the point of a review without a video? Who reviews a game and puts no supporting video content in 2014.

-Only pictures used are Bull Shots that's been on the internet for ever.

-I will call your review a failed attempt and I think you do not have the game.

-Your review sounds like the information you will read on the back of a game cover with slightly worst grammar.

Given that in the space of, what, 1 week, we have GTA 5 "next gen", Far Cry 4, Dragon Age and this coming out, I wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft ARE in fact pushing the reviews out quickly so people don't realize how close their Far Cry game is as well.

Kind of retarded to have 2 major series come out by the same dev just a week apart.

Scatpants3881d ago

It is imperative that any major releases come out before Black Friday. Any later and you would be throwing away sales. If they released either one too early however they run the risk of people buying games that come out closer to Black friday. That is why late October/early to mid November is packed with games.

GenericNameHere3880d ago

Go read the article. Ubi denied them a review copy, so they had to buy their own.

I'll enjoy this assasins creed as long as there are no sailing or at least very few bits.
Pre ordered mine anyways.

CaptainObvious8783881d ago

But I loved the sailing. Galleon battles were the best part.

Scatpants3881d ago

I liked the sailing also, It made it so the assassin gameplay didn't get to stale since it was broken up by the sailing.

ginsunuva3881d ago

Wait what? All the characters have English accents?

SnotyTheRocket3881d ago

I think just Arno has an English accent.

smolinsk3881d ago

No everyone in the game has an English accent, so stupid

Geekman3880d ago

Wouldn't be surprising. Altair didn't have an accent because Ubisoft thought he sounded "cooler" without it.

skulz73881d ago

Main characters have English accents but all ambient noises (i.e the crowd) will be in French

smolinsk3881d ago

Yea but that is also all

_-EDMIX-_3881d ago

LMFAO! NO! I think some of you need to actually read up on what the French Revolutionary war was. Also from the trailers you can very much hear many of the characters have French accents.

They won't make it heavy because some of use clearly don't speak the damn language.

MIND YOU..I DO! AND I'm ok with the choice to go this route.

Ramisabah3881d ago

Conclusion
Ubisoft set out to re-create the series with Assassin's Creed: Unity and they've managed it with flying colours.

A rich story with an impressive amount of content coupled with some of the best visuals on display thus far make Assassin's Creed: Unity a must buy for any fan of the series, or just the open-world genre in general.

It has its shortcoming, thought they're few and far between, enough so that they're almost negligible.

starchild3881d ago

Sounds fantastic. This is one of the games that looks the best to me this year. I have little doubt that I will enjoy it a lot.

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Shaz from GL writes: "Assassin’s Creed Unity is looked at as one of the worst in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. But playing it nearly 10 years later reveals it may just be the best"

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis946d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde946d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils946d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia946d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack946d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain946d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

staticall946d ago

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

anast946d ago

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
