Mark Brenner: I’ve been a fan of Stardock for ages now. Their game that won me over was Galactic Civilizations 2, and it still occupies a permanent place on my hard drive and in my heart. The same level of detail that they painstakingly put into Galactic Civ is visible even in such an early beta. The unit combat and movement is well done and the huge monsters surprised the hell out of me once I encountered them. Everything is very well rendered and as in Warlock, when you zoom out to a certain distance, the map turns into a cloth map with symbols representing the units and towns. The game promises to have several character customizable character classes and the ability to choose starting spell books like the old Master of Magic game did. The beta is still currently locked on Wizard and you are unable to choose spell books and starting abilities.
