Destiny's Vault Of Glass shattered by just 3 players. Is this the end?

MWEB GameZone writes: "Any massively-multiplayer online fan will tell you that endgame content is crucial for the longevity of an MMO type game. We are prepared to go through the grind to collect epic gear as long as we have the promise of challenging endgame raids. Bungie promised Destiny players an endgame challenge so hard that six of the best won't be able to beat it.

Well, three did, and we predict this means the end for Destiny. In a few months time, there will be an exodus of Guardians.

Destiny is leaving players with a sense of failure. Failure because a victory was handed to them. "

3 Players? :/ I sort of expected this. difficulty is non-existent in the face of determination and skill.

HanCilliers3639d ago (Edited 3639d ago )

I strongly disagree with your statement. Devs need to present proper endgame content, they have to challenge players, especially in an MMO type game. That's why we play it for years on end. It's not that hard, balance gear stats with raid difficulty. Wow, Rift, etc have shown how it's done.

UnwanteDreamz3639d ago (Edited 3639d ago )

Hans how many times have you beat the VoG with 3? When you can accomplish this feat you have a reason to gripe about end level difficulty. I'd like to know how many times you have completed the raid on normal. I found it extremely challenging.

Cryptcuzz3638d ago

Please upload a video of yourself and two others completing the vault of glass, only then can you talk about the end game being too easy.

When others can achieve something never yet thought possible, its easier to talk little of it after the fact. Hey at least you got a few clicks to your blog right?

Conzul3638d ago

I did a normal VoG last night. It took us 4 hours, since 5 of us had done it before. Still challenging & fun. Snagged some raid set gear and the Legendary Sparrow.

They will release more Raids, and harder.
I foresee Raids for teams of 12 and teams of 3. I even see the possibility of a competitive Raid, with two teams vying for the same treasure. Now THAT would be dope / intense.

Lightning Mr Bubbles3639d ago (Edited 3639d ago )

I finally started playing Destiny and I'm really enjoying it, it's a go at your own pace kind of game, it can be easy or hard depending what level you're at and what level the mission, and one of the biggest things about the gameplay is that the AI doesn't follow you outside of a certain zone, so you can choose to be aggressive and go at enemies in close or you can snipe and choose your spots and hide behind cover until you health bar is full again.(of course some enemies have shields that regenerate so you have to be more aggressive against them)

Like an MMO, it rewards you for the work you put and there's a lot to explore. The game looks like Halo, but it actually works more like World of Warcraft and those kind of games.

Anyway, as far as the super hard missions like Vault of Glass, that's not for me I'm not some obsessed super frag guy or anything. Once I pass the main story and I've feel I've had enough of the game I'll just put it down and move on to another game and I'll feel Destiny was a success if I enjoyed most of it, so I don't get this about the end of Destiny because 3 people were able beat the Vault of glass. What does that have to do with my enjoyment of the game? I like to play the game alone, I'm not much of a social gamer.

HanCilliers3639d ago

Really enjoyed reading this perspective. Perhaps the server won't empty after all :) Maybe the time for hard core endgame raiding is past ;)

SMcNu7153639d ago

It's not really THAT hard once you know what you are doing, and quite frankly it's the best part of the game, it would be a shame of you don't try it!

DARK WITNESS3638d ago

I disagree about the reward you for the work you put in part.. it gives you a gift now and then just for playing.

There is no reward for hard work thanks to the horrible RNG.

I did the vault of glass last night in one run. I am a level 29. I got nothing but shards for my reward.

After the effort put in I can't say I felt rewarded. It's just a game of chance. the only effort you put in is time. you have just as much chance of being rewarded with an exotic from Vault as you do from PVP or doing a strike, or just opening a random chest. Can't really say that is rewarding in anyway.

it may be fairer for people who don't always play the vault or people who only play pvp ,but it an't rewarding.

Lightning Mr Bubbles3638d ago (Edited 3638d ago )

Maybe the server will indeed get empty, I don't know. My opinion has nothing to do with what other people think, or why they play the game. I'm just saying I'm more of a single player type of gamer and so far Destiny can be a pretty enjoyable game for single player also.

I'm more into games like Final Fantasy, The Last of Us, Dark Souls or Grand Theft Auto, you know single player adventures, but I'm probably the minority, most of Destiny's players are probably people who like Halo and Call of Duty games.

@DARK WITNESS

I just mean it rewards you with experience points, the more you play the more you level up, you get more abilities and you can use better armor and weapons of your choosing, so you can play the game in your own unique way, for me that's enough.

And if you're level 29, you pretty much already beat the game and played for a lot of hours, and you must of liked it if you played it that long. I mean what else do want from a game? You beat the game so move on. When I beat Final Fantasy X, it took like 70 hours and it was great but it was over and I never played it again. It was a great game, but I finished it?? What else would I want?

LOL, I guess I'm just a different breed of gamer than most of the online frag boys playing Destiny.

DARK WITNESS3638d ago (Edited 3638d ago )

That kind of highlights my point.

I am a level 29 but not so much cos of the hours I put in.

I have friends who have played more hours then me but are stuck at 27/28.

I just got lucky in that the first time I did the raid I got part of the raid gear which has pushed me up to 29. Other people have completed it more times then me, but have not had any raid gear drops, so they have not got past 28.

I have enjoyed some elements of it/ if I didn't I would not have got past 10 I think.

Am_Ryder3638d ago

I loved this post - but you're in for a nasty surprise, Bubbles.

Just like you, I took it at my own pace and enjoyed it for what it was and got immersed in it.

Then after a few hours, when it felt like it was just getting going, the story ended. That was it. There's no second act- there's barely even a first act. Destiny basically doesn't have any content for players like you and I- the amount of content it does have is way, way less than there should be.

If you want to get your money's worth/have the best time you can with it, you better start grinding to get up to level 26 or 27 for the Raids... Though the grinding itself can be dang fun.

KnightRobby3639d ago

Why is a difficult end-game so important? I just think the game is missing a ton of content reserved for DLC, obviously. I think all games need to provide multiple difficulty settings. Some of us like the extreme challenge, others don't. Dying a billion times while shooting an enemy that takes a ridiculous amount of damage does not sound like fun. I think it is obvious now that the 6 veterans that left BUngie during the development of Destiny had more influence than we all initially thought.

The game is still a blast in its own way, especially in PVP and some strikes. But to make the Raids so stupidly difficult and hard to access (no matchmaking) is not good game design.

Sillicur3638d ago

Difficult end-game is important for a long game life. The more difficulty creates longevity in a game, as players stive week after week to progress a little further.

joab7773638d ago

This is common for mmo's. A raid is released. It takes time to beat and there the best begin tackling it with less ppl. It's nothing new.

And Destiny will live or die by its content and whether they add the social features ppl want. For one, my only real gripe, make the gear and content consistent. Don't create all this gear and then have raid gear be all that levels to 30. Or allow us to customize the looks w a vanity system.

And don't release content like Queens Wrath again. U get the same 2 pieces of armor that can't be broken down. U get no rep for the missions, and many of the bounties u can't even do. And the rewards are what? A shader and emblem. Even the iron banner has gear that levels to 27. NO ONE WILL USE IT!!!!

Wait....how did they open up the portals in the final boss..doesn't the final boss send the farthest three players in the portal automatically

HanCilliers3639d ago

They used the Sun Singer’s Resurrection

OmegaShen3639d ago

Level 30's as for the final boss, I call bs.

BlackWolf123638d ago

They used SunSingers Resurrection ability to re-open the portal.

OmegaShen3638d ago

Ok, its comes in handle.

lord zaid3639d ago

Not too surprising. There will always be these gamer outliers that just crush games. Look at some of these speed runs we see in gaming. Some people just have skills, either through natural talent or hardwork.

Totally unsurprised by this.

HanCilliers3639d ago

Again I disagree, as an MMORPG player I can tell you it's not suppose to be this easy. Ask any vanilla WoW player just how hard endgame raiding is suppose to be. You are only suppose to beat raids when your gear, team combination and starts are perfect.

NovusTerminus3639d ago

It's not like this is a normal thing, it's the first raid. And it took the first players 13 hours to beat it. Just because someone can, doesn't mean the mission is as easy as they make it seem.

Lawboy23639d ago

@ lord me

Yes at the beginning it was taking ppl a while to beat but I'd say after a week ppl were beating in in under 2 hours and this is fairly common now...this is on normal mode ofcourse

UnwanteDreamz3639d ago

Again Hans how many times have you done it? Please post a vid showing us how easy it is. To hear you talk anyone can do it. So lets see it.

rainslacker3638d ago

To put that in perspective...Wow became more popular when raids were a little more forgiving, and everyone could get into end game content without the massive grind to make everything perfect.

Of course...blizzard has taken it too far now IMO, but that's a different matter.

Gh05t3638d ago (Edited 3638d ago )

1: The person recording has completed the raid 39 times before this.
2: The gear used was probably about as perfect as they could get.
3: The team worked pretty well together.

"You are only suppose to beat raids when your gear, team combination and starts are perfect."

Check, Check, Check...

I for one have only done about half the raid. Its not for me. I don't like how it feels like the same thing over and over but to say its too easy is a bit of a stretch and even if it is these are the exceptions not the rule.

there's also tricks and what not to go along with it that can help players bypass certain challenges laid out by developers completely as well.

So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses

Reaper22_21d ago

Yea, but they're still 100 times more wealthy than Sony. I would say it worked out well.

Gamingsince198120d ago

Xbox is dead all that money doesn't help.

Hypertension14020d ago

What has work out well? It sure as hell had nothing to do with Xbox.

andy8520d ago

That isn't because of Xbox though. This is a gaming page, not an I get supplemented by father Windows page

Bathyj20d ago

Microsoft's money has nothing to do with Xbox.
Xbox is a money pit to them they would love to ditch but are after some ROI first.

Let's face it, Xbox is like a red headed stepchild that steals from you to buy drugs.

Hofstaderman20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

MIicrosoft is NOT XBOX. The current situation illustrates this. And Microsoft wants its ROI.

@Bathyj and daddy Satya has just force admitted Phil to rehab.

gold_drake20d ago

you know why MS has so much money, and it aint cause of the gaming xbox branch.

so lets not kid ourselves.

PhillyDonJawn20d ago

Xbox was shown to be more profitable than ps

jznrpg20d ago

@PhillyDownJawn not more profitable. More revenue with ABK acquisition but them going multiplat shows they are not making much profit

ocelot0720d ago

That's great for Xbox gamers ain't it that Microsoft are more wealthy than Sony. Is that really a argument use are using now lol?

Imagine me in my job. Arguing with a fellow security guard at another company. Hahah well the company I work for is worth £800m the one you work for is only work £600m!

ZoboomafooFan20d ago

Microsoft has succeeded in spite of the Xbox brand, not because of it

Knightofelemia20d ago

Microsoft may have more money but Sony has the talented studios and the games to back up those studios.

Plus turning down Marvel too. Spiderman is only exclusive to Playstation because of that

Hedstrom20d ago

Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!

XBManiac20d ago

More in the 1.000 million now.

gold_drake20d ago

another Interview?

how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol

Futureshark20d ago

Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.

However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.

How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.

"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"

Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

DarXyde20d ago

Honestly, with that kind of track record, you can't convince me Spencer hasn't eaten it from the back in the name of self preservation. Probably unwashed...and at least twice.

That aside, my interpretation of everything here is Xbox has been mismanaged a bit too much and Nadella came down from his throne. The way it is now, I don't believe for a minute the multiplatform move was Spencer's idea. I don't even think the acquisitions was Spencer's work. At this point, I reckon he's got as much power in his role as Hunter Biden at a Ukrainian energy company.

DivineHand12520d ago

You can never tell how things will turn out if he had said yes to those games. Xbox already has access to some great IPs, however, they hardly do anything with them or fail to deliver. It's also possible their presentation wasn't good at the time, and they made sure the next presentation was better.

I believe that part of being successful is releasing things in the right place at the right time.

Many major corporations have a story similar to passing on successful business ideas. Let us look at Sony Pictures for example. Back when Marvel went bankrupt, they had the opportunity to buy the entire Marvel for only $25 Million but turned them down. An unnamed big shot at Sony reportedly claimed that “nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters,”. They ended up taking Spiderman for $10 Million instead.

https://www.avclub.com/sony...

Fast forward to today, we can see what the Marvel brand has done for Disney. Is it possible the same success would have been possible had Sony acquired those IPs. We can't say that for sure and it is possible most of those IPs that are successful today may not have been used.

Typically the best games of each year say otherwise.

Christopher89d ago

Alan Wake 2, BG3, Tears of the Kingdom, Elden Ring, GoW Ragnarok, Hades, Returnal, Fallout 4, Dishonored, It Takes Two, Untitled Goose Game, Breath of the Wild, both of The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Sekiro, Psychonauts 2, Control, Celeste, Super Mario Odyssey, Bloodborne, The Outer Wilds, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Cocoon, The Dredge, and more and more and more.

Up against Overwatch and Destiny as far as critical acclaim and recognition as 'better' for players.

And, let me be honest, even 'for developers' is a lie. Want to know why? Because it's only good for people who can pump out graphics constantly and not overall quest designers, coders, engine devs, etc.

What this guy means is "we can give a lot of cosmetic content to players, who we think players like more because people spend money on it, and it's best for us because we don't have to pay for a full team to create a new game and just the people to pump out new graphics from one season to another." In no way is his comment a true reflection of what is 'better for players' let alone 'better for the industry stability over longer periods of time.'

This is more investor mindset focusing on maximizing profits by getting consumers to buy less for more while they spend less making it. That's it.

You know what's best for players? Newer, better, and more content that is good and not just cosmetic. Live service isn't that unless you pay $60 a year to them to add more for it (like Destiny and CoD do). Then you might get some improvements and new content. Even then? Not usually.

just_looken88d ago

In terms of player feedback/awards yes but the list you made are all nothing in terms of profit.

Call of duty mobile alone laughs at that list that game is a billion dollar money making machine.

Toss in your apex/mmo/rivals/fortnight/robl ox/minecraft monoploy go or back to console with elder scrolls fallout 76.

Basically there is alot more live service style games that hit or go above the billion dollar mark than your list and that is what the people at top want cold hard cash. Heck alot fo them make a billion + a year

Gta 5 single player profit vs gtao profit as a example now that ps5/series has gtao as a free standalone with gta + there printing cash like its going out of style over there.

Christopher88d ago (Edited 88d ago )

Being more profitable isn't better for the consumer or developers. That's better for executives in suits.

just_looken88d ago

@Christopher

Umm exactly who do you think pay's the bill's and hands out the games budgets?

They have 0 care about a games award's/feedback its all profit driven some use to care like sony back in the day now its profit first.

0 likes shows how many are still on copium thinking the big publishers care about them

aaronaton89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

Well the Poll on the website is suggesting he is massively wrong and out of touch.

Inverno89d ago

I'll always think the concept is awesome. Back during the PS3 era I pictured a Spider-Man game that would be the traditional open world swinging playground that they typically are but every comic issue would be turned into dlc. It'd be the entirety of the Amazing line, 2 to 3 issues at a time, turnt to dlc until the entire Amazing line is told in form of a game. That concept eventually made it to the industry and they have consistently fk'd it up with every game that has been made as a "service".

jznrpg89d ago

There is nothing like sitting down , popping in a great single player game and blocking out the world.
