5 Places the 'Destiny' Expansions Could Take Us

Destiny launched with a ton of content, from Story missions to co-op Strikes, open world Patrols and now grueling Raids. But Bungie have made a ten year commitment to the game and the franchise, promising regular content updates and DLC packs. There is quite a lot to do already, but there are obvious gaps in the game world and the lore where more could be added – inaccessible areas, missing planets etc.

Here are just a few places that Destiny's first two expansions – Expansion I: The Dark Below (due in December) and Expansion II: House of Wolves – could take us.

I wish they would make each planet really huge. One planet could easily have bigger maps to explore. Those are huge planets after all.

Mikelarry3533d ago (Edited 3533d ago )

i know, i was expecting really vast "populated" worlds in destiny.

if what is currently on offer was only on the ps3 and 360 i could understand that they couldn't achieve this on old hardware but these devs have all that power with current gen and we get barren lands and rinse and repeat missions.

it really drives me insane because when current gen was revealed most of this devs were all claiming that the old tricks will not be used anymore and how they now have "blank slate" to achieve some amazing new things with the tech current gen offers.

Dontworrybhappy3532d ago (Edited 3532d ago )

That's always PR speak. We are nowhere close to being able to go out "there". My hope lies with No Man's Sky. But time has taught me being skeptical will save your ass from getting burned.

DivoJones3532d ago

I noticed the other day when free-roaming Earth (trying to find the open-world Fallen Walkers for the bounty) that it was impressively large. So on one hand I can see where they're coming from in being surprised at the backlash of game 'size'. But on the other hand, most of that space is empty and is recycled into missions.

So it's not really the size of the map that is an issue in my opinion, but how it's used/wasted.

Haven't played in 4-5 days. Lost my desire to.

I think Destiny may take me BACK to Gamestop to trade this in towards Forza 2 or Smash Brothers.

Hellsvacancy3533d ago

Jupiter has 67 moons, think of all the money Activision could make

ScorpiusX3533d ago

Yeah another planet to go kill a bunch of grunts , wizards , elites and finally a few big bosses. Yes how cool.

cr33ping_death3532d ago

isnt that every game? new dlc location to do exactly what you were doing in the previous locaton only with newer toys?

LazyGoron3533d ago

Each expansion should do:
1) Add more playable areas to current planets (I.E. have a Earth map in say, the middle of a forest. Doesn't have to be connected to Old Russia but it should be able to be chosen when you select Earth)

2) Add new planets to explore that include 5-10 hrs of story content at a minimum

3) To coincide with 1 and 2, add a multitude of bounties (100+), gear, weapons, emblems, shaders (maybe custom shader option)

4) Add new strikes to existing planets and add strikes along with the new planets

5) New class options would be nice each update or so, maybe add a 4th and 5th option over time

6) Revamp the levels of area to coincide with the levels of people around the area (I.E. if there's a 22, 15, 28, 7 around the area, the enemies are level 18)

7)MOST WANTED - eventually, eventually, add space battles/space maps, I mean literally fighting in space with ships and your regular weapons... imagine a map on a huge blown up space station where you're bounding around with 0 gravity, would be fun.

pwnsause_returns3533d ago

To add more on #7, leveling up your ship just like how you level up your weapons and customizing their liveries

ShowGun9013533d ago

likelihood of each of your suggestions actually being included in destiny DLC (10 most likely, 0 least likely):

1: 7 (could happen, but i think they'll focus on more planets)
2: 9 (this will likely be the meat & potatoes of each expansion)
3: 10 (this is easy to add and will be included in the expansions im sure)
4: 9 (you can tell where they're going to add stuff by exploring the map. hmm... whats with this weird dead-end? LOL)
5: 3 (i think this would be really hard to balance for the crucible, doesn't mean it won't happen for sure though... perhaps more likely will be new sub-classes!)
6: 4 (its not the way they envisioned the game the first time, i think they'll keep it as-is...)
7: 1 (i just don't see them doing that LOL)

COMPLETE RUMOR WARNING!!!

i was talking to a dude online (totally legit, right? LOL!) who's buddies with a gamestop manager. when the manager went to their little manager-get-together (where they check out unreleased stuff), he said the new destiny expansions will feature multiple new planets... take this with a HUGE helping of salt! hope its true though!

LordMaim3532d ago

7: 1 (i just don't see them doing that LOL)

@ShowGun901: Hey, you never know. They added it to Star Wars Galaxies.

Rivitur3533d ago

They sure as hell won't take me to the store to buy destiny I'll tell you that much.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter364d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood364d ago (Edited 364d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro364d ago (Edited 364d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881364d ago (Edited 364d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell364d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig364d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast364d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername364d ago (Edited 364d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g364d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka364d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai515d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface514d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard512d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
