Destiny review: It's a small world after all [SideQuesting]

Rexly Penaflorida II of SideQuesting writes:

"Destiny follows a main story, but after those missions, your character will only get better if you put enough time and effort into improving it through a series of PvP matches, challenges, and special events, all of which become extremely repetitive."

Or not. Though I will say that mmos, rng and me do not mix at all.

Of the 10 purple engrams I have got, 0 have been purple. And I've been stuck on level 23 for 3 days b/c nothing had higher light level. No reflection on the game, as many do get them. It's me and I had the same results in DCUO and FF14...lol!

Bryan7portugal3506d ago

Loot system sucks. Needs more weapons and armor like borderlands instead of being a halo generic with mmo element. This way everyone has more chances to get good items that increase their light and unique look. Having cool weapons and all. Even have an option to customize the weapon look.

Maxor3506d ago

The mechanic where purple Engrams usually resulting in blues is absolutely soul crushing.

DanteVFenris6663506d ago (Edited 3506d ago )

Yea that's because they are obviously lower budget then most mmos. So they don't have the content there so they make the grind longer with moves like that

DanteVFenris6663506d ago (Edited 3506d ago )

That's the difference between the hardcore and casual. Dcuo I'm a couple points from top gear level. And wow I was too. Almost every mmo I've played. In every game you grind in some way. You just choose your grind. I prefer to grind and have something to show for it. Ect against players. Where I can woop ass after all the hard work. Though destiny doesn't offer that as pvp is pretty balanced despite level differences. Though higher levels definitely do have an advantage it's not dcuo. Where I can kill a weak level in 1 punch and they can't kill me no matter how hard they tried.

Do dailys collect the coins and buy the legendary from store... problem solved.

ramiuk13506d ago

yeah loot system is crap.
the amount of blues i have got and they been greens,i even had a few purples that turned out to be anything but purple.
nothing for defeating the bigger bosses is also stupid.

plus in PVP(crucible) the loot is totally random to the point the worst person gets 2 items and others get nothing.

but regarding strikes if u kill a end boss u should get soemthing

Bryan7portugal3505d ago

Yea. Freaking working your a** off to kill spider tank or the moon boss is a b*tch and I get crap for all that work. Get a rare engram n turns uncommon. So blown.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter333d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell332d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig333d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast333d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g333d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka333d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai484d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface483d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard480d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
