EA looking into voice command for future C&C games

EA may incorporate voice command mechanics into its future console RTS games, if Ubisoft's EndWar proves a success.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath associate producer Jim Vessella said that "all console RTS developers are working together and trying to borrow ideas from each other".

He continued: "I am very excited to see how well that voice command works for the RTS genre. I would actually say that we'll probably see how they do and try and investigate if utilising the voice command is also a good advantage for our future games too. We're all learning here which is the cool thing about the time that we're in. All the developers for console RTS are working together and trying to borrow ideas from each other."

History of Real-Time Strategy: The Downfall (2004 - 2010)

VGChatz's Taneli Palola: "There's no question that during these years the overall popularity of the genre took a significant hit, as most games within it specialized even further by adding new elements from other types of games into their gameplay loops and consequently became increasingly niche as the years wore on.

However, this doesn't in any way mean that the period was devoid of great games. Quite the contrary, in fact. Arguably some of the greatest RTS titles ever made came out around this time, and much of this was because many developers were increasingly familiar and comfortable with adding new twists and gameplay elements to the familiar formula. As such, even when the genre's popularity dwindled, many studios were still creating excellent and groundbreaking titles almost every year, just for a smaller audience than in years past."

those were fun years red alert star craft command and conquer well when westwood studio made good games before EA brought them like bioware...

Vegamyster2228d ago

Aside from C&C 4, the other C&C's from EA were all good/great. The genre nose dived once Moba's rose in popularity, even Petroglyph Games (ex-Westwood employees) haven't had a hit since Star Wars: Empire at War (2006), all there games got abandoned after launch.

Top 10 Worst Video Game Sequels

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "A while ago we counted down the very best video game sequels of all time and so we decided to flip the table and look at the very worst sequels ever made. Now we’re not specifically looking at bad sequels to bad games, that would be boring, instead we’re looking at sequels that took what was present in a good game and completely wrecked it. These 10 games started out by building up our hype to extreme levels only to shatter our dreams and break out hearts once we got our hands on them and so we’re calling these out as the worst sequels ever made."

Dragon age 2 was not a bad game, just a terrible sequel if that makes any sense. Should have been it's own IP.

I loved Dragon Age II. I even got the platinum trophy for it. That was the very first medieval themed fantasy RPG that I enjoyed aside from an Ultima game I played in the early 90's at a cousins house.

Fist4achin2654d ago

Not that it was a bad game, just not a fair successor to DAO.

NapalmSanctuary2654d ago

Surely Twisted Metal 3&4 have earned a place on this list.

Lord of Shadows 2 was one that left me scratching my head because I loved the first one! Red Faction Armageddon was another one that I still wonder why they didn't just give us something more like Guerrilla.
