Eurogamer: Editor's Blog: About The Destiny Review

Eurogamer: Hello! As you may already have seen elsewhere, we in the press have had no prior access to Bungie's online shooter Destiny before its global launch date tomorrow. There was no review event, and though review copies have been sent out, they're useless until the servers are turned on.

As a result, we won't have a review to share with you today or tomorrow. And please bear with us, because we want to test the game thoroughly before publishing our verdict. How long our review will take exactly, we're not sure - that will become apparent as we play the game this week. But we're not going to rush it.

THIS is how reviews should be handled. Those reviews that get posted tomorrow or the day after will be completely invalid as the servers are just about to go up today. No one should be out there reviewing a game they had little to no time with.

Lol @ the disagrees.. this is an MMO, any credible review site wouldn't even dream of reviewing an MMO in it's first week of launch. While Destiny isn't going to be such a time sink, I think it would be pretty unprofessional to publish a review before people have a proper chance to explore Vault of Glass or whatever it's called which means we shouldn't be seeing reviews until some time next week at the earliest.

Eonjay3122d ago

Also, its not that serious. Reviews are coming today. Its coming today. I played the beta and I enjoyed it so while some are going to have a baby over this, reviews for something I already tried are futile. I'm gonna go play now lol.

this how it should bee for all games, it should be a level playing field for all

pre-release copies are one of the big causes of corruption in the gaming media, it made them feel empowered and gave them a "holier than thou" attitude, heck many of them don't even know how to play.

this is complete crap!!!! if this was EA, or an EA title trying to pull off this crap (hold off turning on servers for reviewers until the launch date), it would get MURDERED by these so-called "journalists".... they need to let folks review it so they'll know exactly what the hell they're buying.. gamers are so damn fickle these days to the point where its pathetic..

I am sure most of the gaming sites will still rush to get their reviews up first to direct the traffic to their sites.

Massively Multiplayer Online

yes it is

Agree, i dont know where the idea of it being an mmo even came from. It shares some traits but from what i can tell you are never in 1 big world with 100s of players. Other than the hub area i only ever saw 3 people at a time in game?

You can quite easily tell what you think of a game within the first few hours of playing it...

Let me guess you think a reviewer needs to ding 20 and complete all of the content to give an accurate opinion?

well....WRONG

If the journey there is not fun or has problems what was the point in the game in the first place?

@aiBreeze

You can tell what you think of a game within the first few hours yes, the mechanics are presented, the controls are explained and the base gameplay style has sunk in.

You can also see the general direction of the plot and see overall what the game is like.

A reviewer should complete a game but if they find the game to be a grind with no real merit behind getting to the end content why should they play it? that is a bad game.

Kotaku? that is cute. Troll harder.

pompombrum3122d ago

So by your logic it's okay to spend a few hours on a game and post a review? I see a bright future for you at Kotaku.

"Let me guess you think a reviewer needs to ding 20 and complete all of the content to give an accurate opinion?"

Just like movies / books reviewer where you MUST watch the movie / read the book until the end to judge if the movie / book really good or not.

So yeah, video game reviewers are no different. First, they MUST finish their games before they reviewed it. If they didn't finish it first than HOW the fuck they can get the full pros and cons and give accurate info to their readers???

And that is one of the biggest problem for video games reviewer this day. I've seen the mentality to "put the review first before anyone do it so we can get the biggest click" while the reviewer only play a couple of hours are very disgusting.

That's why i rarely trust video game reviewer this days until i get my hands on the game and finished it by myself.

I think a month or so for a Destiny review is good.Given the amount of things that you can do in it.

Palitera3122d ago

Like playing in the 10 MP maps a thousand times?
Or playing on the same 5 PVE maps?
Yay!!! Let's praise marketing!

The "amount of things" in the game is clearly one of the reasons why they delayed the reviews to after the release.

this is BULLSHIT!! if this was EA, or an EA title trying to pull off this crap, it would get MURDERED by these so-called "journalists".... they need to let folks review it so they'll know exactly what the hell they're buying..

KwietStorm_BLM3122d ago

So you think they paid them to not review it? lol

Palitera3122d ago

No, they just made it impossible.

Rhaigun3122d ago

I have an idea. Rent it and make up your own mind.

lameguy3122d ago (Edited 3122d ago )

Only about 2 days are needed. The first 10h day will allow them to get through the entire campaign. The second day they can get a feel for strikes, public events, and multiplayer. I mean you play one strike, you've basically played them all.

Beyond that you have the (artificially) longer raids, but those are just like strikes except with cheap enemy tactics, mechanics, and artificial matchmaking constraints over top of it.

bjmartynhak3122d ago

Well, they already got some clicks with it
