Now that Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has a confirmed release date, we decided to take a look back at the original, The Binding of Isaac, to see what made the game such a commercial and critical success, as well as to talk about what we're hoping to see from Rebirth.
The Binding of Isaac is (very) loosely based on the bible story of the same name, in which Abraham is commanded by God to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, as a test of his faith. The game begins with a brief cutscene in which Isaac’s mother hears voices from heaven telling her that Isaac has been corrupted by sin, and she must kill him in order to cleanse the house. Isaac flees into the basement, and, initially armed only with his tears, must progress through dungeons below his house. As the game progresses, Isaac can collect various items and collectibles to help him grow stronger, so that he can eventually stop his mother.
The online multiplayer beta for The Binding of Isaac is offline until further notice after someone data-mined the latest build.
