Carl Williams writes, "Games that fall in either the Metal Gear Solid or the Metroidvania realm are few and far between, sadly. Games that fall into both categories at once though are even more rare. CounterSpy plans on doing just that, one foot in the Metal Gear Solid realm and the other in the Metroidvania style of gaming. Graphically, we are dealing with a game that is almost cell shaded but not quite, there is more detail than most of the games that stomp out and laud that graphic style at gamers."
CounterSpy from Dynamighty was an outstanding PlayStation stealth action game with a silly alt-history Cold War. It has been completely forgotten. Why?
I loved this game! Played on PS4 and Vita (for the platinum), art style and gameplay were incredible. I think it was also part of PS+. A cool proc generated stealth game!
I still play this game, mostly on the Vita but also on the PS4. Was sad when the servers were turned off to play against other player's progress. It still is a great game.
Wow, i never heard of this game but it looks fantastic. Going to have to put this on the list of games to get.
VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "The stealth genre is one that some would argue doesn’t even exist – many titles include stealth elements, but actually fit into one of a number of other genres like action, platformer, or third-person shooter. Ever since the breakout success of the Metal Gear franchise (in particular Metal Gear Solid), though, the genre seems on much more stable footing and it demonstrated that you can have a veritable blockbuster on your hands relying only on stealth mechanics as the main gameplay element.
In recent years we’ve seen other things like Assassin’s Creed, Hitman and Splinter Cell continue to push the genre forward, although it still has somewhat limited appeal. Thankfully, the Vita has a healthy selection of stealth games available (and even more with backwards-compatibility), meaning if you’re looking to do some sneaking on the go then you’ll be well served with the console."
