I can't believe this guy became so famous, he's like the Justin Bieber of gaming. But is deactivating comments really newsworthy?

-Foxtrot3516d ago

I know right, people keep saying if you call him you are "jealous" of him like what fangirls say when you call someone like Justin Bieber but to be honest if a guy like PewDiePie was being paid 4 million a year for playing video games while screaming into a mic, making jokes about your mother/grandmother, rape jokes among many other immature, not funny things then I'm sorry but you would be a little jealous because someone like him doesn't deserve it. Meanwhile the rest of us have to work our arses off just to barley afford our main bills....actual hard work which I bet this idiot knows nothing about.

I remember the VGX last year when they were just about to show Dying Light and I was so hyped for the gameplay then he popped up and was doing the walkthrough....I was like "NOPE...DONE".

LightDiego3516d ago

4 millions a year, really? That's....i don't know what to say.

Codewow3515d ago

Saying someone doesn't deserve what they have worked towards is stupid. We would all think differently if it were us. I'm not trying to defend him like a 'Bro' would, because I in fact, hate him too. I am just trying to put things in perspective. He has a lot to deal with, or he used to before reaching the 30mil mark, when he didn't have the money to hire people to edit for him.

-Foxtrot3515d ago

@Codewow

How is it stupid, he "worked" towards that....mate that's not work, that's acting like a immature kid on a Youtube video.

Dontworrybhappy3514d ago (Edited 3514d ago )

Yea don't remember all the charity's he has donated to with his good fortune or anything.
No shit Fox, and guess what? He does donate. Im not saying he deserves as many subs as he has, but atleast he helps people.

-Foxtrot3514d ago

@Dontworrybhappy

No offence but for a guy who's earned his wealth from doing very little I think he bloody should give some to charity

Tony-Red-Grave3514d ago

" if a guy like PewDiePie was being paid 4 million a year for playing video games while screaming into a mic, making jokes about your mother/grandmother, rape jokes among many other immature, not funny things then I'm sorry but you would be a little jealous because someone like him doesn't deserve it."

You need to get off that high-horse, not you nor anyone should be talking about what someone "deserves". He works in his own way to make content for people who want to watch it. What people watch/like is their own business and while having an opinion is fine; talking down to people for doing things their own way or enjoying said content makes you out to look like a "jerk".

On that note, I don't actually watch his stuff because it's clearly not something I like to watch. If I need to watch lets plays i'll general watch "two best friends play" or "yovidegames (maximillian_dood)" .

P.S doing lets plays while providing entertain isn't easy nor is it cheap. So, the next time you say
"Meanwhile the rest of us have to work our arses off just to barley afford our main bills....actual hard work which I bet this idiot knows nothing about."

I recommend you actually take a moment to hear from people who have been doing this for awhile just how hard it can be.

-Foxtrot3514d ago

@Tony-Red-Grave

Oh please

You basically get a screen capturing software, play the game, talk over it and edit what you need to. That's what he did before he got people to do his editing for him, it's much easier then working an 8-9 hour shift where you are on the move all the time.

TheWackyMan3514d ago

You may be upset that pewdiepie is famous, but at least he did something to actually earn that fame unlike the kardashians or Paris hilton. He knew what appealed to people and recorded and edited videos every day, while also making sure what he was doing wasn't awkward or not funny to the type demographic he was aiming for.

Th4Freak3514d ago

@-Foxtrot Still, hes working, easier or not that other jobs its still a job.

You shouldn't be so close minded, I mean, not long ago modeling, skateboarding, DJ and professional gaming were not considered jobs because of the same reasons that you're talking about.

Even though Pewdiepie is annoying, immature and all that, he's earning his money in a fair way, hes taking advantage over a system (Youtube) and he's not harming others while doing it like Zoe Quinn.

aaron58293514d ago

i subbed his channel, but i rarely watch his videos. But fox, why not you do it? earning 4 mil a year by doing this "stupid" thing is better than working your ass off, dont you think? then tell me how easy is it to get to his "status"...

He did somewhat made the PS3 become popular to his 30 million subs mostly teenagers because I believe its the only video game console he played on before he played the PS4.

He gave massive exposure to:
Shadow of the Colossus
Heavy Rain
The Last of Us
Dark Souls
Journey
Infamous Second Son
Silent Hills PT

to say a few

Give credit where credit is due people.

InsaneGam3r3516d ago

I hate PewDiePie. PROFIST!!!

GeofferyPeterson3514d ago (Edited 3514d ago )

Clickbait. Oh and BTW it's "BROFIST". You sound like a drunk German.

scark923516d ago

How he is the most subbed person on YouTube is beyond me..

NarooN3514d ago

Shows a lot about the intelligence and sensibilities of the audience, doesn't it?

SegaGamer3514d ago

That is Youtube for you, home to the stupid.

Tony-Red-Grave3514d ago

It's because his content(influence?) extends beyond the U.S. I'd recommend watching the game theory video on it your free to disagree if it sounds far fetched.

Brix903514d ago

A lot of kids on YouTube reason why Minecraft is probably the most watched game weekly.

ion6663514d ago

There soo many minecraft walkthrough players That it blocks real gaming news That I would like to see. And its basically a game about nothing. I asked one guy why was it so good to him. He said it was relaxing....?. playing with virtual legos, Right? Minecraft is the most bland mondane game ever created. At least tetris has a objective.

Baka-akaB3514d ago (Edited 3514d ago )

I dont have to care much , i just dont watch him beyond the initial curiosity of "WTF he was" a year ago .

Sure he'll pop up as a surprise in a few videos , to my dissmay .. but remains fairly avoidable . More so than his annoying mainstream music counterparts , wich you wont avoid in car radios blasts or in shops and malls .

SpiralTear3514d ago

He's turning off the comments because he didn't communicate and develop his fanbase when he had the chance. When you're starting out, the first thing you want to do after posting a video is reply to the comments. Thank those who praise you, laugh off those who troll you, and talk to those who give you legit criticism. That "ignore the comments" stuff is garbage; you WANT to develop the comment section properly. That way comment sections don't start becoming angry cesspools.

But he's so popular now that there are too many comments and fans to approach. There's no way he can talk to all of them, so he has to settle with whatever he has, which is leading him to just turn off the comments entirely.

I think that's pretty dumb, censoring the good just to quell the bad, especially considering that this entire thing could've been avoided had he just developed his fanbase more directly.

Baka-akaB3514d ago

I dont believe he'd have been able to monitor and quell trolls with such an amount of followers anyway . It has just grown too much . Still who cares he should let them run rampants , and avert his eyes from comments if he minds

SpiralTear3514d ago

I know. There are way too many people to communicate with at this point, but he had his chance to do that. He missed it and now he's trying to hide that mess by censoring everyone.

That's no way to support a fanbase. Silencing your supporters is a terrible idea. You're basically saying that the trolls deserve more attention than the fans, because you're taking more action in response to them instead of the people who actually like you.

ShowGun9013514d ago

...when he exploded from 50,000 followers to over a million, he probably lost all actual control over his flock. same with politics, there will always be loonies you cant control in your own camp. (perhaps even doing exactly opposite what you'd like them to do)

secondly, he might be silencing the comments because of fights and fanboys, rather than critisism... if it was just critisism, i'd think he would have done something about it earlier. if OUR comment section is anything to go by, it usually devolves pretty quickly, and maybe he doesn't wanna deal with that... i know if I made gaming vids, i wouldn't want almost ANY of the people from this site spreading pollution on my page... IMO

SpiralTear3514d ago

Okay, firstly, there's no way he shot up to popularity that fast. I know that internet time is much faster than real-world time, but everyone starts somewhere. The second he started seeing himself getting somewhat popular, he should've started interacting, and not just with his fans. If people are being idiots in the comments, you don't just ignore them. They'll just keep being idiots.

And that's still no reason to silence your fans. They've stuck by you and if they feel upset by trolls and idiots, they should do exactly what he SHOULD'VE done: shake it up, humor it out, and just push a healthier comment section. Be active to make things better.

Censoring your comments is just an excuse to avoid actively pursuing a better system. Simply hiding something is much less effective than changing something.

Baka-akaB3514d ago (Edited 3514d ago )

Actually he kinda did explode like that , word to mouth is quick on the net , and when sites began mentioning him , it snowballed . let's not forget he was also covering hugely popular steam and indie horror stuff . And while i'll agree that he could have interacted with his fans more .... i still dont think there is any way he could quell , police or control such a flock . Much like it's impossible to mod a twitch's chat

You dont see any moderation on any popstar's youtube page either , with even mostly viewvers fighting each others

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.
