Metro: Redux Will Look Better On PC Than On PS4/Xbox One, Borderlands: The Prequel Supports PhysX

Great news coming from Gamescom for PC fans as Metro: Redux will look better on PC than on current-gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One). Not only that, but the new Borderlands game will come with specific Nvidia-accelerated PhysX effects, like its predecessor.

Will it look better on my gt 450 compared to my ps4 ? Probably not.

Both quotes in the article mention high-end Nvidia cards. Headlines can't contain every detail, just enough to capture your interest.

That said, while I'm happy that these features will be available seeing as I'm using a GTX 580 currently (after 4 years of faithful service it will be retired for the 880 this winter anyway), I'm still unsure why developers refuse to use DX compute to create equivalent physics simulations instead of opting for the Nvidia specific PhysX solution. Perhaps these solutions come out of the box with Gameworks and require very little development time to implement, but it seems so odd to leave AMD users out in the cold when these features are quite possible on their GPUs as well without proprietary libraries.

Well that is a given.

But for those who can afford current hardware, and believe me there are a lot, they can enjoy this game in better visual fidelity.

I have a very capable card, but will soon upgrade to play games at their highest settings. Typically upgrade components every 2-3 years.

Even friends with less money do it quite as often. Talking about grown men with jobs, not kids.

Have you seen the stats on steam and how many ppl play at 1080p or higher rez ? 1 third that means 2 thirds can't even play games to the standard of the ps4, I know the pc version will look better with a high end new pc that is obvious I work in a pc repair shop , I build pcs for a living I'm just saying the console versions will be a lot better than a lot of ppls pcs. Only an idiot would think the high end pcs wouldn't be better.

Razputin3968d ago

Not true at all. Read it again and see the stats carefully. More than 2/3 combined play at 1080p higher. That means out of the millions of Steam users more than half do achieve that of what a PS4 and Xbox One can barely and even more so.

I've been doing 1080p @60hz for over 5 years now. I've upgraded my GPU twice since that time and will look into either 3x 1440p monitors and/or a 4k monitor.

It'll look better on my gtx 780ti for sure...

skoorydook3968d ago

Really. the PC is capable of better graphics ?

Quick we must tell other people, in today's other breaking news water is in fact wet

Made me laugh lol + bubble for you sir!

Bleh PhysX. They make a pretty big visual difference in Borderlands 2 as well.

Fortunately AMD owners can brute-force some acceptable performance (which isn't always the case with PhysX, not even crossfire 290s will hold up a playable framerate on Arkham Asylum).

LightofDarkness3968d ago

CPU PhysX is simply not going to get you there. If they'd simply use DirectCompute or OpenCL then all users could benefit from GPU enhanced physical simulations like these. But I suppose Nvidia's out-of-the-box implementations are quite tempting and cost them little to implement.

Volkama3968d ago (Edited 3968d ago )

What are the disagrees for? Not sure what I have said that can be opposed. I made 3 points, and they aren't really refutable.

-PhysX does make a noticable difference in borderlands 2
-PhysX can be brute forced on the CPU by AMD users in some games (like Borderlands 2)
-PhysX cannot be brute forced effectively by AMD users in some other games (like Batman AA)

This is firsthand feedback, based on an i7-3820 @ 4.4Ghz with crossfire R9 290s.

Darkwatchman3968d ago

no one saw that coming, especially not after they said the pc version would have 4k support

pc vs next gen console metro redux, do we really need a brain to confirm this right?! Stupid

moriarty18891066d ago

So many games get screwed up due to bad patches or updates. Gearbox needs to fix this asap.

raiden_1881066d ago

Don't they test the patches before releasing them?

neutralgamer19921066d ago

No anymore when we the gamers act as free testers

MizHDTV1066d ago

Could never play 3 online because it would always freeze and restart my system
Deleted it soon after I got it
Wasn’t happy

VanHalen1064d ago

I really have had enough of patches and updates. Stop releasing unfinished and broken games already! Keep finding myself playing Dreamcast and Super Nintendo lately. No damn updates loading nonsense etc.
