Tony from Twinfinite writes: There’s something to be said of a game that combines multiple gameplay styles into one package. Heroes of a Broken Land is a strategy/RPG hybrid that plays like a mix of Wizardy and Might and Magic.

Well, I did not see this coming. With visuals and sound that feel like a throwback to a much older era of play, Heroes of a Broken Land surprised me by mixing and matching several styles into an all-new gaming experience. Visually it reminds of the old Heroes of Might and Magic turn-based games, with a hex-based overworld grid and incredibly simple graphics. Like kicking off a game of Civilization, you can pick the size of the world you want to create, which is then procedurally generated, like everything else. What follows are a dungeon crawling experience, played out on a turn-based hex map in between caverns, with a bit of city management thrown in for good measure. It is ambitious, and it works.
It's not easy making video games, especially when you're a team of one. It also doesn't help if your ambitions are as far-reaching as those in Heroes of a Broken land. You see, Andrew Ellem -- creator of Winged Pixel, developer of Heroes of a Broken Land, designer of graphics, and lover of the finer things in life -- wasn't satisfied with sticking to a single genre. "Nope, that's for the weak," he probably said as he typed up another line of code, taking a sip from his flask. Instead, Andrew opted to meld his various ideas into a single experience, and allow players the freedom of a classic turn-based RPG, dungeon crawler and town management simulator without compromising an ounce of quality.
GG3 picks up on the release of a rather ambitious indie title. Heroes of a Broken Land mixes some 4X elements of big strategy games with procedurally generated dungeon crawling with parties to level, loot to collect and much more. There's a very generous demo as well.
