Titanfall Ripped Off Idea From Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare

We got a chance to view Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer reveal trailer a few hours ago and though a lot of gamers have reacted negatively to the uncanny resemblance between the trailer and Xbox One's exclusive Titanfall, what you may not know is that Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare was actually in development two years before Titanfall.

alvinmiller923545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

YES! Been telling my friend that it was Titanfall that ripped off COD and not the other way round.

dafegamer3545d ago

lol wut? You should provide some facts bro

BattleAxe3545d ago Show
ABizzel13545d ago

Pure Speculation; however, it makes sense as to why they wanted to get the game out before Call of Duty, and why they chose to go with Source Engine (something rather simple for many veteran and rookie devs) instead of something like Frostbite Engine or even Unreal Engine.

But still pure speculation, but juicy gaming gossip.

dafegamer3545d ago

@battleaxe if you want to be taken seriously, you should come with something better than "cool story bro"

Double Toasted3545d ago

People still want to linger in this paradox. Believe me...egg or chicken?

donthate3545d ago

So nobody else can come up with the same idea?

I don't think "ripping off" is the correct term to use either way of who took the inspiration from who.

What I do know, is that Respawn was the guys that made CoD what it is today and that the other versions of CoD did not measure up, and the recent releases has been really stale that I swore off buying CoD. I am interrested in CoD:AW though.

However, part of what makes Titanfall awesome isn't just double jumping, but also the parkour, the titans, AI and the world.

Lots of those elements aren't in Advance Warfare and thus would make the game dynamic quite different. I am looking forward to the next CoD!

bouzebbal3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

people arguing about bang bang games releasing every year is funny.
you guys complain about the controls if they are different, it's the same people who push developers to never renew their ideas.
you aren't happy for this one wait a year another sequel is coming out or start playing something else.

donthate3545d ago

Alright, since people disagree with me, more than they agree at time of this writing.

"CoD:Advanced Warefare ripped off Super Mario Bros!"

Abizzle Dice can't even get frostbite to work and they made it.

ShinMaster3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

Nothing in Titanfall is an original idea.

Except for brain-dead AI bots.

lol why wait for negative press? why not say it when you first saw titan fall. lol hilarious. first come first served. you late. this story wont change how people feel about your game. just makes you look sour. you had plenty of time to be unique. you chose to do the same thing. who fault is that? all you did to the game was add jump boost and sliding to cod. sorry activision, gamers aren't blind. maybe next year.

what is it they took from you? did you actually think everyone was gone jump back on the train? you didnt have a problem before today. smh this is the game industry. and you guys here aren't helping. cod just through in the towel for me.

Cuzzo633545d ago

Sooooo. Wats gonna stop it from selling millions? NOTHING...

Magicite3545d ago

By the time COD will come out, NOBODY gonna care about Titanfail..

beerzombie3545d ago

full lobby's and still very fun

dazzaboi3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

Has anybody cared about that since 1st week i know i wasted my money on it

Jonny5isalive3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

It would seem that ps fans want to believe that. Titanfall has probably been in development since they left Activision, were talking 2010 here buddy. If you honestly think this COD game has been in development that long besides maybe working on their new modified quake 3 engine, then you will believe anything.

either way, it doesnt matter because titanfall came out way before this game and adding that jumping into cod after they saw titanfall seems like a more likely and easy thing to do. Seems like the people who made titanfall knew it would have high double jumping and wall running long before it was in development. I wouldnt be surprised if they proposed this idea before being fired too, they were trying to make something that wasnt MW, maybe COD with robots. Either way, im guessing respawn knew their game would have robots and double jumping when this game was not even a thought.

ShinMaster3545d ago

Nothing in Titanfall is an original idea. It sure feels kinda like COD while on foot. The mech thing has been done several times before. There are games whre you can jump in and out of mechs as well, such as Starhawk on the PS3.

The only original idea I can think of is the brain-dead AI bots.

BISHOP-BRASIL3545d ago

@Shin

Starhawk had mechas but it looked and felt way different than what TitanFall does. You wanna see where TitanFall got its ideas, look no further than Battlefield 2142. On a normal match you would only have a few mechas for each team, but there were custom/mod servers with plenty too, as well as some mecha only servers... And this was being done in 2006, 64 players (no bot shenanigans) none the less. Even the name, "Titan Fall", may sound very familiar to 2142 players (Titan mode)...

Funantic13545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

Titanfall ripped off Advanced Warfare but manage to come out 9 months before the new COD will? Hilarious. Plus we all saw trailers of Titanfall way earlier in 1013 when the game was almost done since it was "so overhyped".

DeadlyOreo3545d ago

Ah the year of 1013. Back in the good gaming days.

poor_cus_of_games3545d ago

I remember 1013 like it was only yesterday. Good times.

Pain703545d ago

I was hoping 1013 was the year for Duke Nukem. It wasnt. Still waiting for a great return. But I did get to see Sweyn Forkbeard of Norway proclaimed King of all England in London. That guy could throw a party!

Immorals3545d ago

Ah yes, 1013,the good old days, before those pesky French invaded

ThatOneGuyThere3545d ago

Yeah its amazing how fast Titan Fall put together that nice story-driven campaign mode with all of those expensive cutscenes and actors. That usually takes game studios years! You have to give Respawn credit for not just rushing out some hokey campaign mode thats basically the same as multiplayer with extra splash screens like a game from the 80s. Also, that super intelligent AI thats really a challenge for players. That would have taken any other studio a really long time.

AndrewLB3545d ago

Considering the fact that titanfall has been out for almost 6 months and had been shown to the public a year ago... any logical person would come to the conclusion that this upcoming COD game clearly ripped off titanfall. not the other way around.

JeffGUNZ3545d ago

Plus Titanfall was in development for about 4 years when the studio first formed after MW2 release, Sledgehammer wasn't even a part of the COD Team at that time haha. Where do people come up with this nonsense?

hiredhelp3545d ago

Hmmm rip off from COD well firstly founded by the original devs not all granted but key devs that started from pc WW series to the epic COD4 . Yes they will implament features theyve been using for years but also NEW features ideas from other devs.
Lets see what made titanfall soo differnt well not too much but ive yet to see

TITANS yessss you know them Mechs looks at reveal multiplayer mmmm nope no titans
Cant see anyone hitching a ride on a mech eaither or high jacking or taking out a mech.

Wall running. Looks at Trailer.... Hmmm nope no wall running jet packs sure but no wall running from wall to wall or building to building.

user56695103545d ago

This is what I have been saying for the longest. They are the main people that created cod. They left because they got tired of Activision s##t. It like saying destiny is copying off halo when most of the devs that created halo are working on destiny. I guess we should say this about that no. 9 game and that it's a rip off of megaman

IrishSt0ner3545d ago

Yea of course a game comes out 6 months before another game it copies, that makes complete sense. Titanfall uses 'double jump' much differently than COD (i.e. you can double jump an infinte amount of times due to free running).

I'll also point out Shadowrun, a game that came out 7 years ago used double jump, by authors logic then COD and Titanfall are ripping off Shadowruns idea. Still think it's a 'rip off'?

GothamReturns3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

No! by his logic this is the real COD! Titanfall is a ripoff of Advance Warfare! I think thats what he meant.......

JeffGUNZ3545d ago

Titanfall has been in development within the first year after MW2 release. That was a long time ago. Titanfall had the jetpacks for a long time.

MysticStrummer3545d ago

Neither one is very original, so who cares who ripped off who?

3545d ago
Eejanaika3545d ago

who cares about cod anymore anyways.

Game of the year. Guess it would only be problem if you've already played Titanfall.

EdnaJones973545d ago

No way this is game of the year, not when Destiny is coming out soon and from the looks of it a million times better than this.

AndrewLB3545d ago

Destiny may be eligible for game of the week. But that's about it.

thezeldadoth3545d ago

no way is destiny gonna be GOTY, my favorite upcoming game is gonna be game of the year!

MysticStrummer3545d ago

The sports team from my area is superior to the sports team from your area.

GOTY No freaking way. I would rather vote for Doki Doki Universe

BiggerBoss3545d ago

Honestly, Call of Duty has about 0.000765% chance of being GOTY. Let's be realistic

danniellelewis3545d ago (Edited 3545d ago )

The similarities to Titanfall was my obvious stickler from todays traile rand guess now i know why SMH.

charliewong9803545d ago

Could Sledgehammer games make some sort of formal complaint or lawsuit for the Titanfall ripping off? I would be furious if I was a developer and saw Titanfall two years into working on my game.

lisamorgan43545d ago

Who would they complain too? My concern is how the investors must be feeling after seeing the level of dislike the game has gotten so far online for the striking similarities.

ArronNelson3545d ago

This does look a lot better than Titanfall as far as graphics is concerned, have to wait to gameplay to decide the better of the two.

Torgul3545d ago

Yeah, graphics looks better but not the gameplay, moving does not feel smooth IMO.
Will see, I hope I could give it a try.

DeadlyOreo3545d ago

You're right. The gameplay looks extremely fluent and very fun, with a hell of a lot more customizing (weapons, abilities, perks) than Titanfall. Have a look on Youtube, there's a lot of gameplay videos on there.

That is a shame. AW is my favourite CoD. I hope they do a sequel one day.

LordoftheCritics384d ago

Thoroughly enjoyed AW.

Good campaign and everything.

LOGICWINS383d ago

Same. Fantastic campaign, but I wasn't crazy about the jetpacks in multiplayer.

RaidenBlack384d ago

I still prefer CoD based on historical settings or in near future settings(like CoD: Ghost) ... even though I liked infinite Warfare's campaign ... it was top notch

CobraKai384d ago

I felt it was a good time to revisit WW2

porkChop384d ago

I actually really enjoyed WWII. I never understood the hate it got.

JEECE383d ago

A lot of people who never played a shooter prior to like 2012 get really mad about anything that isn't a modern combat game.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare remains the series' lone bright spot this gen

GR: "If one series truly defined the seventh generation of consoles it was Call of Duty. Sadly, the series has struggled to reach the same heights on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and only Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare feels like the previous era of innovation and top-notch storytelling."

I quite enjoyed it but I think black ops 3 was the high point.

Modern warfare could be if a few tweaks are made and the new maps are good.

Baza1633d ago (Edited 1633d ago )

Story wise.. black opps 3 was all over the place. Modern Warfare story is so much more cohesive and actually makes sense.

Immorals1633d ago

Black ops 3 was terrible. The story was absolutely atrocious.

Knushwood Butt1632d ago

I quit that campaign after about an hour. All I remember is some crappy robot drone combat R2D2 thing that you had to use. I didn't make it past that.

Epicor1632d ago

For me the Black Ops installations have always been the high peaks in terms of PVP mode. Black ops 3 campaign was pretty bad though. Advanced Warfare's campaign was pretty good, one of the best ones - but PVP was bad!

gamer91633d ago

LOL Advanced Warfare, too funny

1633d ago
Kabaneri1633d ago

The campaign was OK, but the guns sounded like cap guns and the multiplayer maps were not memorable at all.
