During the previous generation of consoles, KC used to say that the PS3 and Xbox 360 were far more similar than different, so arguing which system was best was like arguing what brand of glue tastes better. You might come to some consensus, but the argument was a losing battle and stupid to begin with. The Xbox 360 had party chat and better servers, while the PS3 had slightly better graphics and a Blu-ray player, but both systems shared a majority of games. With that said, this current generation is even more identical than the previous one.

even with the XB1 copying a few of the PlayStation 4's software features, the console clearly holds a hardware advantage over the system both in the controller and the actual unit. beyond this and the that hill gets steeper for the XB1system.

Article is right both systems use 7000 series GPU's and the number of shaders on each GPU is close enough you really wont see too much difference in performance gains with console level optimizations. Which to describe console level optimizations in terms or what kind of power that means is equivalent to 2 7000 series gpus in crossfire about 50%. Hence before dev kits for either console they had pc kits that had crossfired gpus in them to simulate the console level optimization.

This is why PC gamers are excited for the future of Direct X as if MS can get PC gamers as much as half of that in optimizations it will increase the lifespan many will get from newer graphics cards for at least another year before needing to upgrade again.

But the fact both can do 1080p really gives neither the advantage but exclusives and extras other then gaming will be good selling points to the casual gamers.

Im not trying to sound like a PC elitist but if both consoles had 8000 series gpus or even a r7 then maybe then the discussions would be relevant. But they are taking 7000 series GPU's and getting the performance of 8000 series and borderline r7 performance.

So the Xbox One is not worth $400? PS4 has a "Slightly" beefier GPU and that's it. Please don't say anything about GDDR5 since the APU can't even support a Memory Bandwidth past 85gb/sec for a read write cycle, so it has a very slight advantage over X1's 68gb/sec. X1 has a Faster CPU and Faster GPU (Still less powerful I know). Also the X1 has Cloud Computing Hardware like 4 move engines and ESRAM that could in the future be a leg to stand on vs Sony. HDMI In and Out is also more expensive than just "Out" Larger Fan and Heat Sink make it perform higher temps than PS4, also cost money. Ok you get it, The Xbox One is def worth $400 and $500 with Kinect. I have Both now (just got a PS4) and as much as I like both of them, they are pretty well comparable. PS4 has better Resolutions and steadier framerates and Xbox One Has a faster UI and I can have 4 apps and 1 game running at once or 2 on the screen at the same time. You Sony fans need to stop acting like the PS4 is some super computer, it's not, it can preform better graphics in-house and that's about it. X1 some things better than PS4, if you have both, you know.

I have PS4 and Xbox One since launch. I don't think you have both systems because if you did, you would redact that "faster UI" statement. It takes 5 seconds from the moment I hit the Home button to access anything on my X1 system whereas my PS4 is immediate.
I also played cod Ghosts and Destiny beta on BOTH my systems. Yes, there is an obvious difference in visuals.
I enjoy my Xbox One but my PS4 is my true gaming system. I look forward to Halo MCC and Advanced Warfare for X1. But I'm politely disagreeing with your previous post. The proof is obvious when you have both systems.

Which is one of the reasons the xbone consistently lags behind the PS4 in game performance. All of that bloat and overhead of the OS and multitasking takes CPU cycles away from games. Having things running at the same time or having them in memory is not free.

To me I would rather have more resources available to the games so they can look and run as good as possible but then again I am not ADHD, have the attention span of a gnat, and have to be doing 12 things at once.

The PS4 is more capable but not by much regardless of what fanboys will say on this site. I have both system's and can honestly say that the xbox does not have better sequels. Dead rising is nothing new with terrible graphics and textures. Ryse is very shallow and extremely linear with nearly no background interaction, kinda like look but don't touch lol. Don't even get me started on the over hyped titanfall. Also has graphics worse than cod ghosts and gets very boring very quickly.

Better exclusives is debatable. Sony fans prefer the games on Playstation. I would say though Microsoft has a better offering of AAA games than Sony.

Microsoft had a better online experience with 360. Sony was never going to catch up with the PS4. Its a laughable Sony fans think the PSN network can be better overnight when x box live was superior for years and still is getting better all the time. I guess they don't notice as much the problems due to third party developers offering dedicated servers. Sony still doesn't offer dedicated servers for their first party titles though. So xb1 wins.

Better controller. xb1 controller is better than the 360. I used the PS3 controller it wasn't as good as 360 one. Can't comment on the PS4 controller i haven't used it.

Microsoft has a better offering? It's three biggest games are Ryse, Dead Rising 3, and Forza. Ryse has received universally mediocre reviews, as has Dead Rising. Forza was well-received, however.

Let's compare that to the PS4. You've got Killzone: Shadow Fall, InFamous, and the Last of Us Remastered. Killzone was mediocre, InFamous was well-received, and like the original TLOU: Remastered is regarded as a masterpiece.

How about upcoming titles?

We've got Sunset Overdrive, The Master Chief Collection, and Forza Horizon 2 coming up.

On the PS4 front, we've got DriveClub and LittleBigPlanet 3. The X1 has a slight advantage on upcoming titles in 2014.

How about what's coming next year?

The X1 has Quantum Break, Halo 5, and Scalebound.

The PS4 has The Order, Bloodborne, and Uncharted 4.

Ultimately, both consoles have comparable AAA lineups.

We now know why the PS4 was getting better resolutions at launch. Dev's were using SDK'S, that only allowed access to 90 per cent of the xb1 GPU. Devs had full access to 100 per cent of the PS4 GPU power. Sony fans were fooled into thinking the PS4 was a beast of a console and resolution was prove their console was superior.

Wolfenstein, Sniper elite never used the new SDK and those games ended up being 1080p on xb1

Destiny will be will be 1080p with the new SDK.

Two reasons why i believe the xb1 is superior to the PS4

xb1 device reportedly runs three operating systems: Xbox OS, an OS based on the Windows kernel, and another OS that allows the other two operating systems to communicate by virtualisation (as a hypervisor). This integration allows features like snapped Skype calls while in game.

Having a separate OS's allows Microsoft to update the console with ease. Sony takes an age to do something similar. Microsoft can correct errors if they happen on the fly and not break something. Sony can't do this as they only have 1 OS running. Microsoft will always be updating their console faster than Sony. That's next gen.

Second reason. Microsoft have already announced crackdown will be using the cloud for game physics (destruction) if they pull it off. The xb1 is suddenly a more powerful machine because they are doing things with the xb1 never seen before. The GPU no longer has to process the destruction therefore the GPU in the xb1 can do other things (improving lighting, graphics, textures)

Wolfenstein has dynamic resolution on Xbone and PS4, while Xbone version are more often in sub1080p.

Destiny will be 1080p. But Bungie achieved this with help from MS engineers. So, PS4 > Xbone SDK + MS engineers

It's all about the games. I changed my Wii U for an Xbox One, and before I even opened it, I realized there wasn't one game from Xbox that I wanted. So FOR ME, it was useless to have an Xbox. Next day I exchanged it for a PS4.

If you like Xbox exclusives (third parties doesn't matter because you can still play them anyways) then it won't matter which resolution they are, or if multiples run better on the PS4. Mostly, because you don't have the other console. If you have both, then you'll buy miltiplats on the console of your choice, and that's it.

I don't understand the console wars, because it doesn't matter. If I want to play Sunset Overdrive, I NEED an Xbox (granted it doesn't come out on PC), so even if it runs at 480i at 20fps, it's not like I'd be able to play it on the PS4! I could rant about how Insomniac could have done the game for the PS4 and it could be much better, but it is not, so the resolution, the fps, the controller, any of it matters. That's the console the game is in, and so that's it.

It comes down to preference however I think one is overstated and the other understated well technically other two because the Wii U is a fantastic little machine that is just pushed to the side by most people.

Some people like Forza Horizon and it's focus on the love of cars and driving them in an open world that can satisfy both the casual and more advanced racers while others want the supposedly prettier and new approach Driveclub is taking.

Some people want the creative aspect of LBP while others want the fun crazy co-op/open world attempt that is Sunset Overdrive.

Some want Halo MCC more than a prettier TLOU.

Some simply like games like Uncharted and GoW more than Gears and Halo.

While others like to pretend hardware specs and resolution defines how good a console is, or are simply blinded by hatred and branding.

Then there are the cool folks who don't want to choose one exclusive lineup and buy all the systems.

I plan to enjoy what both consoles offers, although right now I am favoring the Xbox One. They are close enough as my tastes go, & I prefer the One's controller & UI, so it will be the PS4 for it's exclusives, & the One for the multiplat if there is little difference in comparison to the PS4 version, & it's exclusives. The One is obviously not selling like the PS4 but it is ahead of where the 360 was so it is doing okay, & MS has deep pockets & has changed damn near everything around to get the console on close footing as the PS4. As far as power goes, this argument is interesting since we have always had power differences when it came to the consoles, its's the games that ultimate sell console not the spec sheet.

Lets not forget the Bone has the benefit of exotic euro resolutions like 792p and possibly 882p in the new COD. It also has a nice amount of 720p games. So yeah XB1 has the bragging rights for lower resolutions. PS4 almost always hits 1080p with the exception of Watchdogs and BF4 - both are 900p. So there you have it : 'Euro'rez versus Native 1080p - pick your poison gamers.

I think it's obvious that they're basically the same console but the general perception (evidenced by sales) is that one is a bit better than the other. Be it power, exclusives, controller, services, design, price, etc. or any combination thereof, people are voting with their dollars that one console is better than the other one.
