'Assassin's Creed Unity': A return to 100% land based gameplay, it's about time - Examiner

Assassin’s Creed Unity will be bringing the franchise into a new era of seamlessness, immersion and gameplay. From everything we’ve seen thus far from Assassin’s Creed Unity, things are looking promising for both single and co-op players.

It's a breath of fresh air to see the game set in an urban environment again. That is where the series belongs. Oh and did we mention this game looks unbelievably good?

Thanks the lord, I wasn't a fan of the boating. It just got old quick.

legionsoup3982d ago

Really? I kind of enjoyed the open sea in the last game. Just kind of relaxing and sailing around the map, discovering treasure, and so on.

I know it's not for everyone, but as someone who has played and beat all of the Assassin's Creeds (even the Vita version!), I enjoyed the change of pace.

I DO agree that it was out of place in 3.

Anon19743982d ago

Yeah, I completely disagree. Black Flag was a fantastic title that finally brought me back to the series and it was 100% because of the boating. Loved that exploration aspect. Sad to see it go.

JsonHenry3982d ago

Black Flag was the only one in the series I played to the end. (I read the back story on the others so I knew what was going on) And it was mostly because being a pirate was so much fun. All the other games I was pretty much bored with after 3-4 hours and never finished them.

guyman3982d ago

I thought the sailing was good and all, it just didn't belong in assassin's creed. A spin off would be great though. I hope unity goes back to the ac 1 and 2 roots, those 2 were the best in the series in my opinion.

Anon19743982d ago

Yeah, I enjoyed 1 and 2 and played to the end. Finished Brotherhood. Skipped Revelations and 3 and came back for 4 and haven't finished it yet. Sailing around, exploring and engaging in the naval action is just too much fun and for the first time I don't feel like exploring the map has become tedious. I respect your opinion and certainly liked 1 & 2 as well, but Black Flag has been my personal favorite for the series so far. These past couple of months (my game time is pretty limited) it's all I play when I'm not gaming with my son.

I'll miss the naval battles, but if it doesn't fit the time or place, I'm glad it won't be in the game.

The only Assassins Creed game I've played was brotherhood. Will getting this one leave me not understanding the story?

Shake_Zula3982d ago

Yeah bro... Or at least more than likely. Assassin's Creed is heavily story-based. You could maybe watch a playthrough online via youtube or something. The games are actually quite episodic in nature.

legionsoup3982d ago

If you played Brotherhood, then you know there are 2 stories going on in each Assassin's Creed game. The one you are playing in the "main" game, and the one you play when you are outside of the Animus.

Honestly, I think you'll be okay, unless the "outside of the Animus" story is really that important to you.

youndamie3982d ago

Thanks guys, I'm not even going to bother with the series then. Don't have enough time to catch up on all the games.

mr2333982d ago

I wasn't a big fan of the Sea parts in AC3, but it was well done in AC4, it's hard to say which was better, the land or the sea in 4. I guess it's not for everybody though.

endzeitkind3982d ago

what is about time? return to landbase? maaan, these headers beats me.

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Shaz from GL writes: "Assassin’s Creed Unity is looked at as one of the worst in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. But playing it nearly 10 years later reveals it may just be the best"

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis938d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde938d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils938d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia939d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack938d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain938d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

staticall938d ago

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

anast938d ago

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
