Assassin’s Creed: Unity’: Could Ubisoft Be Making It All Digital And Ditching The Disc?

Assassin’s Creed: Unity could be going all digital if Ubisoft’s latest comments are an indication. The same goes for all future titles from one of the biggest game developers of our time. Back when Microsoft announced the DRM policy and the “always on” internet requirement, Ubisoft was the game publisher who said it was a good idea.

This is probably the reason you need a Uplay account to access their latest games’ fullest potential. Ubisoft is embracing the idea of keeping their games out of the used game bins, and there is no better way to do so than to assign an account to every copy they sell. It seems they may be abandoning the physical disc format entirely as well.

Bullshit. Nowhere in that article is there any proof Ubisoft are going digital only for unity. All conjecture.

alexkoepp3996d ago

Damn, thread looks full of people resistant to change and clinging to old ways of doing things.

its time to move on, and embrace the future

I'm already living almost completely digital entertainment, and it is so much better than the old ways

Geekman3996d ago (Edited 3996d ago )

So because you "moved on" you selfishly expect the rest of the gaming industry to do so.

Stop. Gamestops and other stores will lose business. Jobs will be lost.

I'm tired of the selfishness in the gaming industry nowadays. Current gen console owners demand developers drop support for 160 million last gen consoles. 3DS owners, who git 3 YEARS of triple AAA support demand that GBA games be on the 3DS over a console lacking games and VC support. Not everybody is inclined to feel as you feel just because you feel that way.

Hroach6163996d ago

Do you really think they would go all digital? They would lose out on prob more then half of sales. Seeing as how there is not that many current gen systems out there, that's a huge loss for them.

Also why is going digital considered better then having retail copies? I see more negatives then positives.

Positives: Save some space, don't have to change discs.

Negatives: Jobs lost, more then just gamestop(Think of the people at the plants that make the physical copies) can't trade in games, HDD gets full fast, don't have to wait to download, can lend games out to friends, etc etc.

I have download speeds more then enough to go digital, but I prefure not to unless I can't find a physical copy. Plus I like collecting games. They all sit on my shelf looking pretty.

Don't assume one way is better then another. It's all preference. What works for you doesn't work for some. And vice versa for me.

Revengeance3996d ago

I'm guessing you were one of the people who supported the DRM BS M$ tried to pull too.

No one wants your digital future where nothing is in the control of the consumer.

Enjoy owning nothing.

ziggurcat3996d ago

i'm not sure how owning a physical copy that you can do whatever you'd like to do with after you've finished playing the game - whether it be trading it in, lending it out/selling to a friend - is worse than a digital copy.

there are certainly some advantages to owning digital, but sometimes convenience isn't enough of an advantage when you can't do anything with your copy of the game afterwards (apart from delete it from your HDD).

N4G is full of articles like this. Sensational titles with no substance to back up the claims.

If Ubisoft were going all digital I highly doubt they would release a $200 AUD collectors edition, which includes a copy of the game (as per the official list of included items).

Or the fact that all retailers have listed multiple versions of Unity, all with hard copies of the game, including the base version of the game, which is just the disc and box.

MartinB1053996d ago

Nope. Amazon already have it available for pre-order.

Relientk773996d ago

They better not, I want my physical copies.

KonsoruMasuta3996d ago (Edited 3996d ago )

They won't. Ubisoft would never be that stupid!

....but I have been wrong before though. I said the same thing about Microsoft when the DRM rumors started.

Let us just hope that no company would be stupid enough to pull a move like this.

Sy_Wolf3996d ago

Of course they aren't, don't be stupid.

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Shaz from GL writes: "Assassin’s Creed Unity is looked at as one of the worst in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. But playing it nearly 10 years later reveals it may just be the best"

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis938d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde938d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils938d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia939d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack938d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain938d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

staticall938d ago

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

anast938d ago

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
