Halo: TMCC In Development Prior to Halo 4, Halo 2 MP is “Post-Patch,” More Questions Answered

MP1st - Following up on the studio’s momentous E3 2014 announcement that unveiled the heavily rumored Halo: The Master Chief Collection to the world, 343 Industries has rounded up a ton of your burning questions and is shedding some more light on the package arriving this Fall, November 11, on Xbox One.

Well 343 you have earned my trust again :D just as long as Halo 5 is not ANYTHING like 4 then we golden!

Nolando4020d ago

I Don't see why anyone would expect a drastic change. Halo 4 was just a continuation of what Bungie was doing in Halo: Reach.

Also What did you not like about Halo 4 that turned you off of it?

Farmassy4020d ago

some people did not like the multiplayer (which I was actually a fan of)... most people consider the single player to be really good though

Halo 5 seems to be getting rid of what people didn't like about halo 4. For example, armor abilities are gone. I hope they advance the gameplay while staying true to what makes halo great. This will be hard to do but I think they are capable

mhunterjr4020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

People expect a drastic change, because halo4's MP wasn't found to be very fulfilling. 343, like Bungie before them, analyzes a ton of game data... It probably didn't take them long to see that Halo4's MP was not being well received when compared to its predecessors.

They've already confirmed that feedback has lead then towards a return to the competitive, skill based, arena style gameplay.

I really did not like halo4's weapon unlocking system. Your're right it started before halo4, but 4 took it to new lows. Previously, halo was all about a level playing field. Then they made it so that certain starting weapons needed to be unlocked. Also, there was no longer any need to learn weapon spawn points, because there was little incentive to ditch your starting load out.

Another artifact of the weapons system is that people were more focused on unlocking things than they were winning. Previous titles placed helpig your team win above all else. Halo 4 rewarded selfishness... All any one cared about was earning XP.

Instant respawning made self-preservation less of a priority. It also destroyed the element of map control that was made possible by the Respawn penalties associated with death, suicide, and betrayals. It's inclusion effectively destroyed strategy.

Nolando4020d ago

From the CG trailer it looked like Armor Abilities will still be in the game. I thought I saw one of the Spartans fall out of the air and do a ground smash.

we will see though I enjoyed all the Halos so im excited.

LAWSON724020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

Halo 5 will not have armor abilities and custom loadouts. They have also stated they are returning to the arena style roots of prior Halo games.

Also this idea that Halo Reach was trying to take Halo in a new direction is just stupid. It is a spin off title that allowed Bungie to experiment and try new things.

Nolando4020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

@hunter

I agree with your points. I just hope they don't get rid of armor abilities entirely but I do think they can bring back the original style of halo MP while keeping it new and fresh.

Hopefully it all works out for Halo 5

@when did they confirm no AA? I don't mind no Custom loadouts because halo was better before you started with weapons you wanted lol. But the AA I thought were a good new mix into gameplay.

LAWSON724020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

Who ever is disagreeing with me is in denial.

Because the fact is Frank O'Connor confirmed no armor abilities. However this was posted aswell from a dev, "Arena means what you'd expect - competitive focus, level playing field, map control. Spartan abilities are player mechanics not loadout AAs."

So perhaps this means there are small abilities that every Spartan has for example Sprint. Just speculation, just know disagrees can hit the button all they want fact is they are not in the game.

Farmassy4020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

@chubbylover

They confirmed NO armor abilities via twitter. In their E3 presentation it said, "new abilities" and someone asked if they meant armor abilities. It turns out that they are not having armor abilities but will have other new player mechanics... they gave examples of past player mechanics as dual wielding and hijacking vehicles.

So basically no more armor abilities but there will still be some cool new possibilities to move gameplay forward. If you ask me this is good news. Armor abilities were kind of a gimmick and needed to be phased out.

Here is a link confirming no armor abilities: http://teambeyond.net/halo-...

@Lawson
haha... calm down. you got one disagree

Nolando4020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

@Lawson & farmassy

Lawson, please calm down sheesh. Just looked at the link so AA as we know it will be taken out but it does sound like from the interview we will still get some sort of special abilities in the game (ALA power ups like halo 1? pick up powers on the map?) And I cant wait to see what gameplay mechanics they introduce since he mentioned something on par with how Halo 2 introduced hijacking and dual wielding in the game.

either way As long as it remains the same awesome halo gameplay underneath im excited to see what they add. I enjoyed Halo 4 but the hoping Halo 5s multiplayer is even better.

TheBurger294020d ago

the multiplayer was it, sp was boss.

Can I suggest BG3 as a 6th? It’s helping me pass the time quite well.

anast679d ago

I'm still trying to finish WotR.

DivineHand125679d ago

With the release date being just a little over a week away, it may not be a good idea to burn yourself out on mech games until then.

RavenWolfx679d ago

i want a Chromehounds sequel so bad...

raWfodog679d ago (Edited 679d ago )

Surprised that the article didn’t mention Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries if we’re talking about mech-related games.

ZeekQuattro678d ago

It was an odd article imo. Like why are games that feature a handful of mech themed levels in there. When I think of mech games I don't think Halo and Wolfenstein no matter how fun those levels were.

These are some of the best and most popular video game franchises now owned by Xbox Game Studios and Microsoft.

Microsoft was involved with Halo, Gears, Forza, Ori, Flight Simulator and Fable from early development, I will give them credit for those franchises. Fallout, Elder Scrolls and Doom were established franchise before being acquired by MS.

Crows90687d ago (Edited 687d ago )

Exactly. They had nothing to do with their most popular franchises now.

Their old franchises are dwindling and pretty much non-existent.

They've had perfect dark in the chamber this whole time and haven't done squat...that tells you the kind of company they are. Fable is another franchise that's been destroyed and ignored...let's see how the new game turns out.

Profchaos686d ago

Yeah perfect dark, banjo conquer ms seems to kill more franchises then they like to admit while pretending to care about others like hexen

Sitdown687d ago

Given the article specifically says "now owned", what made you feel the need to do a break down?

thesoftware730686d ago

Sit-down,

Because it's N4G and any opportunity to shit on MS is never missed.

Rude-ro687d ago

Gears is not.
It was the same as mass effect:
Just contracted.

closed_account688d ago (Edited 688d ago )

Ah yes, feels like forever ago since Microsoft created Skyrim. So much so, I had actually forgotten they had created it and the other Elder Scrolls games! 🤔

*They really shaped my preteen years w the original Doom too!

ocelot07687d ago

Don't forget the original Elder Scrolls way back in 1994 or fallout in 1997.

Sitdown684d ago

So you don't understand the combination of "now owned"?

Crows90687d ago (Edited 687d ago )

I fully expect all these popular franchises to be killed off by Microsoft. Just a matter of time.

Unless they take a huge distance approach which pretty much means they don't ba e anything to do with the games being made ...in that case the franchises should be fine. But then...they shouldn't really get credit.

DOMination-687d ago

"I fully expect all these popular franchises to be killed off by Microsoft. Just a matter of time."

Based on what?? Microsoft usually gets stick for releasing too MANY games in their franchises, to the point where it's quite a long-running joke - one I'm sure you've partaken in before.

Pretty much all of their major IP has had releases in the last five years or have upcoming releases scheduled so I see no evidence whatsoever for this claim.

"Unless they take a huge distance approach which pretty much means they don't ba e anything to do with the games being made"

But.. They HAVE been very hands-off for a long time and have drawn lots of criticism for it?

fr0sty687d ago

See: All of Rare's games

DOMination-686d ago

I really wouldn't say that MS have let Rare franchises die. They've just had the freedom to create new IP in Sea of Thieves and Everwild. MS are currently developing a Perfect Dark game, licensed Killer Instinct out, Rare themselves released several compilations and several Banjo games as well as PDZ in the past.

I'm not sure what else you could want. They can only make one game at a time. You can't say MS let all their franchises die but also be annoyed that they allow their studios to make new IP.

Profchaos686d ago

If that's the case where my banjo or conquer sequel why didn't I get sunset overdrive 2 oh yeah not enough bro in those games

ChasterMies687d ago (Edited 687d ago )

EA is a good example of what can happen to a franchise when a larger corporation buys up studios from a smaller corporation. Quarterly earnings should never matter more than quality.

wiz7191687d ago

@Crows that is the case , Zenimax is operating independently of MS and have full creative freedom to do what they want. Zenimax games aren’t being published under XGS ,

ravens52687d ago

Soon Microsoft will be known for making Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Candy Crush, Call of Duty etc. Lmao they know what they're doing. Especially with the archiving issue the gaming industry has.

closed_account687d ago (Edited 687d ago )

Microsoft built the game industry. Microsoft invented games. Didn't you know? ;)

**What a bizzaro world we live in where the losers can become the winners overnight.

Hypertension140687d ago

@ravens52

What are those franchises you're talking about?
Activision/Blizzard only makes Call of Duty and Bethesda has Elder Scrolls and Starfield only, stop making it seen that is much more anti competitive/consumer than it actually is.......

Profchaos686d ago

Zero creative vision and the ability to bankroll it by purchasing everything that everyone else had success with even Halo wasn't technically theirs Bungie had to sell it to them to become independent

Atari6052B687d ago

You mean any studio Microsoft could acquire to flog last gen games on game pass ... What happened to HD-DVD that Microsoft pushed so hard ...

Games with the dumbest NPCs

How did redfall not make the cut.

anast688d ago (Edited 688d ago )

Every Bethesda game and Every Halo game. This list needed to have Cyberpunk somewhere.
